I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thank you Mother. Unfortunately not, friends have their own children/school pick ups to do and don't live locally and no local family. I've just managed to eat some cheese and an apple and it has amazingly perked me up! Perhaps I've found the thing I can eat! The metoclopromide is very much helping too thank goodness!

Nicnacnoo21 · 05/09/2016 17:18

Aww I'm so pleased u'v been able to eat somethin Autumnsunshinebaby and glad the meds are helping you! I went bak today and they've given me prochlorperazine so hoping they work! I've managed to eat a little sandwich today with salad on! I'm so pleased cause I was surviving on rich tea and I'm even gagging on them! I hope the baby gets some goodness from the small amount of salad I ate! If you have no help from relatives/friends would u be able to afford a little childcare! I know not everyone has this option but u might find ways to make cuts elsewhere just until you can cope. I pay for 2 mornings at a charity run nursery for my DD , they are excellent and they charge £11 per session! My DH said we can scrape another morning so she goes bak this week and I get 3 mornings! Although I work the majority it just helps. At last resort I've downloaded bbc app for kids and you tube is my saviour! I tell her that it's quite time and it doesn't always work but she getting into the routine of having down time where I shut my eyes whilst she sit next to me. Hope the meds carryin working for u .

RaeSkywalker · 05/09/2016 21:07

Rocket glad to hear you're so improved. You're 1 week ahead of me pregnancy-wise, I don't think I'd realised that before!

Mother the bloods came back today. No mention of my liver in the voicemail I picked up after work, but I am anaemic, so have to take the dreaded iron tablets. I think Sleepy was on them- how are you getting on with them now? I'm quite nervous about them exacerbating the HG. DH is currently reasearching how to get more iron into my diet without making me puke more.

Welcome dilly. Maybe a pre-emotive chat with your GP about staring medication early is a good idea?

Autumn when is your holiday finishing? You poor thing, you must be miserable.

RaeSkywalker · 05/09/2016 21:08

Nic glad that you're getting some respite.

Nicnacnoo21 · 05/09/2016 21:49

RaeSkywalker just to let you know they do a liquid iron juice drink called Spatone, maybe google it, it's a little sachet of 100% natural iron and its in an apple juice with Vit C , I'm not an expert but when taken with vit c the body absorbs the iron better. Anyway I drank a few sachets of them a day in my first preg ,instead of the dreaded ferrous sulphate. I cud stomach them and my iron levels stayed nice and high. They were recommend to me by my fathers friend who is a heart surgeon!! Oooooh get me lol. Anyway in all seriousness I thought they were great and I didn't get the terrible constipation and all evil that goes with it.

RaeSkywalker · 05/09/2016 22:02

Thank you Nic! I will definitely order some Smile

LightTripper · 06/09/2016 07:04

Hello all! Sorry for the radio silence. Have been on holiday so harder to check in. Things much better here. Not even being sick every day any more, and had an amazing day yesterday, was able to help cook dinner and only took 2 sets of pills instead of 3. Really hoping I've turned a corner rather than it just being a lovely side effect of holiday. It's early compared with last time (15 rather than 20 weeks) but with the pills possible I think, even though it seemed even more intense this time to start with? Anyway, I am going to believe this for as long as possible. Still feeling sick all the time, but much less intensely, so I can actually think about other things, it's bliss!

Sorry to hear about so many others still struggling. I hope the metro is doing some good Autumn? Travelling while ill is awful, sounds like you are having a rough time. Me to and Cyclizine both wiped me out the first few days but the tiredness got much better, so hopefully it will for you too.

Waving at everybody else, old and new. Will pop in occasionally if that's OK to see how you are doing even if things are better. Back to work Tuesday next week and giving a scary presentation on Wednesday so that will be the real test!

Zaspbar · 06/09/2016 07:32

Lighttripper I'm so glad HG is releasing its grip finally on you.
I've gone quite as was struggling again and felt very low and useless.

