33 weeks pg and have been thinking for a while about the name Serendipity for a girl. Is this just cruel and hormonal? Other two DDs have fairly normal names.

I suppose you could shorten it to Serena while shes at school?
Otherwise I wouldve called her 'Dippy' all the time. And probably bullied her. And I was a nerd!

Twiglett · 09/12/2006 19:26

that's a terribly pretentious name .. and its a word .. like calling her lucky ... please don't

VoodooKumquat · 09/12/2006 19:27

also the other two dd's would tease her...

itsazoohere · 09/12/2006 19:27

But I like the idea of calling her Dippy all the time! Seren is a lovely welsh name, like that as an abbreviation. So I'm not just hormonal?

YES YES YOU ARE JUST HORMONAL

ITS AN AWFUL IDEA!!!!

(was that a bit clearer)

heavenlyghosty · 09/12/2006 19:28

Dippy ... no, don't do it ...

myrrhthamoo · 09/12/2006 19:29

I think it may be a third child thing. I know a few people who have two children with fairly normal names - say, Jack and Sarah...and then along comes number 3 and suddenly it's Hepzibah or Ethelred or Cinnamon-Cupcake.

I'm not keen, tbh, I think it probably is a name destined for playground taunts.

itsazoohere · 09/12/2006 19:30

6yr dd likes Kitty Blue, but think that sounds like a porn star.

heavenlyghosty · 09/12/2006 19:31

Put the name down on the ground and walk backwards out of the room, do not try and pick it up again ... that's it, just walk away .... close the door .... good girl

myrrhthamoo · 09/12/2006 19:31

I know a Kitty - Kitty Jane, actually - and it suits her. Kitty Blue definitely sounds porn -star-ish.

Saturn74 · 09/12/2006 19:32

'Dipity' is so much nicer than 'Dippy', IMO!

Not at all keen on the name Serendipity - sorry.

SherlockLGJ · 09/12/2006 19:33

@ Ghosty

How are things down under ??

Twiglett · 09/12/2006 19:33

as an aside whenever I see the name 'Hepzibah' I always think that Beelzebub would make a good middle name

it just kind of rolls off the tongue

Hepzibah Beelzebub

heavenlyghosty · 09/12/2006 19:33

I know a Kitty too ... it suits her - but yes, Kitty Blue - no
Don't let a 6 year old name your child
My cousins named their younger brother Christopher Robin - he is 45 now and still hasn't forgiven them
My niece wanted to call the new baby either Pocahontas, Bambi or Benjamin Bunny ....
(they chose Benjamin in the end but left off the Bunny much to my niece's disgust)

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 09/12/2006 19:34

agree with twiggy - it's a word, like calling her coincidence or ectoplasm

myrrhthamoo · 09/12/2006 19:35

One of my midwives when I was having ds2 was called Hepzibah. They all called her Hep. Before I knew what it was short for I kept thinking "Hep...Cat? Like hey swingin' hep cat sixties films let's all smoke Gauloises and wear polo necks and berets."

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 09/12/2006 19:35

having said that I did used to work with a woman called Endurance

heavenlyghosty · 09/12/2006 19:35

NZ is still waiting for the Great NZ Summer LGJ ... 4 seasons in one day sort of thing ... hyperthermia AND sunburn all at once ...
Very strange country really.

Saturn74 · 09/12/2006 19:36

Now, 'ectoplasm' I love!

heavenlyghosty · 09/12/2006 19:36

PMSL at Ectoplasm

myrrhthamoo · 09/12/2006 19:36

Coincidence is quite cool - Coincidence Jones, like Capability Brown (well, it's not, but it is...you know? Oh I think I need some wine).

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 09/12/2006 19:36

I think it's a pretty name. But does the meaning of the word suit her?
"The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident".

Was there something lucky or unexpected about her conception?

Twiglett · 09/12/2006 19:37

Capability Brown .. Bloody Stupid Johnson

SherlockLGJ · 09/12/2006 19:38

Ghosty

Sounds just like Ireland.

Weather in Surrey is so much better than Dublin, insist to DM, that it would be prohibitive to move home, in truth I would miss the decent weather.

PartridgeinaRustyBearTree · 09/12/2006 19:45

DH thinks 'Salmonella' would be a lovely name for a girl
