I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

SouthLondon Welcome to the thread nobody wants to need - sorry you feel so bad. It is very difficult to work with this, even with understanding employers, as commutes and working make sufferers so much worse - particularly during the first tri, which is the really bad one for almost everyone. I am not sure what an SMI is - excuse my ignorance.
I suspect that it would be illegal to fire you for pregnancy related sickness even for a firm without maternity provision - but it's worth phoning up Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020 for expert advice on that. They will have to phone you back, but they will, and the advice they give is always really helpful. You'll find lots of support on here. Have you got kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration?
Are ice lollies, sips of coke or the juice of tinned fruit or chocolate milkshake or melon any good for you? And also, lots of people on here atm swear by cuppa soup...
user I am so sorry you have this anxiety, particularly after having had a miscarriage before. Can the midwife give you any reassurance? I think if it' brown blood they worry less about it than if its red.Do keep us informed.
izzy I am so sorry we lost you, and I didn't see that post on the old thread, and when you were in a bad way too. I am so glad you feel a lot better. The very lucky do get an improvement at twelve weeks and may it continue.

Hi all. Thanks for the messages. I don't feel I can talk to my manager confidentially because she works at the right hand of the director. I am the only person of my level in the company. We have no HR department... our advice comes for my husband who is a HR advisor! Also, over a month ago (before I knew I was preg) I asked for a payrise and they are still considering it. I really don't think I would get the payrise if I told them now and it's very vital I do because not employable anywhere else now I'm pregnant. Unfortunately this is the reality I am facing in a horribly sexist world. .... that would be another thread I am sure!
I usually enjoy my job and have had lots of involvement in improving the workplace and I had been fighting for one of my team to have top up maternity but manager dragging her feet. I'm just appearing so negative because I feel so unbelievably awful today. I have just taken another tablet for sickness.
My friend just text and said I should just tell them... She is 12 weeks with twins!!
Thanks for cuppa soup suggestion. What I should have mentioned before is I am gluten free. So can't eat those. Gluten gives me severe bloating, heartburn and fatigue ... not unlike NVP!
I keep feeling dizzy and not thinking straight today. I'm worried about having time off sick as so much to do in the office and also don't get paid sick. We don't have infrastructure to work from home. Saying all of this I realise I need to be upfront with them and then out in the infrastructure to work from home and just accept I am unlikely to get payrise.

Southlondon321 · 27/10/2016 14:35

Sorry I didn't see your message Lucinda and Four.

Good luck going back to work. Have you been signed off? I just can't be signed off financially and work-wise (so much to do). I can get through work and it's a welcome distraction, only getting here is a total nightmare, I hate staying late and standing up on train and bus is a nightmare.

SME is small to medium business. The demands are different because you really don't benefit from reward (statutory sick, mat leave and holiday) but you have lots of responsibility, exposure and opportunity to develop. My pregnancy and health are so much more important than the job but it's hard to shift the work/life balance when it's so engrained in the company.
I hadn't thought about tinned fruit and lollies. I'll got and raid sainsos tomorrow. Feel too weird to go today to shops.

Southlondon321 · 27/10/2016 14:36

Also, not heard of kesostix. What are they?

LightTripper · 27/10/2016 14:59

Hello South - sorry you are suffering so much.

Ketostix are little sticks you can pee on and they tell you if you are badly dehydrated and need to get medical help.

It must be really hard in a small business especially when you are so busy. You may just have to tell them at some point I suspect, but if the cyclizine isn't doing much for you then it may be worth going back to your GP. A few of us here have had success with metoclopramide when cyclizine wasn't enough - and if you get dehydrated they may put you on ondanestron which has worked really well for others here. It's worth keeping persevering until you hopefully find something that works for you, at least to make it bearable (I don't think there's anything that will make it go away altogether sadly).

Sending time-flying vibes to everyone. Second half of pregnancy is sooo much better. Off all my pills now and still have queasy patches through the day (particularly in the evening) but not bad at all - totally manageable. I can now do things like cook and do DD's bedtime again, so no longer feeling so useless. Looking back I'm not really sure how I got through summer but I did and it's done. Hope it's not too long until you are all able to look back and think the same. So glad that Blondes and Castle are starting to come out the other side.

