Today I've been admitted to hospital and told my baby will need to be delivered in next 24 hours due to poor growth and almost no waters. Baby is only measuring at 1lb 2oz with a less than 50% chance of survival. My husband and I are devastated and terrified. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I hope little Bea is improving a bit now and still fighting strong. A friend of mine had her most premature baby at 26 weeks and it was touch and go to start with, but he's nearly 18 months old now and doing well.

Stay strong FlowersFlowers xx

It's been a while since I passed on an update. Bea is still in the NICU on oscillation ventilation. The last couple of weeks has been extremely hard. Bea struggled with ventilation, infection, edema, low blood pressure and went into renal failure. A week ago they managed to stabilise the ventilation, so they could then work on sorting her BP out and trying to restart her kidneys. They found the oscillation was causing the low BP and the antibiotics for the infection caused her kidneys to shut down. They managed to sort her BP and her kidney function has recovered. They have tried to get her off oscillation but she isn't able to cope on conventional ventilation, which meant that the last medical treatment they could offer was steroids. They are her only hope to get off the ventilator. Without them she isn't likely to ever be able to get off oscillation. If they don't work, there is nothing else they can do. She had the first dose, we should know in 48 hours if they have worked. We are literally crossing everything and hoping with every fibre of our beings that they will work.

Sending positive thoughts xxx

My girls needed steroids to bring them off the ventilation (dexamethazone on the DART regime), like you it was the only hope for them (after a pneumothorax, oedema etc). They then had a further course later on to get them onto lo-flow oxygen to come home with.

There is an excellent support group on Facebook called NeoMatesUK comprised of parents and some nursing staff who have gone through the same thing.

I am praying for Bea - every day. I hope you can still rub her head as she loves so much. Flowers

HorridHenrietta2 · 14/11/2016 08:10

I am praying for your little girl, the hardest thing in the world for you to go through. I know a little boy born at 25 weeks and it was touch and go a few times (summoned to the hospital to say goodbye twice) at age 6 she is perfect and top of her class.
I teach another who was 1lb born and was told unequivocally that he would not make it through the night.
He is now a strapping teenager, a gorgeous personality and doing really well.
I pray that in years to come you and Bea will be sharing your story with other people.

She does still like her stories. Every night before we leave we read one. She doesn't like her head rubbed so much now, but she does like to hold onto fingers!
