Happy weekend everyone!
I am so looking forward to lieing still and being sick in my own bathroom! Simple things Grin

MimiDiddy · 18/06/2016 11:12

Yay, my JMB sleep bras arrived yesterday. So I have had an excellent nights sleep with my girls safely stowed in their new cotton soft hammocks, ah bliss! Am a little concerned that the nausea and trapped wind might have eased off but it could just be I've been eating constantly and I've been avoiding the wind enducing stuff this week. 6 dates until my scan, I am getting damn impatient.

How's everyone else doing this weekend? Got any exciting plans?

LynseyH5 · 18/06/2016 11:29

I've given in and told my dad. I really didn't want to stress and worry my parents again but I know there is no way to hide how poorly I feel with them visiting tomorrow.
I'm phoning the docs first thing Monday to see if they'll give me anti nausea meds as it's just horrid. I really hope it's a positive thing I feel so rough as I didn't with the mc's. I did with the healthy pregnancies so I have serious hope! Managed some housework today and even managed to rope in my eldest to help. Not sure how I'm going to face a kiddies birthday party tomorrow though.

Great news truly so happy for you!
What a lovely relief for you mimi! Makes a huge difference to have a good night's sleep doesn't it.
macauley enjoy your down time at home, I hope the sickness isn't too bad for you.
I hope those with spotting are having a better day today, really does suck and I remember the anxiety far too well. Knicker checking becomes far too 'normal' doesn't it, I have been doing it too.
I spoke to my partner about this pregnancy yesterday and told him no matter what the outcome is, I'm not doing this again. The feeling ill, the worry, everything, I just can't do it again. So fingers crossed that this time is 3rd time lucky!!

Can I ask a maybe silly question ladies?

With the sore boobs thing... did anyone just have one that hurt?! I'm finding my left is fine but right is sore (mainly the nipple). I just had a shower and the water on my right hurt but the left was ok. Staying away from Google lol x

Macauley · 18/06/2016 15:47

Yeah they alternate which one is sore! Last week anytime the shower water hit my left nipple was agony but the other one was fine. Left boob is definitely more sore than right. Is it weird I just pushed them to check?! Lol got a sports bra on today it's bliss!

mikesh909 · 18/06/2016 15:49

Hope everyone's enjoying the weekend....

Happy to hear your good news Truly! Good luck to everyone with scans / appointments coming up this week.

Lynsey, with the boob thing, one of mine always hurt more than the other. I can't remember which though...

I had my 16 week mw appointment recently. Was boringly routine. They don't do the listening to the heart beat thing round here, which is a shame I think because it all still feels very abstract to me. The scan feels like ages ago. The next one feels like ages away. My symptoms have more or less gone away. All of this, including how I feel, is normal according to the mw and everything I read. I can just feel the anxiety starting to grow again Sad. I keep thinking about sad stories of people who found out awful things at 20 weeks. Am starting to consider whether a private reassurance scan might be worth it. We really should not be wasting the money... Any advice from someone further down the line? Or any advice at all?

AButterflyLightsBesideUs · 18/06/2016 17:04

Mine aren't sore, more super sensitive to touch (and excruciating to feed from I found last time!) but I can well believe that for some people it's one boob only, and probably that the feelings come and go. Just a quirk I think, pregnancy is pretty weird in the effects it causes.

Just a tip for when you speak to your GP Lynsey, make sure you are clear with them whether it's anti nausea or anti vomiting meds you need. I got given anti vomiting ones in my first pg which were no help as I was only being sick once a day, - it was the nausea that was so debilitating. If your GP won't prescribe, try another GP, - this is one of those things where some GPs are more helpful than others. Weight loss, dehydration and general incapacitation are usually the triggers for medicating and these can be caused by either nausea or vomiting.

Here's a bit I've C&P'd from the hyperemesis thread on the range of meds usually used:
cyclizine (old fashioned anti-histamine; can make you sleepy)
Metoclopramide (empties the stomach faster, less to upchuck)
Domperidone (similar)
Prochlorperazine (stemetil/Avomine/Buccastem) (works on your sense of balance; also a travel remedy; can be very good for some people).
Promethazine (called Phenergan)(stronger old fashioned anti-histamine, also sleepy-making)
Ondansetron (the strongest and many people find the best, but causes constipation).

I'm on avomine (which I think you can actually buy over the counter for travel sickness anyway) and it's helped me a lot. I'm feeling a lot better now and trying out reducing from 3 to 2 doses a day.

AButterflyLightsBesideUs · 18/06/2016 17:18

Just seen your post mike wow 16 weeks, it seems like you are streaking ahead but I think that's just the good old pregnancy time lapse effect where your own seems to last about 3 years and other people's goes by in about 2 months!

As someone who has had a shock no heartbeat at 20 week scan and all the subsequent nightmare that ensued... all I can say is a 16 week scan in that pregnancy would have shown a live happy baby and the loss would still have been an almighty shock. It's just a snapshot in time - a good indicator for the future but no guarantee. I did get automatically scanned at 12, 16, 20 weeks (and some later ones) in the following pregnancy and it made a huge difference to my mental coping so was worth it for me then.
It's worth thinking about what you want from a scan. The cheaper private ones are usually gender scans and will obv show you whether there is a heartbeat, but they are not usually done by people like fetal medicine specialists who could actually assess the health of the baby/placenta/cord etc and essentially do an early anomaly scan. You can get these but usually they are a fair bit more expensive.

If it's a question of limited finances, for me personally, I would rather spend on a consultant scan in the third trimester to check on growth, placenta function and cord flow etc but I have a lot of friends through support groups who have experienced late stillbirths so that is my big anxiety. It's very personal and only you know what you need at any given time. Hopefully you'll start feeling movement soon and that is a huge reassurance!

