I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Congrats Charlie!

Hope everyone else is coping? I'm glad you've been signed off again Reebok, keep resting up!

I'm not sure if all the exercising has flipped this baby or not Sad Next midwife appt is Monday so hopefully she can tell us. In the meantime I have to go to the clinic next Wednesday to discuss an ELCS and get my pre-meds etc. in prep for having one the following week Hmm

I am truly terrified at the thought but if it's best for the baby then it's best for the baby.

Meanwhile, the vomiting continues. Only once or twice a day thankfully but I'm SO ready for it to be over and for that horrid taste I've had in my mouth for over 8 months to be gone!!!

Hugs and Flowers to all!

shoopshoopsong · 16/12/2015 16:03

Congrats Charlie!

TwoDrifters you superstar you're doing so well, soon you'll have a wonderful reward, by whichever means necessary

MadrigalElectromotive · 16/12/2015 16:37

Congratulations Charlie!

I am having another bad day. I think cutting back the ondansetron too soon has triggered a relapse because I am really suffering again. Regret trying to cut it down but not much I can do about it now. Just feel vile and pretty depressed today. Sad

spandau1980 · 16/12/2015 16:42

I think you.ladies are mistaking recovery for the tablets working... I wouldn't try cutting back till at least 20 weeks...
The tablets didn't work for me so.im feeling my way through HG recovery haha ... I still feel sick most of the day can't eat what I want and struggle to drink still ...
Bad taste went for about a week but is back!!! Along with snot n phlegm and spit grrrrrr

Not a cold ... I hate it

Scan was a joy.. little one is fine
Yawning kicking drinking sucking thumb
I fell in love .. its took 20 weeks to feel this feeling but now I want my baby more than anything...

HG or not I'm half way yippee

Same to do again then I can hold my baby whilst eating as many meals and drinking as much water as I can hahaha it'll be like Xmas for me but in may ;)

Reebok all ok.?
I can't?
Shoop enjoy ur scan x

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 16/12/2015 19:08

In haste (sorry, busy few days)

reebok please please say you're not going back to work. Really, please don't take the risk. You really need to rest.

icant thinking of you. It can't be another clot, surely!?

corabell How do you get over HG? I am not sure it's all that easy sadly. Rest as much as you can. Give yoruself -time- more than anything else. Take meds if you can, really, they do make a considerable difference. Try to eat what you fancy; the baby really will take what he or she needs from you. The only thing that might help if you can is to take some of the water soluble vitamins, but strangely the docs don't seem to worry about that for a while.

charlie congrats on the blue flavour =) lovely to here scan went well. Same with spandau. Honestly once the baby is here, almost everyone finds that life totally turns around!

twodrifters hoping the baby is cooperating .... as shoop says, you're so close.

madrigal HG is so hard on the spirit as well as the body. Thinking of you.

amysmummy12345 · 16/12/2015 19:20

Hi all! reebok so glad you're not going in!! two I hope that baby has flipped like a little pancake! charlie congrats on your little boy! spandau so glad that scan went well!!!

lucinda hospital rang at 6pm tonight, THE REST OF THE RESULTS HAVE COME BACK CLEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😁😁😁 I'm overjoyed!! Xxxx

Reebok · 16/12/2015 19:32

Hi all sorry not to reply earlier. Journey to hospital has taken it out of me. Meerka don't worry. I'm signed off for the rest of term and will go back in Jan. Scan was fine but took a while as baby wouldn't cooperate. They said she's measuring a little big though so need to be tested for GD which I will be anyway at 28 weeks and may need extra scans. This pregnancy has been anything but simple. Roll on April.

Amys wonderful news! So pleased for you.

Spandau and Charlie congrats on the scans.

Icant always thinking of our star hg trooper!

Madrigal sorry about relapse. To be honest at almost 21 weeks I still can't cut down on meds. Stuck on 3 and I think I may be for a while.

Sorry to anyone overlooked. Another crappy day almost over. I feel sick.

LucindaE · 16/12/2015 19:43

amysmummy Hey, that has made my day! Grin Grin Flowers
Reebok Sorry you feel foul. So glad scan went well, and for spandau and Charlie too.
Ican't I hope all is OK, or as OK as things can be at the moment.
TwoDrifters Even if it does come to the op, you may be sure it'll be easier to handle than Hyperemesis, and you'll probably get more sympathy. The women I've known who've had them seemed to get over it really quickly.
Waves to Meerka MotherofPearl eallison and everyone.

