I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks babyand, I will try, it's just so unquantifiable, worried doctor just won't believe me, but I guess there is no harm in trying.

LHReturns · 13/11/2016 17:24

I agree entirely that the crippling 24 hour a day nausea is far far worse than vomiting. My Ondansetron has stopped me vomiting (no weight loss for me - rapid gain from constantly shoving junk food down my throat). But my nausea is not better and this is what has got into my head and literally I feel a sense of PTSD from the last 7 weeks.

LucindaE · 13/11/2016 17:52

Sneazypeasy Welcome. Very bad and continuous nausea is just as bad as constant vomititing, and can also lead to dehydration. As you are a veteran, I am sure you have kesostix to test for that. Do you find ice lollies or the juice of tinned fruit or sips of flat coke any good, or ice cubes? Good luck with the GP. I am sure they can add something or substitute something for the metrocloprimide if it isn't helping all that much. The awful thing is, anecodatally GP's seem to listen more if you have an advocate - partly I suppose because it is hard to fight your corner when feeling terrible. Taking a copy of the NICE guidelines in my introductory post might be an idea.
babyand Good to hear from you. Glad that they at last reduced those ketones. I gather that cariban is extensively used in other countries, less in the UK, where as the first treatment GP's seem to favour cyclizine. I did see it mentioned on the helpher website
www.helpher.org/forum3/viewtopic.php?t=19389
LAReturns Oh dear, it must be hard caring for two kids when you feel drained. Much sympathy over having to be in suspense waiting for those results.
user1477 That is the way to look at it! One third through - and that the worst third for almost everyone.

Sorry, LR Returns cross posted. I so agree about the horror of constant nausea. I do feel that the mental aspect of this illness is neglected. Ah, and that 's meant to be 'vomiting' not 'vomitting'!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/11/2016 18:02

Tinned pears and ice lollies come highly recommended here. I'm sure they're what've staved off dehydration for me!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/11/2016 18:07

Doughnuts and coffee cake not good on the way back up, though. Serves me right I suppose Envy

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/11/2016 18:50

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/11/2016 18:51

waves to everyone else x

peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/11/2016 19:15

I can't stand the smell of real coffee either (one of my first pregnancy symptoms both times! I usually guzzle the stuff) but this cake was delish (going down)!

Sorry to hear you've had a long road TTC. It's such a head fuck believing all your life that one little mistake will ruin your life, and then when you actually want to get pregnant you can't.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/11/2016 19:16

^^ was to blondes

Sneezypeasy · 13/11/2016 19:24

Thanks all, it's somehow comforting to know that I am not alone with the nausea (and not a complete wimp for feeling so awful!).

Thanks for all the suggestions too, ice lollies have definitely helped with hydration, as has hot water with honey and lemon, much easier to drink than water.

Will try to get to GP tomorrow.

fourcorneredcircle · 13/11/2016 19:59

staggers in

Hello all. Another bad day here. But yay, 10 weeks today... one more day down. Today has been a very retchy day with lots of nausea rather than vomit. I, like all of you, hate it. I'd rather be sick I think, even if it was just the once at least then I'll fee better for half an hour or so.

Next time I have a vomit day I'll probably long for a non vomit day though!

leaves again, trying not to move head too much

happydays00 · 13/11/2016 20:20

Evening all,

Hope you are all holding up ok?

sneezy don't feel like a fraud: nausea can be completely debilitating, and as you say there is no temporary respite from an actual vomit. I have found sucking on mints has helped my nausea. Unfortunately no anti emetics took my nausea away - Ordansetron actually made it worse!

Not to depress anyone but I am 37 weeks on Wednesday and still suffering from terrible nausea and everyday vomiting. This morning was particularly bad and after vomiting for the 3rd time by 5:30am I had a little cry on the bathroom floor. I know I'm so close to the end but I am just so exhausted by it Sad

Sorry for the "woe is me" post - just wanted to say hello to all and that's another week down! Flowers

CastleFeck · 13/11/2016 20:31

Happydays so sorry you're still poorly, the pink castle is within sight, but no wonder youve had enough.

Blondes

Been a douche and not eaten enough today so now feel sick. Trying to eat something g so I can go to bed.

CastleFeck · 13/11/2016 20:31

Apparently I cant do flowers sorry blondes

peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/11/2016 20:37

Happydays I had the same experience with DS, but happily, he was born at just over 38 weeks, so you might not have long left!

