Please can I have some morning sickness sympathy?

I feel awful. I'm throwing up every couple of hours. I'm also so hungry, but gag every time I go into the kitchen and can't actually eat. I was prescribed avomine last week, but it just makes me sleepy and doesn't stop any sickness.

DH is lovely and is being very patient, but I'm fed up and have just had a cry to myself. How do people go through this twice?!

Avomine can take a bit to kick in and you must take it continuously to have the built up effect. What dose a re you taking?

Ah man! It sucks! You have my complete sympathies. I'm 13+5 and its beginning to ease now. Ride it out hun and hopefully it'll begin to feel better before long.

Oh sweetheart you have my full sympathy! Thankfully I am out the other side now LO is born but i am one of these crazy bitches that does it twice ( and I'm sick the full 9 months) so I know only too well how you feel.

How long have you been on your meds? IME it can take a while for them to start working properly. With that said only ondandestrone every really worked well for me.

I know it's hard to eat but honestly if you can try to force yourself to eat very little and very often as well as continue taking your meds then I promise you that you will feel better, if only marginally. It's a horrible cycle this sickness. You vomit because your stomach is empty, you eat and then you still vomit and the cycle continues. It sucks it really does.

Feel free to PM me sometime. I have many tips and suggestions you could try.

For all those feeling like shit.

I feel for you. I had this from 5 weeks to 18 weeks and avomine didn't help me either. I'm now 21 weeks and coming out of the other side a little bit now but I don't see how I could do it again.

I lived off ready salted crisps and lucozade!

You have my sympathy as I'm seriously contemplating ending this pregnancy because I can't cope with the constant nausea and sickness. Dr prescribed me buccastem today but it never worked for my migraines and am not surprised it hasn't worked for this.

Heading back to Drs tomorrow to talk through the options but it has me in tears regularly.

It's fucking horrendous.

Thank you for the sympathy. It has cheered me up a little. We've only told close family so it's a little lonely not being able to talk about it. I'm at 6 weeks today. So 6 more weeks of this to go!

I'm really sorry to hear about other people currently struggling. Colabottle - I'm really sorry its so bad for you.

Currently on 75mg of avomine. Went back to see a nurse practitioner today to ask for something else, and got a big lecture on how nothing else it appropriate for use in pregnancy. It was very patronising (and untrue - both me and DH work in healthcare). Left feeling very patronised and even more upset.

I like the albus oil tissue idea. Will buy some tomorrow. Have no idea how I'll cope back at work, where I deal with lots of strong smelling chemicals!

Complete sympathy here, 17 months of my life spent with morning sickness and whenever I get a sickness bug or bad hangover I wonder how I managed.

Main tips, her a toothpaste that helps with acid erosion as the constant acid on your teeth can wreck them.

I had a kids beach bucket which I took everywhere with me. Graze on food, eat what you fancy, you can worry about healthy eating another time. I snacked on cashew nuts, banana crisps, nice n spicy Nik naks, when I felt well enough I'd have a smoothie, it was the only way I could eat fruit.

Try changing the time you take your pregnancy vitamin, I know one person who started taking it at night and then geeky loads better during the day.

I used to crunch ice which would help. Also the only thing that made me hungry was the smell of window wash fluid in the car. I have been known to sit in the car on the drive spraying it whilst eating my tea just to get a meal down me.

The memories of it do fade and I think most people have spent their second pregnancy wondering why on earth they were daft enough to put themselves through it again, but it is worth it.

cola ask for ondandestrone. It's one of the stronger, better meds available. They are expensive mind so some GPs are reluctant to prescribe it so you may have to be a bit firm in asking. Explain how it is effecting your day to day life and that it needs controlling.

I was given it at the hospital when the doctor was told it was something like my 10th hospital admission. my GP then continued to prescribe it to me after I told him how much I had improved whilst taking them.

Have you all checked the hyperemesis threads on here?

It's horrific. I'm 13 +2 with twins. I've been signed off work since October (4 +3) and was bed ridden. I was honking at 2am this morning and also had nose bleeds whilst sick. I was prescribed cyclizine and I halved them and built up that way. I have survived on soup and mash with beans, lucozade.

Vicks vapour rub helps when I feel a heave coming on. Deep breathing and pinching the inside of my wrist. Plenty of water as it helps the sick come up and out easier.