First day today I've made a coffee for my husband in 10.6 weeks I'm so happy (that's my biggest a homeboy for weeks!) seeing the light also. It's such a long time to feel so aweful for that I feel depression is sitting on my shoulder waiting to take over of you know what I mean?

I should of taken the anti sickness tablets and in hindsight would of done.
I'm going to venture out on my own today (equipped with sick bags). I've become anxious of leaving the house alone through fear of fainting, spewing and sheer exhaustion.

nicknacnoo21 You are so so right the iron tablets make HG so much worse. Luckily my GP took me off them as she relised they were having a bad effect !! Been finding it hard to supplement diet as I feel I can only keep down potatoes (not much iron there).Wink

dillydollydarling · 06/09/2016 07:41

I'm very lucky that we have family around us that would be able to look after DD if I do end up suffering badly. And we could put her in nursery if needs be.

We have booked an appointment with our doctor to discuss everything and hopefully put in place a plan of action to prevent me getting too bad!

SleepymrsE · 06/09/2016 08:12

Morning from a very tired sleepy. Every bone in my body feels tired today. DH away with work now but luckily parents are having DS tonight so that I can rest after work instead of being on toddler duty.

Only checking in quickly to say yes rae I am on those bloody horrid iron tablets, although they finally seem to be bringing my iron count back up slightly (despite feeling so tired). I only managing 1 or 2 a day at the minute as they make my sickness worse and the combined effect of them and the ondansatron was making going to the loo very troublesome! Might be worthwhile trying the liquid, but I wouldn't rely on diet as if you're still pretty much on the beige HG diet you'll struggle to include many iron rich foods.

Hospital went ok yesterday, baby seems fine - growth sat around the 50th centile so not too big or too small. Head down still but not engaged anymore (apparently it's normal in second pregnancies for their heads to bob in and out of your cervix and not engage properly until labour). I asked about the pains and from what I was describing the midwife thinks I've got SPD and I've got to self refer to physio. At least I've only got a maximum of 6 more weeks of this even if it does make me go to 42 weeks!

Will pop back in later this evening and reply to everyone else. Long day at work to contend with now.

LucindaE · 06/09/2016 11:47

Goodness, SleepymrsE I didn't realise you were still working. You gallant thing! And on those horrible iron pills- they just made me vomit, I don't know how people manage to retain them. That apple juice idea of nicaanoo's sounds good, and as you say I believe there is a drop form less obnoxious. I'm glad the scan news was so good.
atumumnsunshinebaby Sorry holiday is such a washout. I'm glad meto is helping you. It does help many quite a lot.
LightTripper Glad you feel so much better. Fifteen weeks is fairly early by Hyperemesis standards, so that's really good news. As Rae I meant to agree with Rae, people seem mostly to get relief sometime between fifteen and twenty weeks, some even a bit later. Sadly it often tends to be much later than with nasty MS, and even with that fourteen weeks seems average. But even for the unlucky minority with whom it never really goes, it does become much more managable. Also, women expecting twins seem to get relief earlier, I suppose because very likely they would never normally have been nudged over into Hyperemesis territory with a singleton pregnancy.
nicaanoo That child care idea sounds really good- and the routine.
dillydollydarling I'm glad you're getting it all planned.
Waves to MotherofPearl and everyone. I hope everyone is coping today, and apologies if I've rudely overlooked anyone.

MotherofPearl · 06/09/2016 12:58

Rae, glad to hear that the blood tests didn't evidence any liver problems, although sorry to hear about the anaemia.
Light, so glad that you're feeling so much better, that's great news and gives hope to everyone else.
Sleepy, sorry to hear about SPD diagnosis, that's the last thing you need! How many sleeps until your mat leave starts? Enjoy the rest this evening.
Zaspbar, hope your trip out today goes OK and you don't have to use those sick bags!
Gosh, it's so warm here, I really feel for you all in this weather.