Macauley · 18/06/2016 17:31

butterfly I don't think I need nausea meds but I am dehydrated. I'm finding I can't drink anything without it making me feel sick. Water tastes weird, decaf tea or herbal tea makes me sick. Is there anything you've tried that helps?!

Macauley · 18/06/2016 17:33

mike I would go for a private scan if i knew it would help with my anxiety and make me feel better.

Should we get as far as 16 w it's something I'm definitley considering.

LynseyH5 · 18/06/2016 17:49

Thank you butterfly for the hints. It's definitely the anti nausea I need. I've not been sick (yet) but the nausea is making everything seem impossible. I'm trying to eat regular meals but it's so hard when your not sure if it's gonna stay down or not and each mouthful makes you want to gag!

macauley I bought the pink lucozade (now with zero calories!!) and I've sipped at that as cold as possible... I add in a few ice cubes which also takes away some of the fizzyness and makes it easier to swallow. It's kept me drinking and it's not too sweet to make me feel any worse than I already do.

AButterflyLightsBesideUs · 18/06/2016 18:19

Mac for me it's all about icy icy cold, I can't drink cool/room temp or hot drinks. I freeze a number of bottles half full of water and then when frozen get them out and top them up with water, it goes really cold and stays cold for a good while. DH brings me apple juice with lots of ice in and a straw first thing in the morning, getting the sugar in helps, and the straw makes it more palatable for some reason. Sucking ice cubes whilst lying down was all I could manage at my worst 2-3 weeks ago. Ice lollies are also good. I don't like it but I've heard lots of people recommend coke/flat coke for morning sickness. Hope you find something/a mix of things that help!

AButterflyLightsBesideUs · 18/06/2016 18:20

Also really enjoying sweet juicy peaches at the moment - they're nearly all water aren't they! If you can stomach high water content fruit like melon or something that might help.

Macauley · 18/06/2016 18:45

I had some apple juice last night it was amazing! Will need to get some more. The only other thing is diet coke but I'm trying to avoid caffeine so can't rely on that. Might get some pink lucozade though as I really like that normally. I will try the freezing of water trick and see if it helps thank you!

Eastend2015 · 18/06/2016 19:15

mike I'd agree with butterfly about an extra scan at this stage. Your midwife or GP might be able to listen to the heartbeat if that helps reassure you but really you need a medical professional to do a 20 week scan and importantly, talk you through any follow up points. Not much longer to wait now- I know it feels like a lifetime but it will pass!

LynseyH5 · 18/06/2016 19:16

The pink lucozade is on offer in tesco at moment if you buy the multipacks ;-)

Funny you mentioned straws butterfly as I was thinking earlier I wish I had some! Ice lollies have also given me some relief. I bought the mini twisters, bit of a fruity flavour so tastes fresh.

Macauley · 18/06/2016 23:05

Sad ice lolly was so good and made me feel better. But I couldn't keep it down. 9 weeks today and think I might have a bit of an issue now with the sickness, hmmm!

I'm another one with odd boobie pain. Sometimes it's one nipple, sometimes both. Sometimes they are achy and sometimes less so. According to my early scan I'm 9 weeks tomorrow. I'm ready to start feeling hopeful now. I'm not quite their yet but I'm trying. Had some aches and pains but trying to remind myself that is normal.

LynseyH5 · 19/06/2016 09:27

Morning all.

tinkly don't be silly, it's nice you want to share concerns. I also noticed there is caffeine but as I'm totally off tea, don't like coffee and can only sip at the lucozade, I don't feel too bad. Guidelines say you can have 200mg of caffeine a day safely and if I remember rightly a can of coke is about 45mg?
I also water mine down with ice cubes!
This morning I still feel 'yuk' but feel like I'm functioning a bit better. Managed some toast already which is great.

As for 'boobiegate', I'm not glad you're suffering for those that are but glad I'm not the only one who has just an odd one playing up lol. The sore boobs feel like a minor thing compared to the nausea so I won't moan....for now!

mikesh909 · 19/06/2016 11:38

Thanks for the thoughts on reassurance scans. Butterfly, I think you are right. I could go for a scan today, see that all is well, and still have a bad result at 20 wks. It isn't a guarantee, is it? And I hadn't really thought about what Eastend also said, in that a private scan more than likely will not go in to the medical details that are necessary to really understand the health (or otherwise) of the baby. So on reflection, I think that unless something changes, and I have cause for (greater) worry, I will tough it out until July 15th....

My thoughts are with everyone struggling with first trimester nausea. For me, this disappeared pretty much overnight, coincidentally, on the day of my booking in appointment. I know that doesn't happen for everyone, and it does sometimes make a comeback but perhaps a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel?

AButterflyLightsBesideUs · 19/06/2016 18:26

Oh Mac Sad you do sound like you are really suffering. I hope today has been less horrible but might be worth considering meds?

Whatsername17 · 19/06/2016 19:05

I've got an awful cold and Hayfever. Really suffering today. But, on the plus side, I can't smell anything so the nausea is a little easier.

LuckyinOctober · 19/06/2016 19:11

As an energy drink I'd have guessed lucozade would be higher in caffeine than coke, if you're not able to stomach any other caffeine and it's diluted in ice and helping you get through, it probably has a place though. I'm currently drinking hot chocolate which will also have some caffeine, while in theory I'm totally abstaining from it due to paranoia in practice it'd be difficult as so many things have it in them.

My best find for nausea so far has been watermelon - I've had small portions of it scattered throughout today and it's been one of my most comfortable days this week. I've then managed to eat a bit more as a result which I'm hoping will help maintain a positive cycle... maybe nausea meds are worth considering Mac yours does sound really bad Flowers