Corabell I so agree with others that rest is the main thing, and it's not so easy to do.
Apologies if I've overlooked anyone. Back soon.

Hi ladies,

Just a quick question. I do not believe I have what you have but will be seeing the doctor on Monday and wondered if it's worth mentioning how I feel as I'm unsure what's normal and I don't want to suffer in silence.

I'm 9 weeks and from 6 weeks I have had all day (very intense come 18:00) nausea. I feel absolutely awful, can't interact much with my little girl which is then making me feel worse.

This week the intense nausea has ramped up and I feel dizzy with it. I understand these are common symptoms of pregnancy but it's 24/7, even when I wake in the night I feel it. I don't get the relief of being physically ill (I imagine this would help but maybe I'm being naive?)

Do any of you you suffer with just the nausea? Is it worth mentioning to my doc? I don't want to come across melodramatic but I've had this for weeks!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 16/12/2015 21:04

amy i am so so so pleased for you. Truly delighted. What an absolute weight off your mind!

reebok oh phew, I missed the post where you said you were signed off. Tbh I would have been very worried if you tried to go back.

peyia welcome. There have been quite a few people whose nausea is incapacitating and brings their lives to a (temporary!) full stop. Sometimes they lose a lot of weight just because they -cannot- eat.

The main thing is liquid. Can you drink ? what you drink doesn't matter. Getting some drink down you is what's important, whether that's ice chips, flat cocacola, tinned peach juice or what.

Strongly suggest you check out the NICE link(s) Mother hen put in the first post about what you can expect from treatment and which meds can be given. THESE ARE CONSIDERED SAFE, CERTAINLY SAFER THAN GOING WITHOUT LIQUID. (some HCP's still are working from the 1960's when the meds were a lot less safe).

Suggest you ask for cyclizine first. It's quite good if you respond to it. Do try to get it now, because it can take the edge off the worst of the nausea / vomming. Sadly, the vomitting doesn't actually bring more than 30 seconds relief before the nausea returns, often :/

Also, rest as much as your little girl will let you. Is there any chance of part time child care? Really, rest does help.

Do post here whenever you need to, we all know what you're going through.

TwoDrifters · 16/12/2015 22:37

amysmummy THAT IS SUCH FANTASTIC NEWS!!! Grin Star

eallison88 · 17/12/2015 05:04

amys what wonderful news. One less thing to be worried about.

Charlie yay, team blue! Exciting!

peyia welcome. That sounds horrid. As onceameer says, stick around for understanding ears. Intense nausea is not a 'normal' pregnancy symptom, so definitely worth mentioning to doctor. Especially if it is limiting the fluid and food you are able to get in. Any fluids are better than nothing,so try not to worry too much about drinking the right stuff,or eating the right stuff for that matter. I have a veru healthy 11 week old who was 9lb,who thrived on a diet of mainly Fanta and tinned peaches for huge chunks of my pregnancy! Is a case if eating/drinking what you can when you can. Your little girl is unlikely to remember this in the long run,and you'll find that she's very adaptable. Many women here are pregnant with offset children, and we'll be able to offer more support and advice on that front than me (just the one baby).

spandau delighted scan went well and you were finally able to feel some excitement for this baby!

RubyReins · 17/12/2015 07:30

Glad that there has been some good news in the last few days! Great to hear.

Virus seems to have shifted although I did my Exorcist impression at the GTT yesterday with a bottle of lucozade... I did warn them that 410 ml of unpalatable fizzy pop would just bounce back up but they didn't believe me. Unlikely to get a valid result so looks as though I am consultant led again with all that entails. It was super fun last time... I have had it written in my notes that I will consent to another induction at some point between aliens landing and hell freezing over so I imagine, given how forceful and dismissive the staff were of me last time (what woman in her 30s doesn't mind being called a "silly girl"...?!) that my views will go down like a cup of cold sick.

Currently trying to schedule a flu jab. My GP surgery can offer me one on 9 Jan... Off to a supermarket pharmacy or similar. This stuff shouldn't be so difficult!