Pollyeleanor · 06/09/2016 13:19

Hi all,
My wife and I are 7+1, first pregnancy. After 12 tries we were so excited to finally have one take. Now I feel like I can't enjoy it or even think about our baby because I am so sick. All day, every day. I have migraines, dry heave all day then spend the evening completely emptying my stomach.
Went to the drs, was told I just had to ride it out and eat ginger biscuits. Not sure I can stand 5 more weeks of this, and that's if it does end at 12 weeks.

LucindaE · 06/09/2016 17:51

Pollyeleanor Welcome. Sorry you are suffering so. Invest in some kesostix (available from any chemists) to see if you are becoming dehydrated. Can you see another GP, as that one sounded so unsympathetic? Are sips of flat coke, ice lollies or the juice of tinned fruit any good? Try the above number on 024 7638 2020 to advise you how best to obtain meds. A retired doctor will ring you back; he is very sympathetic and has helped lots of women on here get meds.
Zaspbar I hope your trip went OK?
Waves to the redoubtable MotherofPearl.

MotherofPearl · 06/09/2016 18:47

Welcome Polly, and sorry to hear you're so sick. As Lucinda suggests, it's really worth trying to see a different doctor so that you can try some of the wide variety of safe medications available. Do you have an EPU near you? Many allow you to self-refer, and they're often a lot better at treating pregnancy sickness than GPs. If you test for dehydration and get a score of 3+ or more of ketones then you really need IV rehydration in hospital (via A&E if necessary). Good luck, and do stick around on here for plenty of support and understanding.

MotherofPearl · 06/09/2016 18:48

PS. You can also buy ketostix on Amazon, if you're struggling to leave the house.

SleepymrsE · 06/09/2016 19:53

I know I said I would post this evening but I am so incredibly tired. In bed about to settle down to sleep. 3.5 more working days until mat leave starts. It cannot come soon enough. My original grand plans of nesting / cleaning / sorting may need to wait until I've caught up on a bit of rest. I have managed to nearly pack my hospital bag tonight, just a few more bits to get. I fee 36 weeks is an acceptable point at which to finish it. Sorry not to respond to everyone but my brain just doesn't want to function.

Everincreasingirth · 06/09/2016 21:32

Hello, not posted on this thread before. Only eight weeks pregnant and the nausea and vomiting is taking over. Though i am managing to keep small amounts of (mainly white rice) foods down so not at the horrible level some of you are having to put up with. . Sent home from work today as couldn't carry on. Sounds so pathetic but just didn't know what to do with myself. Gp gave me maxalon tablets yesterday but despite taking three today can't feel any effect other than feeling even more or if it. Does anyone know how long they are meant to take to work? This is a much wanted baby but found myself thinking today that if i miscarried then at least i could be normal again

RaeSkywalker · 06/09/2016 21:51

Light so glad you feel better. Hopefully it's the start of an upward trend- just don't overdo it. I hope that the presentation goes well!

Zasp well done for the coffee. How was your day out?

dilly hope that the appointment goes well. Would be interested to hear what they say if you don't mind sharing!

Sleepy my 'favourite' saying at the moment is "I'm so tired I can feel it in my bones". DH looks at me like I'm nuts, but it describes the exhaustion perfectly for me! I've just taken my first iron tablet (will order the sachets but thought I should start taking something ASAP). I feel quite nervous! So glad that your appointment went well. I'm amazed how HG babies can take what they need to grow well! Hope you get a good sleep.

Mother, it's warm here today too! Our office air con has conked out, so many people were feeling unwell. I was in a right state. Really hope it improves.

Hi Polly. I was in your position a few weeks ago. Please go back and ask for help/ take someone to advocate for you, emphasise the impact on your quality of life. Are you managing to keep fluids down? Flowers for you, it's miserable.

