How you stay in dark over gender at 20 week scan?

Hi - I don't want tto know the gender of the bubs but have a keen eye.

How does this work?

Are they careful where they look?

Is it hard to tell if you can see a willy anyway?

I don't look at the screen. I just ask questions and usually ask to see certain bits that i am interested in.

They'll turn the screen away at the crucial points.

DS was clearly a boy though. Or a girl with a penis. They didn't point it out. We'd said we weren't bothered about knowing particularly and to just do the scan as normal. With dd, even though we wanted to know, they couldn't see.

The position of the baby and the sonographer turning the screen away promptly are the two best ways to keep you in the dark.

the sonogropher told us she was going to measure the femur and it would be obvious so if we didn't want to know then to look away.

Just tell them you don't want to find out. We were told to look away when we might see something.

Just tell them you don't want to know and they will turn the screen away from you at the relevant part of the scan

I'm currently pregnant with dc2. I don't know what I'm having and didn't with my first either.
I have had scans every other week through out this pregnancy (growth issues) and have never managed to see anything. I alway make sure I tell the sonographer at the beginning of each scan that I don't want to know. They tend to say they just won't even look down there.

We didn't find out with DS and had to ask specifically with DD. Although we had a very late growth scan with DS (4 days before he was born) and the sonographer asked if we knew and turned the screen away the whole time as she said it would be pretty obvious either way by then.

Just tell them you don't want to know, so they can tell you to look away, I couldn't see any signs of the sexes of my babies either on the screen or in the photos.

Bugger. I had a bet with myself that we'd get at least 10 helpful replies before the gleeful sex/gender corrections. I lost. Still, my bet on the reception of bubs stands.

Our area has a strong no info on sex policy until after 24 weeks when you can get a paid scan. So it is eminently possible not to show parents!

Maybe I am terrible at reading scans, but the sonography has shown me the relevant parts on scans (not just at 20 weeks, but also 28, 32, 34 and 36) and I just nod and smile, but I cannot tell what I am looking at!

I also have a keen eye. When being told and shown femur length (the between the legs shot) DH and I thought we could see girls bits. We didn't want to know so didn't ask for clarity.

My son is currently asleep on me. All is not what it seems and sonographers are good at disguising the bits! Just tell them you don't want to know.

Thanks for all this. hilarious some of it...gender/sex thing and "look away now" that will crack me up. Screen at foot bed and sonographer has a screen, so think that'll be us. Wardrobespierre I did wonder if can be that clear. If girl maybe we didn't see willy but if boy there you go :). we keep thinkign we will see it waving in the wind :D

We didn't want to find out and both came away from the 20 week scan convinced we saw boy parts waving in the wind. DD is with me feeding now. We were very convinced she would be a boy. Not always so easy to tell it seems.

so angle permitting, maybe clear may not. I don't want to know but it wont stop me from trying to see if rigth there!....curious.

KipT77 just shows you really depends doesn't it....hilarious WitteryTwittery ... last scan he was looking at the inside and was pointing out a black blob, saying theres a kidney....ok if you say so :) and theres the other that looks totally different...ok if you say so :)

We have twins and had a million scans. We couldn't tell (not even a guess).

Our local NHS policy is that they won't tell you so they just didn't mention it.
