mg- it is quiet on here this weekend maybe we have been desserted!!!

I have been invited to a BBQ today with my dad it is 30 mins drive away (dad lives nr where bbq is). Not sure whether or not to go as dad has just been diagnosed with non epiliptic seizures but the last two times I have seen him (over last 10 days) he has had a fit on me and scared me half to death. ( he does convulse on the floor) And because of this he can't drive. Even though I know there are going to be a lot of people at this BBQ today as it is a fund raiser for his friends sons Rugby club, can't decide whether to go or not.
b)How far would any off you drive on your now at 37++ weeks knowing that you have to drive yourself back ( as dad has been banned due to the fits) should anything happen/start?
Sorry for rabbiting on.

Kbaby has had her baby so she didn't make it to our thread. She annouced it on Birth Annoucements I hope my labour goes like hers.

monkeygirl · 04/06/2004 23:36

Sorry Karen, I've been out and about today (for a change!) so it's probably too late for my tuppence worth, but I think 30 mins away from home driving is probably the most I'd go, taking into account that there could be a few delays etc. I personally haven't gone further than 25 minutes walk this weekend and I think that's as far as I will go! The walk I did do completely knackered me though and I was out for the count when we got back from the fair today. Was tempted to go on a ride to start things off but I couldn't face it in the end.

Hope you managed to get to your BBQ and are having a good time anyway.

Now tonight I really do feel I am in a ghost town - I can see the tumbleweeds now...

I'll go off and check Kbaby's birth announcement then!

karen01 · 05/06/2004 05:07

mg- I decided not to go in the end. As it turned out when i spoke to dad earlier this evening he fell asleep 1hr 30mins into bbq (his fits make him tired) so good job i din't go as i would have been by myself with strangers.

I can't sleep, going to try again now and see if i can dose of but had stomach ache seems to have eased, but i have had the runs (sorry)

Gomez · 05/06/2004 13:01

Morning All,

Wonder if there will be anyone around here today. What a quiet weekend - after Secur starting a new thread for us as well. Unless of course everyone else is away having babies??

Not a lot happening with me - lots of twinges/pain/aches etc. but I have no idea if any of them mean anything or not. But my boobs are starting to get bigger and tingle - maybe I will fill those 36H nursing bras after all!! Can't believe only 2 days until EDD....

Karen - I have to admit to not even thinking about where I am going or how far away it is - DH was commenting last night that perhaps a shopping trip to Glasgow with DD on my own that I thought I might do today wasn't the best plan!

Okay hope you guys all have a nice bank holiday and I'll catch up later.

Cheers

rolymo · 05/06/2004 16:02

I've heard that skara may not have managed to hold on until June... hopefully she'll post soon.

monkeygirl · 05/06/2004 16:18

Skara - you sly old dog - I hope you are ok cos I know how desperate you were to get db out. Now I am soo excited and jealous - thanks for tipping us the wink rolymo.

karen - sounds like you made the right decision - I hope you at least had a nice evening in relaxing and managed to get a good sleep eventually (if any of us ever will again for several months!)

Gomez - I can't believe it's virtually your edd - hope those twinges get stronger although it's going to make me even more jealous. I know I'm only 38+3 but I have convinced myself that I would be 2 weeks early, I feel ready now and have even vacuumed the house again (twice in a month is v v good for me!). I'm on the verge of cleaning the bathroom again as well and dusting ffs - I don't dust.

Message for db - I have shaved my bits and legs, have washed my hair and packed my bags, I've done a big shop so have food in the house and have no-one reliable for next weekend yet to look after dd1. It ain't going to last so can you please come NOW!

Sorry, crazy rant over...

karen01 · 05/06/2004 19:17

Skara please post soon. Hope you and DB are ok. how exciting our first birth of thread.

Skara · 06/06/2004 10:44

Ooer, someone must know me in real life if they're hearing rumours like that

Proving my abilities to predict date and time and weight are completely useless, Jude was born at 8lb and half an ounce on Sunday 30th May, after a bizarre non-labour which started with waters breaking with a bit of meconium staining on Friday night at 2am. Midwife was confident everything was fine with the baby and I wanted to carry on with planned hb, so we filled the pool and waited...and waited...and waited...

Had very sporadic ctx all day, nowt much happening, took the children back from friends and put them in bed. I wondered if I wasn't labouring because I wanted them settled, but nothing happened still. Went for a walk round the block, had a bath and my midwife suggested I should go to bed and I'd probably wake up in labour. I did - contractions every 8 mins or so, so I put some more water in the pool, lit some candles and had something to eat. However by the time she'd arrived an hour or so later, it had died down again. Having not much water there, when she had a feel we agreed that what we thought was a head was starting to feel like a bottom...when I had another leak of water and a bit of fresh meconium came out we all started thinking maybe we'd better transfer in to hospital as that seemed another giveaway. I'd have been happy at home if everything was fine as my midwife is an expert in home breech births but as she said, if a breech isn't coming out, this is exactly what happens - labour just doesn't get going. So off we went, to a hospital where even though she's an independent midwife she can practice and so would carry on being my midwife. Drove in, having dropped off the children with friends, all very relaxed as still no contractions so I had a sleep in the car. Was feeling petrified cos hospital breech would mean a c/s and so had a little cry then decided I'd better be brave. Arrived at hospital, and another exam showed that it wasn't breech after all! So hooray, no c/s. As there'd been meconium and the waters had been gone for over 24 hours, we all agreed to an IV of antibiotics and a syntocinon drip to see if that would push me into labour as something was stopping it from happening. Ironically as the iv anti-bs were going in, I started contractions every 5-10 mins! The drip was up for about an hour then taken down as my body had taken over - at this point I gave up on the TENS and went onto gas and air. I stood and squatted and leant over the bed, so even though I was in my worst nightmare (hospital!) I still managed a very active birth which is a huge plus and which made it very quick - just over 3 hours! 6 mins second stage, apgars of 8/10/10 and Jude was born, plastered in meconium and rather blue with the cord round his neck at 3.06 in the afternoon. He is gorgeous and looks like a mixture of our other boy and his sister. I stayed in overnight, having discussed coming straight home, as we wanted to just be completely sure there were no problems with Jude after the meconium but I got a room to myself, so even managed a bit of sleep!

Had a big debrief yesterday evening with my midwife, and we think that in retrospect everything points to possibly oligohydramnios (low amniotic fluid) starting at about 33 weeks, which is when I suddenly started feeling pretty crap and very negative about the pregnancy and chances of the HB coming off. When my waters broke it was just a trickle, and at no point in the labour did we get a gush of water so it would seem that might be the reason. Anyway, I'm happy that we transferred for all the right reasons and ecstatic with our gorgeous new boy!

Big big congratulations Skara - good job we didn't put money on who was first! Jude is a ovely name and sounded like not a bad labour, all told. Your MW sounds lovely.

Gomez is next on the list - fingers crossed.

Secur - if you look back at our recent previous posts about dhs/dps getting lucky then there's one more thing you can add to that concoction you're thinking of brewing up

No twinges here bytheway, sigh...