Ever welcome. I have no experience of the meds you're on, but please ask for something else if they aren't helping. Have you tried cyclizine? Your feelings are totally normal (for me at least). Sickness is horrendous. Are you managing to keep fluids down? Glad to hear that your work were supportive today.

All ok here, it's so hot at work though. Wasn't well at all earlier- might have to leave early tomorrow and work from home if it's the same. I'm incredibly tired, so hoping that addressing my anaemia might help with this. Baby is super active this week,B making really strong movements- and it's discovered my ribs, which is a real treat Grin Thinking of you all, as always.

MotherofPearl · 07/09/2016 10:02

Welcome Everincreasing. Sorry to hear you're feeling so bad. No judgement on this thread, ever - we are all current or past HG sufferers and can all relate to those desperate thoughts you describe. Maxolon is Metochlopramide. I don't have personal experience of this particular medication but someone else will be along shortly who has. I think you need to give it about 3-4 days and then if it's not working go back to your GP and ask to try something else. Do let us know how you get on.
Rae, I really hope the AC at your work is mended now. It's horrendously hot and humid even for people who aren't PG and don't have HG.
Sleepy, I'm worried about how tired you are and hope you got a good rest last night. Hurrah for only 3.5 working days left. Cheering you on for this last stretch!
How is everyone else doing today? I'm really enjoying the peace of only having the baby at home!

LucindaE · 07/09/2016 13:58

Welcome Everincreasinggirth. Some people find metoclopramide very helpful. I can't improve on MotherofPearls advice of giving it a few days, then asking for something else. Congratulations on rice. I always found it a bit dodgy myself on the way up again but it is very bland. Do invest in some kesostix in case the nausea/vomiting gets worse. You can get them from a chemists or online. How do you find flat coke, ice cubes, ice lollies, soda water, and juice of tinned fruit and tinned fruit and nibbles of crisps?
PollyEleanor How are things now?
SleepymrsE How on earth have you kept going? What job did you say you did?
Rae That sounds awful.
Waves to MotherofPearl I hope zaspbar had an uneventful outing.

OP posts:
SleepymrsE · 07/09/2016 19:53

Sorry that I'm worrying you mop, now it's only 2.5 working days. I promise once I've finished I will rest up. I'm getting slower walking (waddling/hobbling) round work now and have to stand to one side to let people pass me. Quite a few have questioned when I finish and seem relieved when I say Monday. Lucinda I work in a university. Luckily things get really busy again just after I finish.

rae hope the iron tablets are going down ok? They made my sickness much worse to start with but think now I've dropped to 1 or 2 a day it's reduced my energy levels again even though the sickness and constipation has improved. It's such a fine balance. Hope you're managing at work ok and not overdoing it.

Welcome to ever, hope the meds start to work for you. Don't feel you can't go back to your GP if they don't work. And don't few too guilty about your thoughts, I'm fairly certain most of us with HG have thought something similar. I know I did.

Hi to everyone else. Hope you're all dealing with the horrible humid weather. Don't think that's helping any of us.

Autumnsunshinebaby · 07/09/2016 20:07

Just to say I'm thinking of you all. I'm still away on holiday.... Mostly in bed unfortunately as it is getting worse steadily.

sleepy Roll on Monday! Well done for getting to the end.

Rae I hope the iron tablets help.

Ever I'm taking metoclopromide. I found it more helpful than the last two I tried however it seems to be losing its effectiveness with me.

Hello to everyone else!

SleepymrsE · 07/09/2016 20:16

Oh no autumn, that's not good about you still suffering that badly. Bet you can't wait to get home. I would suggest another trip to the doctors. Sounds like you could do with a combination like many of us on here had to be prescribed.

Autumnsunshinebaby · 07/09/2016 20:39

sleepy I hadn't realised I might be able to have a combination of things. My main issue is overwhelming nausea 24/7. I wonder if anyone knows of any medications that are good for that. Of course without all the medication I've had so far I could have been vomiting by now so I am grateful I'm only dealing with one side of PNV!
