Breastfeeding in public

soon(ish) to be first time mum hoping to breastfeed. I was wondering more so in the UK do people really care about nursing in public as in strangers making comments or being asked to use the bathroom in a restaurant. Does this really happen nowadays?

Most of the tops I wear (except vests) are easier to pull up than to pull down. The necklines on my visible tops tend to be too small to easily wedge a breast through.

And yes to the clothes sandwich thing. Normal top up, vest down (v. easy if you buy a few breastfeeding vests with the sort of clip down strap), and away you go.

I fed my youngest everywhere.
I never had a funny look or a negative comment.

The only problem I ever had was people coming right up to me to touch him while I was feeding and me having to say erm he's feeding actually. Once I had to tell an old family friend to just step back unless he wanted to see my boob.

Loose tops and cardigans hide everything. Tbh I didn't worry about people seeing a bit of breast ( they can't see it because the baby is in front of it ) I just didn't want to expose my rolls of flab.

The first time I bf in public was in a male hairdressers with DP. I was nervous but baby was hungry and I thought "hey, if I can do it here, I can do it anywhere". If you're nervous they'll soon disappear.

Enjoy :)

Thinking back, I did have some clothes for BFing - one top, and a couple of dresses I made. It was great to be able to wear a dress on a baking summer day, and the top meant I could stay tucked in when it was freezing cold.

I fed everywhere and had no negativity. I had older ladies on one occasion in primark that wanted to see DS's face Hmm and weren't that bothered if that meant seeing boob too and one older man in sainsburys cafe who was clearing tables have a 5min conversation with me before he realised and scuttled off a bit embarrassed but wasn't rude or anything. They were the only two occasions anyone took any notice and I didn't cover up or be particularly discreet.

I've just seen a vid on FB of a woman using a BFing apron. They're massive!

I found when I first started breast feeding that watching myself do it sat inform of a mirror soon got me over any worries about flashing. Anyone sat across from me clearly weren't getting the eye full that I was worried about. I've also never had a rude word said about it just a lot of lovely old ladies congratulating me on it.
