Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Four - for me it was coffee. Was shopping and someone walked past me with a take out - literally abanded trilkey and dashed outside as heaved in my trusty coop bag

Plus red wine. Sure I've told the tale when working at a wedding with brides baby and guests and bm spoke to me breathing red wine over me and I literally run to handicapped loo pushing buggy with brides baby in it and threw up everywhere - in loo

Few mints later and I strolled back out with buggy

It's my first baby and know some of you already have kids so get it worse with each preg

Plus it's really improved 14/15w - now heading up for 18 on thur

Still feel nauseated but kinda know if Will or won't be sick - and snacks bags and off I trot

RaeSkywalker · 24/10/2016 20:45

LH sorry you've had such a rotten weekend Sad I'm not surprised there have been tears!

Hi user sorry that you're suffering. I know you probably don't want to hear this, but hospitalisation was the best thing that happened to me- a chance to get hydrated, getting on to good meds, etc. I know what you mean about the dark place. You are not alone.

About showers- I think that Lucinda has nailed it for me. It's just a huge effort, especially if you've been in bed constantly until then. And the smells are awful! On a vaguely related note, I've just chucked out our handwash. The smell makes me feel sick, but I kept it initially because it's not cheap. No point making myself miserable though!

All ok here- 36 weeks now. Mostly nauseous as opposed to physical sickness now (touch wood). Have had to up all my meds to full dose again though. I'' incredibly tired now and struggling to do anything other than drag myself to work and crawl to bed. Had a scare last week with the suspected gestational diabetes- the GTT really knocked me for 6, but thankfully the results were clear.

Hi to everyone! Sorry if I've forgotten to mention someone.

RaeSkywalker · 24/10/2016 20:46

Blondes we went to a wedding last weekend. It was ok actually- food smells weren't too triggering. I was exhausted and sick the next day though.

CastleFeck · 25/10/2016 09:19

Rae sorry to hear you're so tired, on the home straight now, nearly there.

Hopeful for a good day for everyone.

I've just got some pg vits as I can tolerate them now, got the seven seas ones and they've got 10mg of ginger extract in! Apologies for mentioning the 'g' word, I know on a thread like this ginger usually makes for lots of rage. Thought it might be interesting anyway as it isn't in the form of a biscuit or tea or any other useless medium.

It's half term here and the virus is spreading through us all, not exactly the jolly walk through crunchy leaves CBBeebies would have you believe.

I felt well enough yesterday to buy a baby product, first one. It's a travel change mat with zip pockets for a couple of nappies and wipes so you can grab it and not need a whole change bag. This is dc3 so it's probably as exciting as my shopping is going to get!

fourcorneredcircle · 25/10/2016 10:57

LH we've not heard from you for a couple of days, are you ok?

LHReturns · 25/10/2016 11:23

Hi guys - FourCornered thank you so much for checking up on me.

I am ok - about the same. Very nearly 9 weeks which feels like something I guess. Dehydration is an ongoing issue as I have a phobia of liquid. Need to drink what I can in the morning as I can't by afternoon.

Mornings still better, so my lovely best friend came around this morning at 9am so we could chat while I was able to sit up. This is my first guest in weeks and it was such a relief, although reminds me that I am so separate from the world right now. My o my friend is our nanny.

The rest of the day I sit curled up in the guest room hoping no one will bother me.

I seem to be actually allergic to DH right now. He came down to say goodbye to me and DS this morning. He dared to kiss me and I got a huge nose-full of shampoo / deodorant / cologne whatever....and in front of him, nanny, cleaner and DS I ran and threw up into the sink. It was SMOOTH. Poor DH - not the wife reaction he is looking for.

I dunno - I am so bored of myself. So bored of not enjoying food. So bored of worrying about all this. So bored of looking like this.

Boobs how are you doing? And User?

LucindaE · 25/10/2016 11:36

Castlefeck That's interesting about the 'g' word! Sorry about the virus; that's miserable.
Blondes Grin I do like your anecdotes! It's odd about the question of whether it gets worse with successive pregnancies - the evidence seems contradictory. There have been some lucky people on here who (whispers) actually escaped it in subsequent pregnancies they had symptoms more like nasty ms that went after the first tri- and others who had it in some pregnancies, but not others - very odd. Then, the whole situation is complicated by the fact that with LO's you get more exhausted and there's the emotional strain of blaming herself for neglecting them temporarily which probably adds to it.
Rae Lovely to hear from you. We have all been anxious about you.
I'm glad its coming to an end for you, my goodness, you must be tired.
You remember Mother Hen was always clucking about your trying to do too much - standard question: when does ML start?
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.
I hope everyone is coping today....