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/11/2016 21:49

Peace. I know. For years with dh if I had been sick on antib etc we would use condoms for a week etc

Yet when we want to we can't 😢 and takes a teenager on their first try to get preg

Sneezy please get to gp or get a phone app. Mine is good at calling me back and get tablets and you /friend go and pick them up

Four. Sorry a bad day. Try and keep eating. Little and often. Really does help and said many times I prefer to be sick on a full tummy rather then retch bile

Happydays. You woe is me all you like 💐💐 you are nearly there ......

Castle. Bless you. I appreciate the 💐💐and eat woman eat !!!

RobberBride · 13/11/2016 22:10

Sneezy I'm the same - horrible nausea but rarely hurling - and sometimes I long for a good satisfying vomit. But when I have thrown up, it isn't like food poisoning where you start to feel better, it just makes me feel depleted and crap.

Happydays so sorry to hear you're still suffering. Sorry for you and sorry for the rest of us, I keep telling myself it will get better soon!

Blondes good luck tomorrow!

Woke up today with just nausea and a normal headache, no stabbing ice pick migraine. While I've been ill DH has been looking after all essential housework but not the 'extra' stuff, so I did lots of housework and am now regretting it as I think I overdid it. My house looks a lot better though, which has to be good for my mental health?!

I've discovered a new anti-nausea food - almost-frozen seedless red grapes. Sweet and cold and juicy.

LucyHMK · 13/11/2016 22:49

Blimey, this conversation has moved fast!

Massive congratulations to Rae - finally stopped working now I hope! 😉

Robber I like frozen grapes too.

Blondes I'm not sure eating a little & often works for me. I prefer to eat after I've been sick, it seems to stop being quite so sick again.

Hope you are all as okay as you can be. Apologies to the people I've missed.

CastleFeck · 14/11/2016 09:34

Good luck for today Blondes 🌺🌻🌹🌸🌷💐

LucindaE · 14/11/2016 10:30

LucyHKM How are you? I have been horrified at how ill you have been.
Blondes Good luck for twenty week scan, and almost certainly, you won't need it. I am so sorry to hear of your first OH's death, and that you were thrown off the NHS ivf treatment because your second OH has kids, and what a terrible long haul. I am ignorant about IVF - but do you have to take hormones for that, and doesn't that make you feel ill if you are susceptible to Hyperemesis or is it different, as different from the pregnancy hormone?
RobberBride I am so glad you don't have a migraine! Those pregnancy migraines are terrible. Don't overdo it,says Mother Hen.
Sneazypeasy I'm glad ice lollies have helped.
peacelove...and tinned pears. Was it you who had given up on cyclizine and going back for different meds, or have I got it wrong? Sorry for muddle, if so.
happydays You poor thing! I am so sorry. Cyber hugs on offer. It's awful that you are so ill late on. No wonder you cried (offers arm to totter towards famed Pink Castle). Can only echo castlefeck.
castlefeck How are things?
Apologies if I've rudely ignored anyone...

Hello Sneezy,

Don't feel like a wimp. I was only throwing up once a day and it was definitely the nausea that was debilitating more than the vomiting itself. Do emphasise the way it is interfering with being able to live your daily life, and particularly looking after your son - the fact you struggle to be upright, etc. is really important so they understand it is not just a bit of queasiness.

I think most people (including most GPs) just totally don't understand how it is. It's like with me - I think 90% of the people I know would be shocked to know I still feel nauseous all the time. Because I can now function they assume I am "better". And I am twenty times better than I was, but that's still not "well". I think that kind of nausea, where you constantly feel on the brink of throwing up and can't think about anything else, is just very hard for people to imagine unless they have gone through it.

Good luck xx

babyand · 14/11/2016 11:12

Sneezy I'm oh so terrified of jinxing but....cariban has taken a HUGE edge off my nausea!! I can't believe it! I'm so glad I put my foot down and would not take the stemitil any longer!! Try cariban if you can! It's expensive tho....I'm in Ireland and paid €74.60 for 12 days supply

fourcorneredcircle · 14/11/2016 12:26

Has anyone had Cariban in the UK? I'd love the edge taken off my nausea :(

fourcorneredcircle · 14/11/2016 12:28

Boo, Cariban not available in U.K.
