I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Quick question for those on cyclizine - I have seen a few people say you need to wait for it to build up in your system, how long did that take?

LightTripper · 16/11/2016 13:25

For me I saw an improvement in a couple of days Sneezy. I think if it's longer than that I'd go back to GP to try something different.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/11/2016 13:34

DS has been on a sleepover with his GPs. One of them now has suspected norovirus. He's due home any minute. I don't think I can cope with any more vomming Sad

Sneezypeasy · 16/11/2016 15:54

Thanks light I will see how I feel tomorrow and call GP if necessary. Definitely a bit of an improvement, but still not great. Hard to know if it's the nausea still or recovering from weeks of not eating much.

Oh no peace I hope your house stays norovirus free

LucindaE · 16/11/2016 17:45

Goodness, this thread has moved on.
Welcome to PowerofThree and annakd1214. You have had such great advice from LightTripper Blondes and others, I don't think I can add anything save recommending tinned fruit and the juice of tinned fruit, ice lollies and sips of coke and nibbles of crisps. PowerofThree Cyclizine is regarded as completely safe in pregnancy, as others have said. anna 3+ of ketones is the level they usually admit at for fluids. How are the liquids staying down now, as you do need to get those ketones down as soon as you can. Stemetil has really helped several on this thread.
RaeSkywalker Lovely to hear from you. Sorry to hear of your being anaemic and having an infection -was that from stitches? - but so glad that you feel better than you did with Hyperemesis. So nice of you to come back to encourge others.
LHReturns Yes - of course, you will bloom again and look like your old self. It is hard to believe when suffering. The badge I attach says it all about handling other problems.
user1477 I know what you mean; if only one thing appeals, you have to eat it. I hope those biscuits didn't reappear in that magical conjuring trick of Hyperemesis?
Fourcorneredcircle Sorry to hear about retching - horrible - but congratulations on retaining food and drink.
babyand A lot of people worry about that. I think most have few problems with bonding, and even for the few who do, it all comes in time. The wisest advice I ever read was 'If it doesn't come immediately, don't worry. Act as if you love the baby and the love will come'. I remember being emotionally numb from being ill AFTER the birth, but that was highly unusual, and it all came right soon enough. I am shocked at
50 odd pounds for kesostix!
Castlefeck I am so glad that you feel an improvement at 18 weeks.
Great news.
Sneeezypeasy I so agree with LightTripper. You may well need something stronger.
peaceloveIt's dismal; as others say, they will go soon enough, but just another dismal thing to endure.

OH MY GOD.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/11/2016 19:08

sneezy took a good 7/10days for me but once in def helped, but dont reduce as you will feel ill

MotherofPearl · 17/11/2016 09:51

Sorry everyone for neglectful silence. All 3 DC struck down with colds in succession over the last week or so, just haven't been able to keep up properly on here. Will try to do better!
Happy belated birthday to LH. I think you asked about how soon after birth your physical health returns? I think, like a lot of other HG sufferers, the birth gives such dramatic relief from 9 months of unrelenting nausea and sickness, that for me the superficial physical recovery has always been pretty immediate. Both times I've felt elated for months, and physically invincible! But I know that HG really takes it out of you, so even now, 6 months after DD2 was born, I'm taking a good multi-vitamin supplement daily, doing lots of walking, and eating really well, in an effort to help my poor body to recover. This time last year I was so sick, and now I feel in excellent health, and all of you will get there too.
Rae, so glad BabyRae is safely home with you. Hope you're soon feeling a lot better in yourself.
Sorry to see lots of new joiners. You're in the right place here - only fellow sufferers really understand The Horror I'm afraid.
Apologetic waves to Lucinda and encouraging waves to everyone else!

WoopWoop200 · 17/11/2016 11:12

Hi everyone....i posted a thread in the pregnancy section and was directed to here.
I am 11 weeks pregnant with our 2nd and it has been hell! I started being sick at week 5, prescribed cyc-something at week 8. Still nauseous all the time with some sickness. Exhausted all the time and can end up in bed for 2-3 days. Its quite miserable.
I am going to have a read through the thread to look for some helpful tips and love xx

MotherofPearl · 17/11/2016 12:32

Welcome Woop. Could you go back to your GP and ask to try something different? There are lots of options when it comes to meds. The Pregnancy Sickness Support website has a helpful list, as well as lots of other useful information. Hope you have childcare available so that you're able to get plenty of rest? Other than meds, rest is the key to managing this wretched condition. Do stick around to chat on here: plenty of sympathetic current and former sufferers to commiserate with you.

