Pregnancy after c section. how long?

Ds born by elcs is cureently 7.5months. Id like another fairly quickly (am 38......) and wonderingh if you should wait a certain time for healing etc?

Although it took two years ttc to get him, hes ebf and have no sign of a period.......

I think less than 6 months is not recommended, and then 18 months to 2 years is what is suggested, but it's not a hard and fast rule. I think you'd be fine factoring in the possible time to conceive.

EBF can give some protection against pregnancy for first 6-7 months so you may not find you conceive straightaway if you decide to start trying though. You don't need to wait for a period though but helps with determining future pregnancy from dates. (Disclaimer for others reading, don't rely on BF for contraception though!). I'd wait at least 18 months for healing. Will you plan a VBAC?

Honestly i don't know. Ds was bigvand breech hence elcs. Consultant said it went really well and no reason not to try for vbac next time. I healed extraordinarily well and quickly. In the last few weeks i was bloody terrified he would turn and i would have to give birth naturally (was breech the whole time so i had gone along thinking it would be elcs for months really. )

I have birth by EMCS nine months ago and am five weeks pregnant now. Like you, my age and length of time trying before meant that I didn't want to hang around. Good luck.

Good luck with it all and making the decision that is right for you. I'm sure you'll be supported either way and you'd have an opportunity to discuss options with your midwife/consultant once pregnant. I've seen lots of successful VBACs!

The risk of uterine rupture is very small and apparently only increases significantly if you're pregnant again less than 6 months after delivery. The risk of uterine rupture is greater anyway just from having had a section.

I'd crack on, if I were you. If you conceive immediately you'll have a year and a half between births, which will be okay. If it takes a while, then TTCing sooner rather than later is a good idea.

My DD took almost four years (including surgery and IVF) to conceive, born by EMCS, breastfed for a year and my periods returned ten months after giving birth. DD is now 20 months old and I'm 36 weeks pregnant with DC2 (natural conception and a huge, delightful shock). No medical professionals have been the least bit worried about the close-ish gap.

Ooh fuzzy how exciting!! How long ttc #2? Did you bf (and have no periods like me......)

18 months between births sounds better. I've not been on pregnancy and conception boards for ages. Im already excited!

I was told ideally wait a year. I think it varies between medical professionals and NHS trusts though tbh. If you didn't have any complications and have healed nicely (as far as you can tell) then do what you think is best, based on advice you receive. I'm planning on TTC once my nursling is a year, like I did with my first, though he was a vaginal birth. I carry my babies breech, I think they put it down to the fact that I have a bicornuate uterus. I didn't want a c section but we tried ECV and it failed (was successful with DS) so I felt I had no choice. They won't be able to do an ECV next time because I've had a cesarean. I figure they're going to cut the scar open again anyway so why wait years for it to heal and heal when it's going to have to start from scratch again.

Wow evil so you had a period and got pregnant straight away pretty much? I wish i could manage that soon.

Well then. That's two suggestions to crack on with it. On i shall crack. Once my bloody (no pun.....) AF turns up! I know i don't need a period but you know, with a ebf 7mo. We aren't at it often.....

Two periods, and then "hang on, aren't I due?" when I would have had a third - turned out to be pregnant. After so long being infertile it was the most enormous shock, and absolutely wonderful. I stopped breastfeeding when I did partly because DD lost interest but also because the IVF clinic recommended leaving six months between stopping feeding and starting treatment, and we wanted to crack on asap. Six months after stopping breastfeeding I was six months pregnant

Considering I have only one fallopian tube and severe endometriosis, it is something of a miracle. Although apparently pregnancy and breastfeeding can often be quite a good "cure" for endo-related infertility, which certainly seems to be the case for me. How ironic - cure your infertility by getting pregnant...

Mrsw28 just seen that you have a bicornuate uterus, I do too. Had a section as my DS was breech also.

Can I ask if you found conception difficult?
We Conceived DS easily, and have just started trying for #2. Had two miscarriages which I am starting to think are related to my uterus shape.

Obviously you don't need to answer, I realise it's a very personal question.

I did have periods although they didn't return for a few months. We decided I would stay off contraception and we would try as soon as muc scar was healed (which was early on as I had no complications and a swift recovery). I think I had conceived on the fourth cycle attempt.

Interesting to read that about endo as I have it as well. I also had a breech baby but no idea if it was down to my womb shape or not as mine was only picked up once I got to 9cm.

I waited until DD was 10 months (needed to get cracking due to age) before trying again and got pregnant within a couple of months. 21months gap and no problems with second csection

When I was discharged after my emcs with DS the MW recommended that I didn't get pregnant for a year for a bullet proof scar recovery.

Old, with both my pregnancies I worked out using dates when I was ovulating, told my DH that we were going to have sex every day (whether he liked it or not) and we fell pregnant the first cycle we tried both times. I think we are a good biochemical match/very fertile. I don't think my bicornuate uterus affects my fertility but both my pregnancies were nigh on identical, I was convinced I was having a boy the second time because of this. Baby stayed in the same position both pregnancies from around 16-20 weeks.

My periods returned around 7 months when DD stopped feeding so much at night. I completely stopped feeding at 9 months... Was pregnant the month after. No one has mentioned any issues with it but I see the consultant in a coupe of weeks.
I suggest you go for it!

As the surgeon was stitching me up during c section, he said it is recommended that I shouldn't get pregnant during the next 12 months.

You are close to the 12 month mark now so go for it!
