Any ideas? Don't really know where to start....big variation in price from what I can see but no idea how that correlates to functionality / quality.

I'm think of buying a side sleeper for our bedroom and a poddle pod or similar for downstairs naps, then we have a family cot for when LO goes in his own room (will buy new mattress). Does that seem feasible or do I need a moses basket? The travel system we like has a bassinet so thought if he doesn't get on with the pod he could sleep in that downstairs too as another option?

I did what FATE suggests and it worked for us. Caveat: we have a big bedroom and an IKEA bed so the heights matched up. In addition to the standard cot mattress I bought a 10cm wide strip of mattress foam to wedge the two mattresses together (filling the gap made by having the side off). It worked well for us. I used a cocoonababy in there for the first few months.

With DD1 we bought a normal cot and left the side off. It was a pain though as it was so long it meant shuffling to the end of our bed to get in and out, not easy after a CS! It was also then quite a pain to dismantle the cot to add one side back on and then again to lower the mattress when she starting standing up.

Also the one we had still had a few cm of wood projecting above the baby's mattress which meant it was uncomfortable for me to sleep with one arm in the cut on the baby.

I'm now expecting DD2 and will probably get a Snuzpod. I like the idea the bassinet can be taken off for daytime naps and it looks good, plus the resale prices should be high. I find the Chicco quite ugly and gave ruled it out on that basis alone! Blush

Thanks so much for all the feedback, we have a family cot that is passed round everyone amd we definitely cannot take a hacksaw to it Grin also not enough room in our bedroom / wouldn't be able to open door to ensuite so will definitely be buying a side by side. Sounds like different people suit different products so will go look at a few in person rather than lazy Internet shopping!

I went for the Waldin bedside crib (amazon).

I've just put it together and it feels really sturdy and is a similar side to the Chicco Next to Me but a lot prettier in my opinion.

We got the snuzpod too, lovely quality. It's great to have them right there, but also to know your not going to roll on top of them. Oh just remembered holding his little hand-so cute.
