Best side sleeper crib

Any ideas? Don't really know where to start....big variation in price from what I can see but no idea how that correlates to functionality / quality.

I'm think of buying a side sleeper for our bedroom and a poddle pod or similar for downstairs naps, then we have a family cot for when LO goes in his own room (will buy new mattress). Does that seem feasible or do I need a moses basket? The travel system we like has a bassinet so thought if he doesn't get on with the pod he could sleep in that downstairs too as another option?

I'm interested if anyone has any advice on this as well. Have you looked at any ones in particular?

Snuzpod

I just like the idea of not having to keep getting out of bed to see to the baby but it also being a safe distance away from me.

I went for the snuzpod - baby hasn't arrived yet so don't know how it'll work out - but it seems nice, robust, etc. The reason I picked it over the others was because the bassinet lifts out and I thought that would be useful - now that it's assembled, to be honest, I think it's too heavy to do that regularly with.

You can rent a bednest from bednest (with new mattress and fabric bits) so that makes it cheaper!

I am getting a chicco next to me and a sleepy head. Will get a cot bed for babies room.

It's going ok Vixx I felt a bit lost on the pregnancy after infertility thread so ducked out, I'm not on regularly enough to keep up! Unfortunately we lost one of the twins at 9 weeks so a singleton now- 17 weeks and going ok but the loss has made me extremely panicky and worried all the way through . Hoping to start enjoying a bit more after 20 weeks. How is your sickness.

Thanks for the advice everyone, would be great if you report back when you have your babies in terms of usability, if you have a spare second (unlikely!)

I was planning sticking the cot bed next to me and using a sleepyhead.
Have a moses basket for the living room ( not that I plan on putting baby down )

I had a Troll one as it has the smallest footprint and DD didn't grow out of it until 7 months! Best baby purchase I made

Mrs Chris, sorry to hear about your precious baby it must have been awful for you. I am glad that the second baby is doing well. When is your 20 week scan do you have it booked?
I am 25 weeks tomorrow and still as anxious as ever. I thought it would change after each scan but it doesn't. Still on sickness medication unfortunately!

20 week scan is three weeks today. Unfortunately I don't think we'll stop worrying til they're here. Then a new sort of worrying starts!

We also had the bednest. Things we liked about it were that you can freely adjust the height to exactly match the height of your bed, that we could tilt it to raise the head when my son had a cold, and that it folded flat so we could take it with us when we travelled. My son (who is tall) grew out of it by about 5 months though - from memory the snuzpod is about the same size but the chicco one is bigger.

I had Fabimax - it's bigger than most other co-sleepers, which was useful as I had giant babies who would have grown out of other models in a week or so

We have the snuzpod, it's amazing.
DD is 14 weeks and still has loads of room to wriggle about.
I also like that the colour of it matches the rest of our bedroom furniture.

My DD is currently in a bednest - it's been much better than the moses basket I had for the other 2. My mum bought it on a deal the NCT did where you could buy an ex rental (with new mattress and sheets included) for £99.

It has become too narrow before it is too short so DD is moving out this weekend but she is nearly 6 months so has lasted well. It is off to my brother next for my niece who is due next!

I also had a Fabimax - I found it mentioned on a thread on MN and decided to go for it! It's solid, natural wood; as a PP has mentioned it's also very big and has a height adjustable base. It lasted us 13 months with a 99th+ centile baby!
You can get it on the German amazon (even with delivery costs it is still quite cheap).

We have a snuzpod and it is amazing, I would recommend it to anyone.

In the morning so takes the top cot downstairs so that r can use it for daytime naps, then he brings up again when we go to bed.

It is very well made, looks great, and the base is attached to our bedframe so it feels really safe.

I'd highly recommend it.

I would reccomend a full sized cot with one side removed (easily done with an allen key), wedged up to your bed.

I don't see the point of small sized (crib or Moses) overnight sleeping place. You need the room to cuddle in there to settle baby. Plus no need to transition into a cot of they start there from birth.

If you feel an absolute need for something tiny, my recommendation would be the £30 wooden Ikea crib and hacksaw one side off.

In both these cases, adjust babys mattress height to match your bed and a rolled up towel (or pool noodle under the bottom sheet) act as a barrier to mark out seperate sleeping spaces for baby and parent.

I have a next to me with a sleepyhead. Dd is almost 5 months and still fits so I think it will last until she moves into her cot in a month or so.

Things I like: it folds up quite small so we have used it as a travel cot, you can adjust it to a wide variety of heights so it fits next to any bed we've tried it with, you can tilt one side which helps with dd's reflux, it fits the sleepyhead comfortably, it's easy to assemble.

The only thing I don't like is that the mattress is quite hard but I think that's just baby mattresses tbh.

We had a snuzpod with a sleepyhead inside. Used sleepyhead alone for daytime naps downstairs and for when we went away overnight/on holiday. Ditched the sleepyhead at 4 months but carried on using the snuzpod until 7 months when he went into his own room and a proper cot.

We had a snuzpod until a couple of months ago. I liked it a lot but ended up co-sleeping still a lot of the time still.
We bought it new but I sold it on for £120 very quickly.

Good advice from FATEdestiny too. E were going to just use the cot with one side removed but DS came very early and when we finally got to take him home from NICU he was still tiny and used to the hospital cot, so we wanted to replicate that and he just too small for a normal cot! Even in the snuzpod he looked a tiny scrap!

We use a sleepyhead but I felt the snuzpod / Chico next to me were expensive on top of the sleepyhead cost. So, I bought a Graco Petite Bassinet Travel Cot and it has been absolutely perfect. Paid around £55 for it, the sleepyhead fits in perfectly, cost effective as cheaper than the others and we also have a travel cot. The bassinet piece means that baby is at a nice height as I keep it right up against the bed. He sleeps through the night now bug when his dummy pops out at night I just sling an arm out and put it back in without getting up!

I was going to go the side off a normal cot route but we tried rearranging furniture in so many ways and it was just too big.

We went with the Chico one since it's wider than the snuzpod. Unattached it from the bed last week (Ds is 14 weeks) after Ds wiggled his way onto my bed during g the night.

We rented a bednest last time. I liked that it could be tilted and that both sides could come down. It became too narrow for DD by 4 months because she threw her arms out in her sleep. I worried about her hitting off the sides as they felt flimsy to me. I had to get them to send us new sides because the tab broke off on one, but I think they changed the design because the replacements were totally different.
This time I'm planning on getting a Next to Me. It was highly recommended by my mum friends and is apparently a lot wider than the bednest.
