I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I felt an fairly instant impact in that I felt better enough to try to eat and drink something. After a couple of days I was feeling less nausea and vomiting much less. But it didn't always take all nausea and vomiting away, just made it more manageable. Is it having any impact on your nausea/vomiting?

icklekid · 18/02/2016 01:19

cola the first couple of days combined with rest I felt significantly better however by day 3 I was still being very sick, very regularly. I've been taking it for 3 weeks and I still struggle to keep much down solids wise however it has stopped me vomiting all liquid straight away. I was in cycles of dehydration which is obviously dangerous but is now managed. I've also stopped eating much (1 piece of toast breakfast, small amount of soup for lunch and occasionally snack on crisps/crackers ) which has helped most but as you can imagine I have very little energy and am signed off work!

Colabottle10 · 18/02/2016 07:35

Hmmm. I woke in the night with an awful headache that's still lingering, which I've read is a common side effect. Can't cope with sickness and headaches!

LucindaE · 18/02/2016 08:14

Colabottle Oh dear, that isn't good. Is it like a migraine headache? People prone to migraine type headaches seem to get them more on it, as you've researched. If you've been retaining liquids, I suppose it wouldn't be a dehydration headache (I always found it hard to distignuish between the two)? Might be worth phoning the surgery for advice if it's really bad?
Reebok Did you say that you get headaches from the Ondansetron?
I've been wondering how you are, having to cope with poor LO ill a lot recently, and OH not helping out as much as he might.
Waves to eallison icklekid and I hope everyone with appointments today gets a successful result.

My husband is home from work today thankfully. Dr. McDreamy gave me prochlorperazine over the phone and made an emergency appt for this afternoon if I still can't keep anything down so I just hope it works.

I only got four hours sleep last night just up being sick over and over. Is that "normal"?

My DH also called perinatal mental health as I have bipolar disorder and he is worried about what this is doing to my mood since I can't keep meds down. I felt so bad last night with everyone asleep and me just dry heaving over and over. Morning isn't so bad for me just because it feels like the sleepless night is over.

amysmummy12345 · 18/02/2016 09:54

Hello all! Sorry for the radio silence! Totally lost track of things with half term etc... Well the good news is that my sickness has all but vanished!! I'm 24 weeks today and hopefully I've seen the back of this dreaded illness 😌 I feel like an actual human being again... My daughter thinks I've had some sort of brain transplant lol. Haven't had chance to read back, has there been any new babies?! Ruby has got to have had hers by now? Waves to everyone xxx

eallison88 · 18/02/2016 10:47

amys ruby has a little boy a few days ago. I'm so glad you're feeling better. There is a chance it may come back a bit towards the end - not to burst your bubble, but to warn you cos I was so upset when it did.

mrsamerican I'm glad you're husband is on the ball and supportive. Also glad you've got some meds; if they don't work, please don't be afraid to ask for the different ones. Fingers crossed they do tho!

colabottle commiserations on the headache. I do hope it eases.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 18/02/2016 11:33

Cola, I found bad headaches with ondansateon but it helped with the vomiting the most so take that to get it under control then cyclyzime, and have buccal so its worth trying different combos.
Amy's, lush news hope it stays like it for you :)
Mrsamerican, glad you've got meds, I'd go to the appointment this afternoon so you can have a check over and get your ketones checked as you may need fluids. Glad you've a supportive dh.
Special I hope your resting up!

3rd trimester at last, yay!

amysmummy12345 · 18/02/2016 14:38

How you doing icant ? Hope your admissions to hospital have settled a little? X

mrsamerican · 18/02/2016 16:24

Well Dr. McDreamy is not so dreamy anymore. After I walked all the way to my appointment, I was totally exhausted. He checked me and said I don't have enough signs of dehydration to worry (despite no weeing for a day and no fluid without vomiting for 3 days, and lost 4kg in 10 days) that only being 7weeks pg that I can't possibly have HG yet.

He then had the nerve to suggest that I try just having a teaspoon of fluid at the time. When I told him that just sucking a small ice cube and having water in my mouth started me vomiting even after taking the buccastem, his response was "well try dioralyte then." Apparently if I don't wee tonight or have another bad night, I can just haul my ass up there again for another pointless doctor appointment.

mrsamerican boo to dr mcdreamy poor show!

I got signed off for another week but told just to ring if still not well, I can't imagine that I will feel well enough but you never know I guess.

amysmum your post has given me hope that I might feel human again at some point. My toddler would definitely appreciate that!

