Does anyone else hate being pregnant at Christmas???

Sorry but it sucks. I hate not being able to have a drink, not eat certain foods, being fat while everyone else is wearing sexy new outfits to the office party.

Was reading in a magazine how "at least you can be smug when you don't have a hangover" and "you can wind your friends up by telling them about their drunken antics". WTF?!! I spent the whole xmas party watching everyon getting merry and hating them for it. Add to that eating overcooked steak and not being able to have the prawn cocktail starter and i am feling well and truly pissed off!

PhoenixTheRedNoseReindeer · 16/12/2006 23:03

I intend to drink loads this year as i was 7 month pregnant last year

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 16/12/2006 23:05

I was pg last Christmas and the alcohol thing didn't bother me - the gestational diabetes did - do you have that? If not, that could be added to your list of "at leasts" - "at least you can eat your own bodyweight in selection packs"

jingleboobs · 16/12/2006 23:11

i found out a year ago today i was pg and had a very stresful xmas trying to get away wit not drinking im quite ashamed how much i drink to get thru our family xmas's

TEEstheCEEsontobejolly · 16/12/2006 23:16

I was breastfeeding last Xmas and Xmas 5 yrs ago so wasn't drinking abd I have to say I did miss the port. However with regard to being what you reer to as fat - i loved it. nev er felt as sexy as when I was pregnant. I felt complete, whole, sexy, comfortable and loved my bump massively and wore it proudly. What foods aren't you allowed that you want?

You're having a baby, it's a great anmd small chunk of your life, try and embrace it and be ahppy, it won't be forever.

Hope you manage to have a great Xmas, xx

PhoenixTheRedNoseReindeer · 16/12/2006 23:18

I agree i'm so paranoid about what i wear normally but when i was pg i couldn't care less, i had an excuse for looking fat i loved been pg just missed the christmas drinking.

Exactly. The one time you don't have tpo worry about having a little pot belly! How great is that. And people are so nice to you and you feel loved and special and noone makes you wash up and you can eat loads of turkey and stuffing and have extra bread sauce and cream AND custard witht eh xmas pud and noone bats an eyelid when you say yes to te micne pie and ask for a turkey sandwich and all thsi time you never move. Ohhhhhhhhhhh lovely! You can still have a glass of champagne, a g

oh no - how did that happen????
How rude, I wasn't even finished!
It's liek leaving a message on someones answerphone and being told "thank you for calling" when you are mid flow!

PhoenixTheRedNoseReindeer · 16/12/2006 23:25

Well said

TEEstheCEEsontobejolly · 16/12/2006 23:27

ahem

as I was saying - - you can have a glass of champagne, a glass of the the best wine they have, and a glass of port.

Eat for England!

autumnlover · 16/12/2006 23:37

i'm hating being pregnant as well this time of year - thats 2 christmas' now and this time round it really has pissed me off!

but i am going to a couple of glasses of mulled wine.

ProfYaffle · 16/12/2006 23:43

3 years ago I was pg with dd and massively resentful. This year I'm pg again but not that bothered, not sure why. Maybe it's because I'm not being as strict with the food rules this time round or now that I have a toddler I've come to terms with the death of my social life and no longer crave drunken antics.

Indigo77 · 17/12/2006 00:04

I was preg 3 Xmas's ago and really did relish watching my friends get drunk and taking note of their stupid behaviour to remind them the following day of what they'd got up to. It was fun. Plus I wasn't overly strict and did have the odd glass of red wine here and there (my pregnancy book told me to!) Watching people get drunk made me wonder what I must look like when I'm drunk and for a while I thought I'd never get drunk again and in fact though I drink now, I usualy stop after 2 or 3 drinks (a vast improvement) which I think is one of the best things I got out of pregnacy - besides DD of course and let's not forget an 'outy' belly button that wont return to it's formely 'inny' state...has anyone else had that?...changing the subject slightly

suedonim · 17/12/2006 00:08

I was pg at Xmas with all four dc and loved it! All that bonding with the baby in the manger and so on. Admittedly, the no alcohol rule hadn't been invented with the first three but I didn't drink a great deal anyway so it didn't make much difference really.

iwouldloveadollypleaseSanta · 17/12/2006 00:08

i was really heavily pg last christmas - too much so to travel to any family christmas, and dh was working. i spent all christmas eve and christmas day on my own..... I had a great time!! put your feet up, bring the tv guide and a plate closer, and just relax! who cares if for one christmas out of a possible 80+ you can't drink - SAY IT LOUD I'M PG AND PROUD

lollipopz · 17/12/2006 09:20

Hey this is my 3rd and the last twice i,ve managed to avoid christmas, however this time i,m due 2 days before, and its so stressful!! Cant make any plans incase something happens before then, and also hate the thought of ending up in hospital on christmas day away from my 2dds,
anyway i,ve still got a week to try and get thing moving along!!
have a lovely christmas all of you

LUCIA22 · 17/12/2006 14:10

This is my first pregnancy and generally I am loving it now that I am 20 weeks and past all the stressy stuff. I dont care that I am fat, theres a good excuse for it and dont drink alot anyway. I will be having the odd one but sure there is no harm in that. My problem is really the food, I am still eating prawns but really miss the stilton, smoked salmon, brie etc

I think I would miss the drink more in the summer, there is nothing like a few g&t's on a warm summers evening. Also it would be more difficult to find flattering clothes in the summer when everyone else is stripping.

BettySpaghetti · 17/12/2006 14:54

I was pregnant with DS 3 Christmas' ago but still in that thoroughly miserable stage of feeling sick 24 hrs a day, throwing up at random times of day and night and then getting sudden urges to eat specific things that had to be there and then, that instant, otherwise the urge would pass and you'd feel sick again!

The nausea combined with no alcohol and no soft unpasturised cheeses, peanuts etc meant it wasn't the best Christmas.

trixymalixy · 17/12/2006 15:57

Lucia,

you can eat smoked salmon if it has been frozen and then defrosted.

I'm planning to grill brie and stilton till it's bubbling so I can still have those too.

I'm no that bothered about the alcohol actually. I plan to have the odd glass of champagne or baileys!

PartridgeinaRustyBearTree · 17/12/2006 16:07

DS was due on the 22nd Dec & actually arrived on the 28th , so I had my parents here doing Christmas dinner etc & all I had to do was sit there & enjoy it as much as I could at 40+
With DD (born in Feb) it was much worse - 7 months odd, feeling big & tired, with a toddler, had PIL for Christmas.MIL specialises in coming in just as you've finished & asking if she can help....

Indith · 17/12/2006 16:37

The only part worrying me is that at 38+4 now I feel full after a fairly small platefull....how will I do my dinner justice? Come on baby, MW said you were a nice size get out here and leave mummy her tummy space!