LucindaE · 25/10/2016 11:39

Ah,and LHReturns I could not bear the smell of DH - I had to sleep with my back turned, and a lavender satchet held to my nose.Shock
Waves to fourcorneredcircle. I hope you are coping, too?

OP posts:
fourcorneredcircle · 25/10/2016 13:46

Glad to hear your ok (well as OK as possible LH). My late afternoons/evenings are getting better every day. I have a friend coming tonight too, I'm really looking forward to it. I've also 'gone off' the smell of my DH but he hasn't made me vomit ... yet...

I've learnt the hard way that letting my body do what it wants in regard to waking/sleeping makes my days better. A few times I've been woken by DH's alarm and those days have been much worse. This does not bode well for my return to work next week :s

User, castle, blondes, how are you doing?

user1477229112 · 25/10/2016 14:07

Hi everyone after having a bad weekend I've been to the doctor and have another 10 days supply of ondansetron. Despite explaining I'd been here before and this works for me the age old question was have you tried anything else it's so frustrating I actually explained my quality of life is extremely poor but it will be even worse without my meds ffs. I actually told her if it wasn't for these I would already be hospitalised. To everyone suffering its so important to get the medication that works for you to make your quality of life better that's one think I've learnt. Also if medications are a little expensive they try where possible not to prescribe. Xo

LucindaE · 25/10/2016 17:44

user I am glad you've got more meds. I so agree about price. If you have any difficulty obtaining another prescription after that, do ring Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020 and they will advise if the GP's surgery is being obtuse. They will have to ring you back, but they will, and have helped a lot of women on here.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/10/2016 18:53

Rae. Hoping coffee isn't too extreme and whoever we sit with I shall ban them from having red wine 😂😂

Sorry you are tired. Homeward bound for you

Lh - poor dh. Tho was funny. You have to laugh and go with the flow

Nanny cleaner etc will be fine

Tho understand. Again was coffee / if df had it even night before (as I work nights in home 730am) and can smell it on his breath I would heave

And dogs farts. Jesus !!!! Many a puke I had over them .....

Lucinda. I'm sure sleep and rest help. The days I felt awful I would lie in bed all morning /day (sometimes with farting dog which didn't help !)

Four. Glad afternoons getting easier for you

User. Sorry your doctor isn't good and supportive and won't give you what you know works

All ok here. Yes been sick twice today. First time was after lunch and in pizza express

Their handicapped loos aren't handy for puking

Lifted seat and thankfully clean rim as nothing worse then wiping someone else's shit off before you puke 😡😱😳- yes have done that !!!

Handicapped loo there and nice to puke in private

Problem being as lifted the lid there is a padded back rest there and seat wouldn't stay uplifted without being held - worked this one out as I threw up and let go off seat and bloody thing hit my head

Forgot hair band

So had one hand holding loo seat up and one hand holding hair back from face - semi long - all while losing the most yummy pizza

I've decided to eat what I want as TBH most meals come up regardless so fed up of plain pasta or jacket

So had a
Chicken onion cheese pizza and was bloody yummy

Just outside work now. Will settle/fed baby and should be asleep till 11pm

CastleFeck · 26/10/2016 08:31

Hi all, just a quick one,

Hope the first tri ladies are plodding on.

I'm better pm than am now, it's swapped this week which is odd.

user1477229112 · 26/10/2016 09:56

Hey ladies today I am
Sipping on lucozade I cannot stand water and I used to drink gallons of the stuff pre pregnancy. I really need to get some keto sticks and I am having so many pains below which I suspect are related to not drinking enough. Has anyone else experienced this ?

As it is second pregnancy I have no bladder control and literally wet myself from violent vomiting episodes in between my meds, so I suspect tena lady could be on my shopping list how embarrassing ! I swear I have no dignity left Shock

CastleFeck · 26/10/2016 12:41

User sorry you're feeling poop.

I wet myself every vom. I puke into a bucket while sitting on loo. I did buy tena for trips out though.
Sounds like you need to send off a urine sample for testing.