WoopWoop200 · 17/11/2016 13:42

Hi Motherofpearl...my husband has been fantastic and taken over everything he can. My 6 yr old DS actually complains that he sees Daddy too much as he is not used to it lol i attend university on a mon and tues then work a thurs and fri. I did used to work a weds but have already dropped it as i was too tired. Am now looking to reduce my hours again.
I had never heard of hyperemesis before and my GP didn't mention it when i went in about the sickness, nausea and exhaustion. I am going to have a look through the website, maybe ring an advice line and see what they suggest before i go back to the GP.
This seems like a lovely supportive group. I am glad I found it xx

LucindaE · 17/11/2016 14:10

Welcome back MotherofPearl Sorry to hear of those colds; it's lovely to have you back, and we are lucky to have you at all.
Welcome, WoopWoop200 Sorry to hear you are suffering. I think you are trying to do too much, which makes it worse. Can you reduce your study hours or take a sabbatical besides your work hours? It is so hard to keep on working with this. I so agree with MotherofPearl that you may well need stronger meds. As a helpline I suggest Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020. They will have to ring you back, but they will, and their advice has been invaluable for sufferers on here. Meanwhile, do invest in some kesostix from a chemists to check for the early stages of dehydration just in case, and do you find that the juice of tinned fruit (particularly pears or peaches or apricots) sips of flat coke, ice lollies or ice cubes or chocolate milkshake (you can get a soya one, I think, if dairy is very bad at this time) any use of liquids?
Blondes Good advice for Squeezypeasy. Interesting it took as long as ten days to work for you.
Fourcorneredcircle I wish those badges could be distributes - I got that image online on

Waves to all. I hope everyone is coping today. Apologies if I've ignored anyone/cross posted.

Dear friends, I will be back in a more unselfish way later today to catch up with you all.

But I had a happy 12 weeks scan today - all looked good and Harmony test showed low risk for all main trisomies.

And here HE is - my second little man - me and my house full of boys!! I could not be happier after the worst 7 weeks of my life.

Thank you all - I am very emotional and not quite sure what to do with myself.

MotherofPearl · 17/11/2016 15:30

LH, that's such goods news about a healthy baby boy! You must be very relieved the tests came back as low risk. May the next 7 weeks be a huge improvement on the last 7.

CastleFeck · 17/11/2016 16:11

Oh Lh that's amazing news congratulations, a lovely little boy, such a great scan pic too.

Blondes have you found out today?

Welcome woop, sorry you're so poorly. I'd recommend different meds too.

Hi mop and everyone else
Managed to go Christmas shopping today (only 2hrs otherwise I'd have died of exhaustion)

fourcorneredcircle · 17/11/2016 16:47

LH what a lovely scan picture :) and good harmony results too :)

Castle could I persuade you to do my Christmas shopping too?! I keep thinking I'll make a start and order some bits online but then not actually doing it... I normally love Christmas but I'm not feeling it yet... still, over a month to go really :)

peaceloveandbiscuits · 17/11/2016 16:49

Congrats LH Star my 12 week scan is next week and I'm a bag of nerves.

Was sick twice yesterday but feel fine today. Not even retched. And no sign of norovirus so (selfishly) I'm pleased to say it looks like it was only food poisoning. Hurrah.

LucindaE · 17/11/2016 18:21

LHReturns What a lovely scan photo. So happy about your good news.
Castlefeck Congratulations on venturing out Christmas shopping!
Fourcorneredcircle Congratulations on a good day.
Waves to MotherofPearl. It is very nice to have you back. Flowers

OP posts:
LucindaE · 17/11/2016 18:23

Sorry, I'm at it again - brain not working. It was peacelove who had a good day, and Fourcorneredcircle dreaded Christmas shopping. Not surprising! It's Castlefeck was bold in venturing it. It's lucky so much of it can be done online now, if need be.

OP posts:
peaceloveandbiscuits · 17/11/2016 18:41

Ah spoke too soon. DS has exorcist vommed all over me.

MotherofPearl · 17/11/2016 19:10

Thanks for the warm welcome back Lucinda. Flowers
Peace, that sounds horrific! Is anyone else around who can look after your DS? It should not be you, under the circumstances!
Castle, well done on Christmas shopping. Apart from a few bits and pieces from Amazon I have yet to make a real start.
Four, how are you faring now?