Still using the Tena though Blush - need to urgently get on my Kegels...

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 27/10/2016 15:00

Hi everyone,

And sorry for the radio silence- it's been a rough couple of weeks and I somewhat withdrew to my dark cave! Admission helped to get my hydration levels back, and this has helped my overall feeling of 'wellness'.

I now have a prescription for a lovely mix of Ondansetron, cyclazine and metaclopromide. This worked well for a few days, but now less so? I am also generally quite woozy and low on energy. So still off work which is really awkward. There's no way I can do the 2 hour commute between the sickness and dizzy spells.

I was sent for an emergency scan which happily showed a very wriggle little dancing bean. Was nice to see, and reassuring. I'm now at 11 weeks, feels like it's been 11 months! Roll on May!

I have found tinned peaches to be a complete godsend. Ice cold straight from the fridge. Thank you to all who suggested it. Definitely helps my hydration levels.

Hi to all of the new faces. Sorry to hear of more people struggling.

And big thank you's and waves to all those who helped me. Xx

NerrSnerr · 27/10/2016 16:56

Hello all again, I'm also sorry for the radio silence. I had s short period of feeling better but am now being sick many times a day again. I'm back to the GP tomorrow for a cry to see if there's anything else they suggest. I have luckily avoided admission so far as I am managing a few ice lollies throughout the day. I have been off work for god knows how many weeks now and I can't see when I can return as I have to travel in my job and can't drive without vomiting and the nature of the job I can't be throwing up when doing it. It is really getting me down now, utterly fed up with only being able to sit quietly and when my daughter isn't in nursery doing the bare minimum with her. To add insult to injury she head butted me in the pubic bone last night with the back of her head! It bloody hurts today.

I am now 15 weeks so I'm guessing I am stuck with this until 20 weeks if I am going to follow the usual pattern.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 27/10/2016 17:46

Hi Nerr

Sorry to hear things aren't good. What medication are you on?

I know what you mean, I have felt pretty low myself. It's hard being off work unable to do anything. My poor daughter doesn't understand why I can't play sometimes (she's 12 months). Be kind to yourself.

All I can say is do see the GP, and perhaps look at getting some fluid. Also my GP gave me an antiemetic injection which really helped when I couldn't keep any tablets down.

I hope the GP can help. X

LucindaE · 27/10/2016 18:11

Nerrsnerr Sorry you feel miserable - no wonder. Ouch about pubic bone Shock. You may well feel better before twenty weeks - don't despair; a lot of people feel better round the 16-18 week period. Feel free to moan as much as you like. That is what this thread is for. I'm glad ice lollies have kept you out of hospital. I hope the GP can prescribe something that helped.
IamSerious Sorry you feel bad too, and I am glad that tinned peaches helped in your case. I remember you were surrounded by smoke smelling people in A and E - that sounded awful. Glad they upped your meds after that.
LightTripper Great advice.
SouthLondon It sounds very difficult. I do hope you get something sorted out.
user How is the bleeding now?
I hope everyone is coping today. Watch me cross post with someone as usual.

NerrSnerr · 28/10/2016 08:37

Hi Iam I am prescribed Ondansetron, so I'm gutted it's not working for me as I had high hopes. It worked for about 3 days but now I get about an hour or so relief and I am back throwing up everywhere (the nursery car park this morning which was fun).

Lucinda thank you, I am back at the GP this morning, I think it's back on the cyclazine to be honest, I keep most food down on it although it made me feel really poorly.

Hope everyone has an ok day today and thank you for all the support, this thread makes a huge difference.

LightTripper · 28/10/2016 12:02

Hope your journey went OK South - how are you doing today?

Southlondon321 · 28/10/2016 13:18

Hi light
I'm ok. Feel extreme nausea but haven't been sick. Currently having some lunch and fanta. I went off water yesterday but it's bareable cold with lemon. I might tell work today as my manager and director both in. Will have to suck up any issues that arise. They would never do anything illegal but I am under no illusions about the culture of small businesses.
No one gave me a seat this morning on the train until near my stop so I politely declined (couldn't face walking up the carriage) but did say I would be sick on this lady. Meaning the one in priority seat doing makeup and filing her nails. I know it was wicked but it was a little way of making a point. I promise I'm not normally a horrid person.
Last night I went home to bed and ate a little bit of dinner before going back to bed again. I've declined a dinner invitation this evening which i was looking forward to. It's so weird how it impacts your life so much. I didn't appreciate it before at all. How is everyone else?