Lots of sympathy - i seriously was thinking I'd made a terrible mistake... but am so grateful that mine has subsided now at 14 weeks to manageable levels. Hang in there and fingers crossed...
Tips - i found I needed drinks and food to be as cold as possible - think it also reduces their smell. Ate lots of frozen grapes and ice cream...
Also I had to restrict my mumsnet time on the phone when sat on sofa - the electronic screen seemed to make me feel worse but if I could close my eyes it helped and then when actually feeling marginally better to get out in fresh air... good luck... x

I've been there and had to change medication twice more until eventually had something that helped... I am just pregnant with my second and despite being sick already am hoping it isn't as bad as last time otherwise got 9 long months ahead...

I suffered horribly with "morning" sickness when pregnant ( morning my arse- all bloody day and lasted until 30 weeks ) so you get my sympathy.

Some good advice so far, I found keeping some plain cream crackers to hand and nibbling them through the day helped slightly. Also for me, brushing my teeth was making me throw up so the MW suggested wetting the brush with warm rather than cold water - and it worked.

Massive hugs OP and everyone else suffering- I know how you feel (currently 16w and sick like crazy with DC2). But you will get through it and it will all be worth it in the end (at least that's what I keep telling myself in my saner moments!)

Deepest sympathies coming your way...I'm 40+2 and threw up yesterday I thought it would have passed over by now. With dd I was sick till 6 months and with ds it passed at 5 months. This one is still 2-3 times a week. Sticking to plain foods helped me in the early weeks crisps, jacket potato, chips, just full on carbs really lol. Hope it passes soon for you

Big sympathy from here too am 13+2 with dc3 and getting evening sickness/nausea from around 4.30pm till early morning, am soo hungry but feel sick too, its exhausting, mainly surviving on dry toast/salted crisps very healthy......

Colabottle - yay a due date buddy! I understand the lonely feeling. How have you been this evening? I'm managed some forkfuls of noodles and some cashews and a whole glass of lemon squash! I'm feeling much better than I was at about 5pm. Have you got anyone to help you out cooking wise?

Thanks so much for the posts of support. In my half starved, teary state it really has helped cheer me up.

I managed a handful of chips and gravy as felt slightly better at 7pm. I then drank a whole bottle of lucazade not thinking about the caffeine and have had about 2 hrs sleep!

Managed some dry cornflakes this morning. I also took a banana to bed and had a bite whenever I woke up.

Fingers crossed for a better day for us all.

Can I just ask how the rest of you coped with work? I've had to take the last couple of days off, and the gp offered to sign me off, but I do like my job, and would like to go back soon.

It's a very much on your feet, hands on, technical/scientific job. No chance of working from home or sitting by a computer, sadly.

SpecialStains I'm lucky in that DH and I run our own business, and most of my part can be done from home. Have you mentioned anything to your boss yet? I guess it's still early days to be telling HR. Do you think your sickness will impact the work you do? It might be that if you are busy you will feel less ill?

I've just been to the drs and came out in tears. She was awful. As I was sat crying she asked me 'well what did you expect? Pregnant women feel sick, you've just got to deal with it!' I couldn't bloody believe it. She then tried to fob me off saying there wasn't anything to prescribe, luckily I'd printed off the list of drugs from the pregnancy sickness website. Eventually I came away with metoclopramide, so we will see. I've managed a packet of hula hoops.

Oh colabottle - I'm sorry you're gp appointment went so badly. It sounds like your gp as sympathetic as the nurse practitioner I saw yesterday! She didn't even do a urine dipstick, which dh insisted I do when he got home. Dh was a bit worried about the amount of ketones in my urine (which is related to burning fat) and suggested the ooh gp last night, but I've just been trying harder to eat which has helped with the sickness.

Well done on the packet of hula hoops! If there's nothing else you fancy, could you have another packet? I've found fruit (mainly Satsuma and melon) are easy to eat, and they've got lots of water in them. Are you getting enough fluids down you?

I've done so much better food wise today. I've taken the advice on this thread and have been eating very tiny amounts of food throughout the day. It's really helped. I feel so different to this time yesterday. Dh has said he'll go get me some vanilla ice cream and some ice pops in a bit! I'm almost looking forward to eating.

I have told work. I have to because of the dangerous substances I play with (known carcinogens and teratogens). I'm feeling so much better today that I'm going to try to go in tomorrow. It's the eating thing I'm worried about, because I can't have food or drink on my person and there's a lot of strong smells and gross sights. We'll see how it goes.

This baby better be incredibly cute! Really hope things pick up for you! Is this one your first too cola?