MotherofPearl · 18/02/2016 17:06

MrsAmerican, this sounds like a doctor who is unfortunately very poorly informed about HG, which typically sets in between 4-6 weeks, and typically much earlier than normal MS. I guess you might not want to hear this but my very strong recommendation is to bypass your GP and go to A&E where you are more likely to be seen by a hospital consultant. In my experience (several hospital admissions earlier in this pregnancy), hospital consultants have a lot more experience treating HG than the average GP. Even better if you have an Early Pregnancy Unit at a nearby hospital. Some, like the one near me, allow you to self-refer. Others prefer you to come to them via A&E. Please don't wait to get worse. You deserve to be taken seriously, and to get professional treatment. Good luck and do keep us posted.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 18/02/2016 17:41

sorry for quietness, under the weather atm.

Sorry to hear that things are still difficult ... day by day, they do pass even at a snail's pace.

MotherofPearl · 18/02/2016 19:20

Meant to say that I'm so glad to hear of Amys massive improvement, that's great news.
Icant, happy that you're also in the 3rd trimester. We've come a long way since those early days, and I think you should get some kind of medal at the end of your pregnancy!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 18/02/2016 20:39

sorry don't mean to complain compared to the throes of HG Blush

eallison88 · 18/02/2016 21:59

icant I can't believe I missed you being in 3rd trimester... well done you! Home stretch :)

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 18/02/2016 22:51

Ah ladies I've had yet another eventful day. Had some bleeding since sat (quite normal for me this preg) and regular tightenings. Told midwife today who sent me to ante natal, had ctg and it picked up regular contractions so they then examined me and done a swab that sees if at risk of pre teem labour and it came back positive so waiting to hear if I need to be transferred but no beds or cots for premmie babys available in Wales so will be Bristol.
Had first lot of ouchy steeiods in my leg.
Mrsamerican, sorry to hear appointment went so rubbish!:( good advice from the others.

amysmummy12345 · 19/02/2016 00:26

Oh no icant hang on in there!!! Thanks mop it's amazing how quickly it's dissipated, but also scary how swiftly it could return so I'm making the most of it!!

icklekid · 19/02/2016 04:16

Oh gosh icant not really what you need right now I guess the only consolation is that you will be in the best place if you did go into labour pre term. Thinking of you Flowers

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 19/02/2016 05:07

Thank you Amy and ickle Flowers
Ickle - hope your not awake tthis early with vomiting? X

MadrigalElectromotive · 19/02/2016 05:25

Thinking of you Ican't. Hope they are able to stop the contractions. Thanks

icklekid · 19/02/2016 07:38

Well mainly up because I have a toddler who has decided 4-4.30 am is wake up time however I do vomit when I have to get out of bed! He does still nap twice a day to make up for it at 19 months though so at least I get rest...

LucindaE · 19/02/2016 09:01

ICan't Oh no, that is so worrying for you. I wonder what's going on now?
I so hope they can delay the labour for a while if it has started. What a nightmare for you.
mrsamerica You've had such good advice (from this thread, I mean, not from the ill informed GP) that I can't better it except to say did you ring the Pregnancy Sickness Support number for advice on getting meds? Sorry to appear to nag. Have you got the kesostix to check if you are becoming dehydrated yourself as he seems too 'relaxed' about it? You've an appointment this morning? I think you may need fluids very soon,as others say. For goodness sake, diarylte (never can spell that).
amysmummy I was wondering how you are. So glad you feel a lot better. For most sufferers things to get quite a lot better sometime during the second tri, and so comforting to those at the beginning to see evidence of it. So nice for DD.
ickklekid With any luck, you will get a lot better too. Sorry daughter loves to get up so early, that's exhausting when healthy, in fact, one f the most exhausting things about having toddlers.
OnceaMeer Sorry you don't feel good. I hope you feel a lot better soon. We miss you, of course, but you need a rest.
eallison Good advice as ever.
Madrigal How are things now? MotherofPearl I hope you've recovered from that exhausting day.
Reebok How are both you and LO now (I won't ask after OH as he frankly doesn't deserve it at the moment).
I've scrawled two names in such bad handwriting that even I can't read it

Hi everyone. Hope you're all having an ok day (or as OK as can be anyway).

Icant keeping everything crossed for you. Keep us posted.

Lucinda how's your finger now?

Sorry not to say hello to everyone individually -quickly posting whilst waiting for the kettle to boil!

mrsamerican · 19/02/2016 11:37

Hi everyone, thanks for the advice and help. My DH got me some ketostix and it was +4 last night. I kept taking the buccastem and only got sick a few times, so kept down a bit more and it's down to +2 this morning. I have developed a real aversion to liquids though, and I start gagging no matter what I sip on. DH made me this granita stuff and that helped.

GP only gave me enough buccastem for a couple of days though so will have to see. I can tell when it starts wearing off.
