Baby clothes

So, I just found out newborn and 0-3 months are totally different Confused dopey haha.
So which are we supposed to buy?
What are you guys buying or what did you buy for your previous babies? I doubt I'll have a particularly small baby, as everybody in my family in the past has had large or largish average babies.

I bought 0-3 months because I was told to expect a large baby. He was 7lb12 and everything was too big for him and I had to buy newborn size

Oh god don't buy much at all, if you have family and friends they'll buy so much you'll only wear outfits once or twice before they grow out of them!
Get a pack of newborn s/s vests and a pack of newborn sleepsuits (preferably with folding cuffs, scratchy buggers) and wait til the visitors come before buying too much more.

I stupidly bought tiny baby which is for prems! I also had some newborn but it was all too small for my tall girl. She had to wear SCBU donated items until my mum went on rescue shopping trip for 0-3! Don't buy too much- you will be given loads :)

I thinj newborn and 0-3 can be the same thing, in some shops.

I bought newborn size. Ended up with a 6lb 7oz baby who needed tiny baby clothes!

Honestly I'd take a sleep suit in tiny, newborn and 0-3 to be on the safe side.

I only bought 2x 3pack sleepsuits in newborn and vests. If you need more after that you can pick up more once baby has arrived. Had no idea I was going to have an almost 10lb baby though so I didn't need any more new born stuff.

Both, I made the same mistake as you and thought newborn was a fad... DS was 8lb 11 and was in newborn for at least 2-3 weeks (which sounds like nothing but you want them to look nice!) and he was completely swamped by 0-3 initially. Asda and Sainsburys do nice, 100% cotton baby grows (and I'm a snob who was previously only buying organic cotton Hmm)

Don't worry too much. My girl was 10lb 5oz and still managed a couple of weeks in her newborn vests and sleepsuits.

Mine was 9lb11 and never fitted some of the things I bought. I managed to squeeze him into my favourite newborn Gap baby grow for the journey home!

He was in 0-1 (slightly bigger than newborn) for a week or so then in 0-3 for a month. Pretty much always a size bigger than his age. Still now (aged 2.5). M

Don't forget that all ships seems to size differently. Marks different to mothercare different to gap.

Thanks all, I am trying not to get carried away, I've got so many newborn clothes saved on my bookmarks right now it's ridiculous. Will definitely have to narrow it down.

I can't believe what a difference 1lb makes in the sizes all your babies fitted into.

It's also mad the difference in sizing for baby clothes generally, by shop.
I've found John Lewis to be on the small side, and Next to be a bit more generous.

I bought all newborn, ds arrived (all 10lb 6oz of him) and he fit in absolutely nothing.

Dp had to head off 30 mins after his birth to buy some 0-3 so my son wasn't living in nappies. All of my family had to return gifts for him they had bought... It was all good fun.

Get a few newborn bits, mothercare do up to 1 month which might be better, but don't go crazy in jojo like I did!

I packed up to 1 month and 0-3 months clothes as all babies in my family are big.

DS was born at a tiny 6lb6oz! Only one outfit didn't drown him so we put him in that and DH had to go to Tesco for an emergency new born clothes shop!

Loads of people have bought us clothes, but most is 0-3 or bigger so we've actually run out of clothes that fit him more than once.

DS was 7.3 and needed d tiny baby for the first week or his little legs got stuck in the big size he would scream. I wouldn't buy to many clothes to start with or if u do don't wash them and keep the tags and until you get home and sort any gifts. You will likely find u have loads of 0-3 and nothing else. I took lots back for bigger sizes and didn't have to buy a thing but coats for a year.

Such a tricky one. All the shops sizings are so different! My dd was in M&S 0-3 sleepsuits until 7 months and she quite a ahem big lass.
I would go for one pack of nb and one 0-3 and no doubt friends and fam will supply you with more!

Ii only brought 0-3 as all the kids in my family were big.
Except mine, 3kgs and dropped 2.5kg - he lived in vests for 6 weeks when he suddenly ballooned into 3-6month clothes.

Mac it took me ages to really get my head around how much difference a 1lb can make!

My daughter has only now gone in to 3-6 month sleep suits at 7 months. Has been in baggy 3-6 month clothes for a while because lots of people bought her that size for winter and I saw no sense in buying 0-3 on top of that. Bad mum! Blush

We had one lot of newborn and the rest 0-3 as we were told she would be big. Came out 7lb7 but it wasn't a prob having clothes that were too big for a while. We just wevt plain white body suits and sleepsuits and other people gave us going out stuff although she went out in the white stuff a lot as she would just sleep in her buggy in the beginning. We bought one or two things of colour after that but fortunately we got a lot of gifts in various sizes so as she grew there was a starter there.

It's strange how quick they grow as well. My son is in 6-9 month clothes at 5 months and has been for a while because he is a long baby but born he was short!

Maybe get 0-1months?

My daughter was born 6lb 11oz and she was in new born and 0-1 for over 3 months! She fit in tiny baby for over a month. I'd defiantely get some Newborn Smile

I had newborn for ds1, which didn't fit on the day he was born, so we had to go home for bigger ones. He was in 3-6 at a week old (not sure why as whilst big, he wasn't enormous). Everyone gave us newborn outfits...

Ds2 was 4lb 2, and whilst he needed preemie clothes which I had to order specially, he was ok (ish) in tiny baby for a few hours.

Id take an outfit in nb and 0-3, and get dp to bring in more of the right size once you know X

Some places (Mothercare? Next?) do 0-1 months. It does depend heavily on the shop though, I find M&S and Sainsbury's stuff a lot more generous. DD who is nearly 1 (and on the 75th centile so not tiny) was still in Sainsbury's 6-9 months until recently.

I agree with PP who say don't get too much. It's tempting to go mad but you will get given so much stuff you won't know what to do with it.

My dd was 8.8 at birth and was in newborn size til 5 weeks, and then another 5 in 0--1 month. Now she's an average weight 9 month old who is still in 3-6 months sleepsuits.

My DS was 6lb 1oz and was in tiny baby for a good few weeks then newborn until he was about 8 weeks old. I've found that whatever weight it said say for example up to 7lb....they fit in them quite a few 10lb bigger! But every baby is different just like my size 12 might look completely different to your size 12! I would take newborn and 0-3 and then if your baby ends up needing tiny baby someone can run out for you!

I have bought a mix of newborn, 0-1 and 0-3 - every recent baby on my side of the family has been in the 7-8lbs range with some of the boys being quite long. My DH is tall too so I do suspect our kid will be long.
