anyone successfully requested a sweep at 39 weeks?

I know technically I could be pregnant another 3 weeks BUT I have been having pre/false labour for last couple of weeks. Little man is engaged and has been for a week now MW said she can just feel his chin. The.problem I now have is where he is sitting soooo low I cant wee properly which means as soon as I walk for longer than a few minutes my bladder.empties itself 😞 I cant do anything. Its a total loss of control so even a pad cant absorb it (tmi sorry)

I know in this area they don't routinely do sweeps until 41 weeks but tbh I cant be incontinent for another fortnight. Just wondered if anyone had successfully requested one in this area or somewhere with similar rules I'm in the southwest.

You would definitely get a sweep if you requested it where I am OP, although I appreciate different places have different guidelines etc. You are term. Can't see why you couldn't ask.

Waiting for midwife to call me back after clinic. I hope she will agree to it. 30 years old and wetting oneself is not a good look 😢

They wont do anything.
I am distraught. Was sobbing on the phone to them and they just said 'its not their policy' and its not forever! 😢

I'm 38+3 and getting one tomorrow, mainly because my 2 pervious babies were both 2 weeks overdue and my hospital don't like babies to go more than 7 days over now and also because when it's my due date my docs are shut most of the week between Xmas & new year.

Who did you speak to op? I had a sweep at 39 weeks- the community mw had said absolutely not as they didn't do them until 41 weeks but the registrar said my cervix was favourable so went ahead when i saw her for a final growth scan.

I spoke to my midwife who said to ring the ward. They were really rude. I explained everything and was so upset and she just said 'our policy is not until after 40 weeks'. With baby number 4 I had really bad spd and they did it at 39 weeks, tbh I'm more upset with this and they wont help me. I have emailed the supervisor of midwives at the hospital to see what they say. I was expecting them to at least check me over but they wont do that as have routine MW on Xmas eve. I dont know what else I can do?

I was about to post this question myself baba5, but spotted your post. I'm also in a miserable situation at 38 weeks with horrendous PGP so will be asking at my appointment tomorrow. I really hope you hear back quickly and get the answer you obviously need

Sooo. Just had a call from the supervisor of midwives and they are going to check me with view to sweep or poss induction. Going in at 6pm. Will update then.
Last pregnancy I had a sweep at 39 weeks due to spd/pgp. That they agreed to with no fuss at all! Amazes me how they change rules all the time by the feel of it. Will update when I get home later xx

You poor thing! If you get no joy at the hospital, try tenalady rather than a pad. Much more absorbent.

Hope it all goes ok. I nearly wept with joy when the registrar said she'd give me a sweep I was so sick of being pregnant with a toddler.

They did a sweep...not holding my hopes high though as not really favourable. They have also emailled a urologist who should call me tomoz. Fingers crossed please everyone. Its not the staying pregnant that worries me, though am desperate to meet him. Its being housebound that I cant stand!

That one did. But I have had them in previous pregnancies and they haven't. I wonder if it depends how favourable your cervix is? BUT at the time this evening it really really hurt but if it kick starts labour then I feel its worth it if that makes sense?

Sympathies...and well done you for persevering. I'm pretty desperate for a sweep earlier than 41 weeks (am 41+4 now) and they were quite rude and unhelpful so I gave up. Don't they understand how hard it is being heavily pregnant and being talked to so dismissively?

I dont know if the supervisor of MWs at mine is unique or if they are all lovely but maybe email them and see what they say?

Yes, i don't really understand their reticence - they even claimed it could cause problems to have a sweep before 41 weeks?! Think they were fobbing me off to be honest. I've given up chasing it, as I'll have a sweep on Saturday anyway and whenever I chase it I end up getting upset

I've just been to have a sweep (38+4 today) she couldn't do it my cervix hasn't softened enough. I'm 1cm dilated but could stay like that till I get induced. Really disappointed and fed up. But obviously means baby isn't ready to come yet. So even if your request is granted before 40 weeks doesn't necessarily mean they'll be able to do a proper sweep if your body's not ready x
