Firstly I apologise if there has been hundreds of these threads. Don't think I have seen any recently. I have:

Secondhand travel system with carrycot
New car seat
Travel cot
2 packs maternity pads
2 boxes breast pads
2 packs size 1 nappies

Muslin squares
Assorted clothes (not too many but I think enough for a few days)
Play gym
Changing bag

Preordered compact stroller for holiday and to upgrade to once baby is too big for carrycot part of travel system

Hi I'm 29 weeks today so only just ahead of you. I know there are things I have probably forgotten but I'm hoping I've covered essentials. Have you bought anything yet? I started early to spread the cost.

Have you got any hats - warm/cotton/sun?
Sling ?

heaven I've bought minimal at the moment: a Sleepyhead, a grobag, a hat, vests, one sleepsuit. So I've got a bit to do . . . . . I think I'm still in denial

I went through about four packs of maternity pads. I'm not sure what is normal though? Also you'll need more nappies than that. I seem to remember getting through about 8 or so a day in the early days. My baby would shit ALL the time.

I have a few cotton hats in newborn from the next sale. Hoping they will fit. The moby wrap is a sling With nappies I'm not sure whether to buy more size 1s or get a couple of packs of size 2s? Also with maternity pads the ones I have are the thick ones but I have seen slimline in tesco. Am i likely to need more of the thick ones or do you think after 2 packs of them I may be able to use slimline? Guess work I suppose as everyone is different.

Plenty of thick maternity pads. You will want to change them often.

Well I got through maybe 3-5 thick pads a day initially. I guess after about 10-14 days I probably could have switched to the slimline ones? I hope that's helpful. I just remember having to buy more packs all the time after the birth and it was a hassle I didn't need! Of all the things that sticks out in my mind for some reason.

Cotton wool or wipes
Nappy rash cream incase
We had to rush out in the night for infacol and gripe water as ds had trapped wind. Will be buying it in advance this time round!

Are you breast or bottle feeding?
Nipple pads and lanolin cream for bf
Steamer/bottles etc if not.

I wanted to bf but also brought some bottles just incase it didn't happen and then I could express so dp could feed ds too.

If you're bottle feeding you need bottles and a steriliser. If you're breast feeding I'd still buy them anyway along with ready made milk. That's what I'm planning to do this time

Oh yes cotton wool! Good one harry. Also used loads of that. Nappy changes. Gunky eyes. Sticky nose. All need cotton wool.

I bought a ready made cow and gate pack of formula milk that came with sterilised teats in case of emergencies (planned to breast feed). It was a cheap, easy way to be prepared just in case rather than buying loads of stuff.

Oh I'll definitely buy some cotton wool then. I do have one pack of water wipes. Does anyone use them? As they are very expensive I don't know whether to stick with them or buy cheaper ones. I'll also stock up on more thick maternity pads.
I'm planning to breastfeed so I think I'll look for one of the packs of ready made formula lilybugg mentioned. I think I have seen them in my local boots.

I'm expecting dc3 and have narrowed it down to:

Nappies
Vests
Babygros
Wipes (cotton wool was a headache!)
Knitted cardigans
Breast pads (plenty)
Maternity pads (plenty)
Sling
Pram
Boobs
Lanolin for nipples

My friend who has a young baby has told me to stock up on scratch mitts and get a pair of baby nail clippers. She said her DD constantly had scratches on her face for the first few weeks as her nails were long and she'd accidentally scratch her own face. Not sure if that's unusual or not but scratch mitts are now definitely on my 'to buy' list!

I would say more pads, for early days I used two of the thick ones at a time, helped with sitting down.

Then the slimmer ones are Ok once bleeding starts to slow but you will be changing them often.

Have you got sheets for moses basket/carrycot mattress? I find the fitted ones easiest.

Vests, babygrows, cardis, hat, socks fir baby and what I call baby nighties but mothercare and John Lewis sell them as baby bundlers, they are the best for making night time nappy changes easier.

I have never had a raincover for a carseat... So I wouldn't say that is essential.

Umm comfy knickers for you and comfy pj's or nighties for after birth, leggings or yoga style are good.

Sorry dodgy link went wierd. Anyway m&s. John Lewis and mothercare all sell baby bundlers. They are fab, sleeves like a babygrow but bottom is just elasticated and you just shove it up to change nappy in night. No faffing with poppers.

That's about right.

As a guide I used around 10 nappies and 10 maternity pads a day at first. ( you don't want any infection. So would get some more probably. ( mine wore size 1 nappies the first 6 weeks, then reusable)

need more than one gro bag if using so you have one to use when other is being washed.

I'm 35 weeks and can't think of much to add to your list and posts above...

Socks
Cellular blankets for swaddling
And maybe a cosy blanket for the buggy/car seat.

Also if you are planning to BF (me too) maybe think about some button down jammies and rather than waste money on nursing tops just some baggy tops with a vest under will do the same job. Primark do stretchy vests that are really great for holding their shape for a couple pounds each. I wear one pretty much every day under my clothes but buying more for when baby arrives.

A baby bath might be good rather than a bath seat as will save you having to fill a whole bath and it's mobile so you could do it on the kitchen table or something to save your back.

Also a changing bag and mat might be handy - can't remember if you mentioned that already.

On the BF thing - I am deliberately not keeping any formula in the house as i don't want to be tempted.. Not sure if that's a good idea or not.

Oh forgot I mention - I've got 2 packs of stage 1 nappies and bought two boxes of stage 3. Wasn't sure how long babe would be in 2's so thought we'd stock up on 3 and just buy 2's if/when. Aldi had a deal on recently boxes of stages 1,2, 3's for around £5 odds. I think there is about 90 in a box.

George - i would def get stage 2. Stage 3 sizes are about 6-9+ months.

90 nappies at first would last around 1 week.

Thanks artandco - got the stage 3 cus I knew I would definitely use all of them and wasn't sure how many I would need of 2.. Will get a box next time I'm in. Was going by the weights on the boxes. Expecting baby to be about 8-9lbs. Can't remember what they are but it made sense to me at the time
