Ok i have decided to make my friend as a present for the birth of her baby girl in about 5 weeks a basket full of essentials & things, so far i have...

  1. Washable breast pads.
  2. nipple cream
  3. muslins
  4. 2 rompers
  5. Little hat
  6. Dress set from Next
  7. Some vests.

What else should i add? i am going to add a little pink teddy but need some more essential things....??

Nice bath stuff for Mum and baby?

bristols · 08/02/2007 20:52

A towel with a hood. Sooo useful. Also, if budget allows, a gro bag/sleeping bag. They're brilliant. Try to get one with a tog rating if you can. 2.5 tog for winter or 1 tog for summer. Those are the first two things that spring to mind. HTH

you could get a nice blanket and lay that along the bottom of the basket??

Nimme · 08/02/2007 20:53

A tin of yummy biscuits and some home cooked meals to stick in her freezer!

bristols · 08/02/2007 20:53

I also second the bubbles (bath and drinkable) and soft cheese. I had ahuge brie waiting for me after I gave birth and I scoffed the lot. Whilst in the bath

here is a website that shows a lovely way of wrapping/presenting baby gifts - they look like bunches of flowers but ar actually socks, vests etc. I've made my own before - you just need some elastic bands or soft wire.

MrsBadger · 08/02/2007 20:56

cake!

every new mother should be given cake

much more use than more sodding booties

TravellingontheClaphamOmnibus · 08/02/2007 20:56

Hand cream - my hands were very dry from all the hand washing.

Astrophe · 08/02/2007 20:56

dur...sorry here tis

pinkchampagne · 08/02/2007 20:58

Essentials like nappies, cotton wool, nappy bags, salt for the bath to ease any soreness from stitches or tears!
Also some nice bits for your friend, like chocolates & champagne!

wurlywurly · 08/02/2007 21:08

ScoobyDooooo · 08/02/2007 21:12

Blimey my basket is going to be massive with all these suggestions

What a lovely site Astrophe will keep this in mind too

Also she failed to bf her first & really wants to try this time round, i think first time round it was lack of help/advice does anyone know of any good books or something?

No, she doesn't do kids, but she did tell me I wasn't drinking it quick enough, which was almost as good!
