Wondered how everyone was doing?

Im 28 weeks this week and getting bigger, although I get comments that Im doing well size wise for this many weeks. Having trouble bending down, still getting irritable at times and sudden total lack of energy, one minute fine next minute knackered. But some days I have loads of energy and I think I do too much these days. I sleep in the day if I can as I dont sleep well at night, keep waking up. Gone off food abit, cant eat big meals. Other than these couple of niggling things Im having a good pregnancy I would say. 12 weeks left doesnt sound a long time, it could be sooner if my first date turns out to be the correct one.

We have picked names now and have bought a few new baby clothes instead of it having all ds baby clothes.

Picked up a couple of nice maternity dresses at the weekend, one for £5.00 in H&M and one for a tenner in mothercare, both in the sales. Just dont know when Im going to really get the chance to wear them now with this rain.

Hope everyone is coming on as well as I am.

Tetley · 09/07/2002 12:08

I'm now 26 weeks - and feeling fairly large! Although I must say that this pregnancy has definately gone by quicker than my first one. I suppose that looking after a toddler means I don't get time to think much about anything else!!
I'm still being sick though - which I could really do without, but I'm just having to live with it.
I've definately got to the stage where I can't eat big meals - just little & often (chocolate & cakes feature heavily, I must admit!).

We too have chosen a name (as we know that it's a boy from the scan), although the poor thing is going to have to put up with all his brother's clothes (most of which have also been through 2 cousins too!!).

I'm off to shop now as I need something to wear for my brother-in-law's wedding, which is in about 4 weeks - I'm going to feel like a whale at that I'm sure!!

Joe1 · 09/07/2002 12:13

Tetley sorry you are still feeling sick, although I have been sick on and off still, I think heartburn sometimes is causing that for me.

I went to my cousins wedding a few weeks ago and felt slightly whale like. My cousin had to ask if I was pregnant though (he never listens to family news) as he thought I might have just put on some weight. I did have a lovely day though, ds was looked after and admired by all and I just sat down for most of the day. You should get something nice to wear with the sales on.

I think the weeks have gone quicker this time round, like you say having a toddler makes your day go alot quicker

Enid · 09/07/2002 12:44

27 weeks and feeling huge...impatient, with heartburn and morning sickness still. Not very tired, but have awful lower back pain which makes me feel 106 years old. Feeling emotionally quite cheerful, although have moments of worrying whether the jump from 1 to 2 is going to be hideous - it can't be as bad as 0-1 can it???

Convinced its a girl. Bought a cute outfit in BabyGap sale and my best friend gave me loads of nice trendy maternity wear so I've got lots of nice things to wear.

This week I have been mostly eating Green and Blacks Organic Chocolate Ice Cream. Well, at least its organic

Tetley · 09/07/2002 13:31

Joe1 - it's definately heartburn that causes my sickness. Sometimes the Gaviscon works, and sometimes it doesn't! It was the same in my last pregnancy, so I suppose I'm used to it

Enid - I'm sure that the transition from 1 to 2 is going to be much easier than 0 to 1 (I hope so anyway!!). At least we've got some idea of what to expect this time - it's just that we'll have a toddler to deal with at the same time....

Joe1 · 09/07/2002 16:24

I think Im having a girl too Enid. We will have to see.

Im so uncomfortable sometimes, Im sure this little one just rests on the outer part of my tummy and rests there like its in a hammock.

Tetley is there anything else you can take instead of Gaviscon? I had really bad heartburn last time, this time just now and again, and it didnt work for me at all, drunk gallons of it. I was going to ask for something different if it got as bad this time.

Enid · 09/07/2002 17:52

Gaviscon advance seems to work better than normal Gaviscon.

Throwing up Gaviscon is NOT recommended

tigermoth · 09/07/2002 19:16

Yes, I remember suffering from heartburn. It suddenly went in the last weeks of pregnancy. Hope this news is some small consolation.

Poor sick Enid many sympathies. Glad you've got some fab clothes to wear.

mears · 09/07/2002 20:48

Tetley - you can get your GP to prescribe Ranitidine which will help with the heartburn. If she won't do that for you ask your consultant.

jasper · 10/07/2002 13:17

agree with Mears. Ranitidine was the only thing which made a real difference to my severe heartburn with all 3 pregnancies. It was like a miracle cure.

Enid · 10/07/2002 13:58

ooh, ooh I want some. Will ask midwife tomorrow.

HRH · 10/07/2002 15:03

can anyone tell me at what stage I need to buy non-underwired bras? Is it a must?

pupuce · 10/07/2002 15:20

I don't think it's a must but I am pretty sure you are likely to find the wires uncomfortable when your breasts get quite big.
A BF bra will (always?) be wireless but they are VERY supportive - wider straps, etc

Also if you look/shop around you will see some secy design - they don't all need to be horrible !