LucindaE · 28/10/2016 14:35

user1477229112 Has the bleeding stopped? Thinking of you.
SouthLondon I am sorry that the woman didn't offer that seat - not kind!
Glad you escaped actually being sick, on her or elsewhere...Fanta! How could I have forgotten that? That used to go down really well, sometimes.
Nerrsnerr That is disappointing about the Ondansetron. I hope they try a combination of that and cyclizine, as a lot of people on here have found that is a really good one.
How is everyone else doing?

It's actually the first taste (I've had the whole bottle) of Fanta for 17 years or something lol. I remember drinking Fanta lemon in Europe as a kid but never liked Orange lol

MotherofPearl · 28/10/2016 17:17

Hello all, back in the land of wifi and I see I have lots of catching up to do on the thread. Sorry to see we have new joiners, but you're in the right place here with lovely Lucinda.
I'll be back after a good read through.

fourcorneredcircle · 28/10/2016 21:47

Hello all... hope everyone's ok. I seem to be ok today... which is frightening.

user1477229112 · 29/10/2016 06:42

Hi everyone sorry I have been silent after some brown blood I had a scan at early pregnancy unit all seems ok and I am 11 4 Which is exactly where I thought I would be. I've also seen the midwife finally and heard baby's heartbear. I had a little blood in discharge last night and do wonder if this is some kind of infection when I went to to the loo but so far no pain peeing and no ketones so I am totally lost as to what it is.
Nerr sorry to hear ondansetron isn't working can they increase the dose to 8mg see if that helps ?

Sickness has been managed well with ondansetron 4 mg strips but unfortunately it causes terrible constipation. But having not been able to keep down cyclazline or stematil and various others it's been so helpful. It's kept me out of hospital which is such a positive.

South London you sound like me in my first pregnancy small business and they were not forgiving I needed a month off with my son as I couldn't cope, if you need the time take it your health is so important it's so important to rest as tiredness really aggravates the sickness in my experience.
Four cornered so strange we worry when we have a good day I'm
Exactly the same embrace it 😊

CastleFeck · 29/10/2016 08:37

Hi everyone,

Hcg is supposed to peak at 10-11 weeks so hopefully some of you will see an improvement in your symptoms now you've reached that golden week.

Great news on your scan user.

Shirley sorry you've been bad again.

Can't remember specifics now, but boo to woman on train and constipation.

Are we. At the same stage light? I'm 15+3. Can't believe we've got to the end of October. I thought August would never end.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/10/2016 08:44

User. Sorry about the blood but glad you had scan and heard and saw heart

Some people do bleed

Myusername2015 · 29/10/2016 11:18

Hi all; found this thread after throwing up this morning outside sainsburys 😳 I'm only 6 +4 but for the last week I honestly have never felt so ill....teacher and back to work Monday feeling desperate with not wanting to tell them yet however vomiting 15 plus times a day may be a giveaway. This thread feels like a lifeline though will read through any possible things that might help. Sending hugs to you all suffering.

user1477229112 · 29/10/2016 11:39

Hi user 2015 that is not good are you keeping anything down ? It sounds like you need to get to a gp as soon possible you really don't want to end up dehydrated and potentially hospitalised you may offered some antemetics. lots of users swear by cuppa soups here try to get Liquid from
Wherever you can even
Ice chips. I personally cannot drink water so lucozade and milk is my go to drinks xox

Myusername2015 · 29/10/2016 12:19

Thanks user 147 until yesterday I was keeping some food down now I seem to have diarrhoea and sickness almost constantly; sent husband out for lucozade; had no idea pregnancy could make you feel this wretched! X

user1477229112 · 29/10/2016 12:26

Yes it's awful and hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones to find it settles down at 12 weeks. Make sure you rest as I find My sickness is much worse when I've had a busy or difficult day. This is my second hyperemesis pregnancy and managing much better due to medication, my diet is very poor but I eat what I feel like and what's think will stay down. This forum is really great for advice someone will be along soon with help xox