LightTripper · 26/10/2016 13:19

Definitely invest in some Tena user - no shame in that (or Always also do pads for "sensitive bladder"!) I think vomiting is harder on your diaphragm than just sneezing/coughing (though these days even coughing can set me off ... I really need to get on my kegels now I am feeling bearable, but there's no way you can even think about that kind of thing when you are feeling so lousy). When my MW asked early on if I had cough-incontinence I said no but I do wee a bit when I vomit, and she said that didn't count as it's a more violent thing than just a cough.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/10/2016 16:55

HAVNT wet myself yet. Hope I don't ,,,,,,,

fourcorneredcircle · 26/10/2016 18:08

No, I haven't wet myself yet. I'll look forward to that then :(

Today was pretty good, even went for a little walk along the beach for 30 mins or so... then came home and rewarded my effort with a vomit and a nap.

Got a parcel today from my best friend who lives and works away from me now. It's ginger in every possible form except useful. I have tea, biscuits, sweets, cordial and chocolate.

Hearts in the right place I suppose :)

LucindaE · 26/10/2016 19:06

Fourcorneredcircle Very kind - but YUK about the sweets and tea, especially. I do wonder that people never think 'Perhaps she might have tried all these sort of remedies', but there we are.
Blondes I'm glad you haven't wet yourself among those other mishaps! I regularly did. Sorry about re-appearing pizza. I had a terrible experience with a pasta bake and couldn't look at it for years...
Castlefeck As well as changing shifts, lets hope the Hyperemesis creeps away...
User That does sound like a bladder infection, oh dear.Mother Hen doesn't want to neg, but do get it seen to before it creeps up to your kidneys, as it can. Kesostix are a great idea. I think you can get them online.
LightTripper How are things?
I was perturbed to see a post from izzy7915 On the old thread. Usually I keep checking, but I forgot, and this one is a couple of weeks old...
I hope everyone isn't feeling too bad today...
Watch me cross post with somebody...

Hi everyone. I'm new to this group. My cousin found the link for me as I was sharing all of my problems with her. I'm 7 weeks today (early scan) dates wise I'm 8+1. I'm really not well at the moment. Not as severe as some I have read but very sick. I've been prescribed promethazine and it worked but made me so tired and sleepy. On Monday the doctor swapped me to cyclizine. This doesn't work as well but it doesn't make me feel like I'm going to fall asleep on the spot. I have a 40 min commute to work and really struggling in the morning to get there for 9 start. We moved last week so I've been off for a week. Yesterday started and today aiming for 10am start. I've been really sick yesterday and today before work (before that it was late evening or early morning) and I feel terrible throughout the day. I've already had a day off sick (before I moved). i don't feel in a position to tell work yet as it's an SME without any maternity policy or professional infrastructure. I am at a loss as to how to get this under control and how to feel better during the day. I've done acupuncture (next appt booked next week), doing acupressure, all the tips online. I'm worried I'm not being healthy for myself and pregnancy. I'm feeling very stressed and unwell and, I suppose, I am reaching out for support advice and to understand other people's experiences.

CastleFeck · 27/10/2016 09:45

Welcome London, sorry to hear you're suffering and have to fit work into it as well. One of the HG experts will be along soon with good advice for you.

Hi everyone else, hope you're all doing ok.

I'm 15+1 now and the nausea is lifting as long as I keep a layer of something in my stomach (cup a soups) I'm down to 2 metochlopromide a day instead of 3 and I haven't been sick for 4 days so I'm optimistic things are really improving now. Wishing tri 1 away for those of you still stuck in its murky depths.

lizzy7915 · 27/10/2016 11:07

I am feeling much better now I am 12 weeks tomorrow and the difference is amazing.... I am still sick but every other day instead of all day everyday I can now manage some food and keep fluids down thank god as it was so miserable I don't feel 100% but a lot better than I was hoping the next few weeks it will pass hope all you ladies are feeling better Flowers

user1477229112 · 27/10/2016 11:24

I have had some brown bleeding on waking this morning and have phoned the early pregnancy unit hopefully I will I will hear back soon. I'm not sure a uti would cause this but I am very worried. I've had a miscarriage before I had my son, x

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/10/2016 12:08

HI London. Sorry you feel so crap. We all do understand 💐

It's hard to work when no one knows - can you tell a manager confidently ?

As castle said cuppa soups help. Def better to try and eat and be sick on food rather then empty tummy and bile and stomach acid. That burns and is awful

Said before improved 14w - now 18 - still sick but def better

Take coop 10p bags with you if go out. They are my godsend 😂

fourcorneredcircle · 27/10/2016 12:51

Thinking of you user

Welcome London I'm due to go back to work on Monday after three weeks off. Not sure how it's going to go, will have to see how I get on.

If it's like today it'll be a disaster as today I'm existing on ice lollies.

How's everyone else doing?