Lucy123 · 10/07/2002 15:21

HRH - the nice lady in M&S told me that you shouldn't wear an underwired bra if your boobs are growing (i.e. pretty much the whole of pregnancy). I was gutted at the time as they had some lovely ones in the sale. Can't remember exactly why (they restrict circulation or something) but it made sense at the time and the bras I ended up buying were cheaper!

She also suggested I buy a size up and a cup size down (36C instead of 34D for example) so that you can use the other catches as you grow. And you can buy some reasonably attractive wide-strapped non-wired tent-sized bras nowadays - it's not that bad!

Bumblelion · 10/07/2002 15:34

I am sure not wearing under wired bras during pregnancy has something to do with the milk ducts.

Tetley · 10/07/2002 16:43

I was told that too - if you're planning on breast feeding then not to wear underwired bras whilst pregnant as the wire interferes with the development of the milk ducts. Don't know if this is true, or an old wives tale.....

Thanks for the tip on Rantidine for heartburn. I'll have to ask for some. Other than that I can definately recomend Gaviscon Advance rather than just normal Gaviscon, as Enid said. You can feel it soothing as it goes down!! Although if I'm feeling bad already it's sometimes a struggle to swallow the stuff as it's so thick.

MalmoMum · 11/07/2002 14:41

37 weeks and still wearing an underwired bra. I'm 36c or something at the moment and find them more comfortable. It's supposed to be a milk duct thing. My ds still breastfeeds, rather useful as the ultimate calmer since he has been in traction and tied to a bed. So I'm not worried about my ducts.

If you are aware of the potential problem then you can take the necessary action. You could mix and match the 2 types of bra to suit yourself.

PamT · 11/07/2002 14:43

Malmomum, how on earth do you breastfeed a child who is in traction whilst you are 37 weeks pregnant? I bet its like playing a game of twister on the bed!

Enid · 08/08/2002 09:44

Hi everyone, how are all those mums-to-be doing? Just a quicky to say that I'm 31 weeks now (single figures, hurrah!) with chronic indigestion, mood swings and I cry at everything. But on the plus side I haven't put on a huge amount of weight, don't have the hideous spots I had last time and I'm not too tired. Blood pressure has risen to a healthy 100/70 so feeling better in that respect. Off to the acupuncturist this morning to get some relief from bad hip pain. Bump is not huge according to midwife but baby seems to be growing well. I am finally feeling broody especially after spending yesterday with friends ds2 (6 weeks and the baby from heaven). STILL suffering with morning sickness and 'funny smell syndrome' but so used to it now it doesn't really bother me!

I'd love to hear about how all the other pg mumsnetters are getting on.

Hi Enid, I'm 27wks and really beginning to feel it this time. My ds is 1 in a fortnight and I'm working part-time, so compared to pregnancy no1 it's a very different experience! I too am on an emotional rollercoaster. Floods of tears at anything involving babies or young children. (not very convenient in my job as a reporter!!) Also my brain is suffering the unfortunate combination of postnatal and antenatal vagueness.....
However, I'm really excited about baby no2, I'm a lot more confident about the whole birth thing and the baby clothes etc are still out from last time! Hurrah for maternity leave in eight weeks time (much to the amusement of my colleagues who say I'm just back from last time....)

debster · 08/08/2002 13:57

Hi Enid

Snap - also 31 weeks. Posted on other thread but probably best you don't read it as I was only having a moan about how I'm not coping very well with pregancy this time round!

Queenie · 08/08/2002 14:19

Hi Enid - I'm 34 weeks today with acne and indigestion and heartburn and counting down. On the one hand can't wait on the other can if you know what I mean. DD (22 months) keeps me on the move so resting is not too easy. MIL & FIL already talking about visit - help!! At last antenatal Midwife wrote H/E which I am sure is head engaged but she never said anything to me so now I am slightly worried as I thought 2nd baby engaged later - better pack bags just in case.

Joe1 · 08/08/2002 14:20

Hi Enid, I too have posted on the other thread. Sorry you are still being sick, I havnt been sick for a few weeks now, but still off food generally.

Joe1 · 27/08/2002 17:11

How is everyone?

Sickness seems to be back under control, and appetite better on some days.

Not long for alot of us now, Im 35 weeks, although could come in three if it decides to go the the first date of 18th September, just hope its not late. Gosh it has come around quick. I have washed all the baby stuff, clothes, blankets etc. Thought I had better get my bag ready too, just in case, well it is half done. Still trying to get playroom decorated along with bathroom and hall. Its annoying we have to decorate everything at once when we are pregnant. Im sure it will all come together, hall may just have to wait a while.

Midwife was on holiday last week so saw doctor for check up and he says baby starting to move down although still floating, can I take that as a good sign do you think?
