So last night OH bought home some mince pie icecream (I am 39+2 and need my treats!)

this: www.sainsburys.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=44&productId=681260&storeId=10151&krypto=6%2BT8Q7vjgYIU4wtiqUJtj9igxyO28SHeN3YzsIp4%2BDq0r60xn1gVk%2Fw2R5S%2BN6oicLfOFBda%2BKOA%0AzXMwvvOOaRh2tWuY8RQbDfgLiScX3nPiY1LoNDB7WsErQeIPFY9eLuGG0OyWXa4iiS5QcmYwuQ%3D%3D

which all seemed well and lovely but it tasted very strongly of brandy. Are you sure there's no alcohol in this? I asked OH. Nothing on the label, says he, but it does taste rather strong.

So we go and read the ingredients, and lo and behold we see brandy about half way down the list. I had only had 2 spoons, but I was really miffed. Shouldn't this be advertised more clearly on the label? There is nothing on the front or in the description to say it has alcohol in it.

Jesus! Helpful replies much?!

Op, I know exactly how you feel. I've decided not to drink anything, despite the 'in my day we used to drink however much' anecdotes. The midwife said they just cannot be sure how much is safe so best to abstain. So I do. Personal choice right? But at about 14 weeks, family member gave me a glass of alcohol free wine, which tasted very winey, and when I looked at the bottle it was actually 4% Hmmnot huge abv in the scheme of things, but more than abstaining! I had a little panic, spoke to some lovely friends who reassured me all would be fine. I guess that's what you were looking for here...

All will be fine, you won't have done any harm to your baby, and I agree that labelling could be clearer. Don't worry about being neurotic, you're doing a great job!

(I know i was abstaining but I'm having a dessert with amaretto in at my Christmas do- I think I might have been too reassured!)

M48294Y advice does definately have to be reasonable but there's much politer ways of saying things than some of the answers here.
I wonder if these people are this rude in real life or only on the Internet where no one knows them.

OP - There is a legal requirement to label foods with alcohol in where the level has the slightest chance of being harmful to health (for pregnant people for example) or has enough to be sold under the licensing act. The fact that this product isn't labelled as such suggests that it meets neither of those criteria and therefore eat the rest of the tub!
