Big babies!!

I'm 28 weeks and had another scan and not only is he the wrong way up but his a week bigger than should be, i'm not too worried about the position as there's lots of time for him to move but my son was 2 weeks early and weighed 8lb 13oz. Alot of people say they get bigger the move you have?!! should i be expecting a heavy load? its starting to feel like it!

Big babies are great.

Feed and sleep like a dream

suzycreamcheese · 12/01/2007 21:35

cece, i agree; the feeding bit took a bit of getting used to but they do seem to sleep through the night quickly (11 weeks for us!)

good luck lisjane2 x

lulumama · 12/01/2007 21:37

my second was almost half a pound lighter than my first..spoke to someone at mums and tots whose second was 3 lb lighter than her first ! and i know of several other mums whose babies have got lighter the more they have ! you tend to grow the size of baby you can birth !

tips to help turn a breech baby

pucca · 12/01/2007 21:37

My dd was just short of 9lb born at 40+6, my ds was 9lb 6oz born at 38 weeks...so the "they do get bigger" theory was correct for me.

lisjane2 · 12/01/2007 21:39

DS was so hungry cos he was big that when my milk came through he could of had a drink from across the room!! stated missing a feed at night by 9 weeks though.

thanks lulumama on tips, i had a look today on other messages about breech babies and it was really useful. the only problem at mo is his feet kicking my bladder!!

lisjane..I had a son who was 9lb1oz when born. I was then told that both my DDs were 'BIG' babies in excess of 10lb or estimated to be. They both weighed in at 6lb14ozs so nowhere near as big as told.

jalopy · 12/01/2007 21:45

Yes, probably. My first and second were both 9lb 12oz. My third was born 3 weeks early and weighed 9lb 6oz! She would have been quite large if she had gone to term.

whoopsfallenoveragain · 12/01/2007 21:46

Lulu that's scary about growing the size of baby you can birth - dd was 10lb 5oz

Gingeme · 12/01/2007 21:48

Not so in my experience.
1st was 8lb 10oz
2nd was 7lb 13oz
3rd was 7lb 6 oz
4th was 8lb 13 oz

lisjane2 · 12/01/2007 21:50

i did eat loads with first preg as i wanted a bump, but after carrying him in last weeks i was sooo glad he was early!!
i'm 5'8" and maternity clothes are size smaller than normal at a 12 but last time i had to go in a size 16. worried if his started to put more weight on now and still got ages to go!!

DD was 8lb 8oz and i had an epidural and forceps with her.
DS was 11lb 1oz. we had no idea he would be that big. i gave birth to him naturally and then found out. what a shock! he's now 7 months and a very average baby, but he'll always have the image of the 'huge baby' to everyone, it seems!
with DD i felt very sick during the pregnancy. with DS i ate a lot. mostly fruit. and sugary stuff. i did get tested for diabetes, but it was negative.
good luck!

lisjane2 · 12/01/2007 22:00

11lb 1oz!! all i can say is ouch!!!

Lizzylou · 12/01/2007 22:16

Lisjane, my first DS was 8lb 13oz born 40+6 and DS2 was 10lb 11oz (ventouse delivery both times)...strangely up until 36weeks he was breech but turned the night before the scan, I was scanned regularly due to size of my bump (humungous!) and tested for diabetes but they left me to it as I am 5ft 9" and built like the proverbial!!!

Don't panic, both my boys have been fab feeders and sleepers and still are, they are rarely ill and so strong and sturdy, never have to worry if they are a bit poorly or lose their appetite.

lizziemun · 12/01/2007 22:25

My first dd 9lb 4oz at 39 weeks i would have agree with cece feed well but didn't sleep through the night until she was nearly 2 years.

Have just found out i'm pg with my 2nd i hope it won't be bigger then dd, although everyone told me she would be average and they were all shocked at her size.

SickJealousandWorried · 12/01/2007 22:28

The bigger they are-generally-the better they slep.
A big upside for the limited time of "agony".

buktus · 12/01/2007 22:34

i went the opposite way
40 weeks ds1 9lb 9ozs
37 weeks ds2 9lbs(just as well)
38 weeks dd 6lbs 6ozs

lisjane2 · 12/01/2007 23:20

My labour with my first, i'm finding out, was actually pretty good. although i had contractions most of the day they didn't hurt much and was only 3cm by 1am, then 5 hrs later i'd pushed him out, with no stitches and no help. i'm just hoping this next one turns before he gets too big and can't. i wonder if that cos i'm finding myself waking up nearly on my front or flat on my back. i was told that you should mainly be sleeping on your side.

dd 9lb2 ds 10lb both 39 weeks. ds birth was fantastic experience - am pg again and hoping for a repeat (also hoping that 3rd babies don't get even bigger!)

As for the sleeping through ds finally slept until 6am (a real lie in!) at 12 months. Definately don't want another one of them!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 12/01/2007 23:33

ds1 was 9lb9 a week early and ds2 was 10lb12 4 days late.
both delivered naturally.
with ds2 i was told on numerous occaisions he was approx. 2-3 weeks bigger than he should be and was referred to consultant with the possibility of cs which i really didnt want only to be told:
' we wouldn't dream of intervening 'till the baby hit the 12lb mark dear '
lol

GILLIAN74 · 12/01/2007 23:46

DS born weighing in a healthy 8lb 3oz, term+10days. 18mths later DD born an even healthier 10lb 4oz, 4 days early.

Could not be happier although shocked at dds weight. Should have read the signs baby bump was numb for weeks (skin stretched to max) leading up to delivery.

lisjane2 · 12/01/2007 23:54

i finding out that the boys seem to be weighing the most here!!

Big babies feed and sleep like a dream cece

i wish for me that was true ds 8lb 3oz amazing child would have more of him. Different story for dd 10lb 4oz she is 16mths now and still can count using both hands how many nights she has slept through. (she cried a lot as a baby, but would not change her for anything).

lisjane2 hope the second is'nt going to be too much bigger, but you will just have to wait and see.

jampots · 13/01/2007 00:30

another big baby mummy here. although only 8 9 and 8 12 but both early (1 week and 3 weeks). both slept and fed like a dream too

cece · 13/01/2007 10:30

Ummmm so no real pattern then!

My first DD was 8 lbs

second DS was 11 lb 4 oz.

Funnily for me DS was an easier birth and easier baby to look after feeding wise. Both of mine have slept well.