Off to court shortly too... This time next week I will be doing unpleasant things to turkeys and I can't wait. Shattered.

Hope everyone is faring well and so nice to read some positive stuff on here x

eallison88 · 17/12/2015 08:05

I said similar about being induced ruby. Well, same sentiment but didn't manage to phrase it quite so colourfully!! Stand your ground if that's what you want; they can't force you to do anything! And if anyone calls you silly girl then talk them thru the pregnancy you have gone thru, and then refuse to have that person near you again and insist on a different midwife /consultant. It infuriates me when our wishes are ignored/belittled, especially after the pregnancies we've battled thru. I was very, very lucky with my midwife and care.

eallison88 · 17/12/2015 08:07

Oh and reebok, I forgot to say, glad your scan went well. Loving the irony of a big baby (seriously, how are so many HG babies so big?!).

LucindaE · 17/12/2015 08:50

Peja Welcome. From what I've heard, it is possible to have Hyperemesis without the vomiting. Ceaseless nausea is awful. I don't think I can improve on OnceaMeer's excellent advice. Even without vomiting, it is a good idea to get kesostix to check that you are not becoming severely dehydrated (though if it goes on too long they cease to be a reliable measure). You will know anyway, from feeling so foul, often with headache, blurred vision, dry skin and mouth, and producing very little urine.
rubyreins I love your witty message, and having suffered an induction that led to complications, I so applaud your refusal to be induced.
I hope everyone is more or less coping today. How stupid of the people who did the test not to realise what must happen - if they had been any time in the job you think they would have come across someone with Hyperemesis before...

MotherofPearl · 17/12/2015 09:09

Morning All. Amys, I'm so so pleased to hear your good news! What a huge relief! Also nice to about the scans from Charlie, Reebok & Spandau. As Ealli says Reebok, it's so ironic about baby measuring big! I think these HG babies just guzzle up every ounce of nutrition from us, making themselves enormous and leaving us feeling like crap! My DS was 9lb 4oz, even though I vomited every single day of that pregnancy!!!
Ruby, I wonder if I could ask you more about your refusal to be induced? Because I'm over 40 I've been told I have to be induced at 39 weeks this time, and I've just blithely agreed. But now I'm worried! My other two were not induced (although both ended up being forceps deliveries anyway - seems I'm rubbish at pushing!).
Ealli, I ate a bowl of tinned peaches last night, which made me think of you!
I'm pretty sure I've not replied to everyone but my train is arriving at work so need to dash. Wishing everyone a reasonable day. X

eallison88 · 17/12/2015 10:23

MoP I hope the tinned peaches stayed down and helped a little!

Pebbles601 · 17/12/2015 11:21

Honestly I could cry! Sorry, I posted a few days ago about my unsympathetic GP. They just refused to sign me off. I am 14weeks and apparently HG should stop at 12..... Just like that! I got my dates mixed up and actually am not due to be signed off until Monday again. But GP said "Well you will probably be well enough then to go back to work!" I need to try on Monday and speak to a different GP even though I already requested to but they just got her to ring me again. I just don't understand why GPs are like this. She actually just said to me "There is probably something wrong then if you are still sick." How awful is that to say to a first time Mum? I have HG, that is what is wrong!!!! Sorry bit of a rant there Angry

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 17/12/2015 13:15

Both my babies were hefty too .... though the old one was in the bottom 5 percentile after about 3 weeks and has stayed there ever since. Entire family is short-arsed. Why couldn't they have been appropriately short coming out!?

pebbles your doctor is ignorant. Normal morning sickness dissipates at 12 weeks or so. HG does not. It starts to reduce between 14 and 22 weeks, usually. She needs to bloody well update herself - or learn it in the first place.

Is there any chance of finding another surgery? The Preg Sickness Support helpline above can be good. If you leave a message for them they will ring you back and Dr Tony there has a list of HG-aware doctors.

shoopshoopsong · 17/12/2015 13:47

Oh pebbles definitely find another surgery or out of hours doc to see someone else that doctor is ill informed and also an idiot for saying that. Also if you tell me where they are I'll go headbutt them Grin

Pebbles601 · 17/12/2015 14:26

What do the Preg Sickness Support do? I deal with 2 GPs who were ok prior to 12 wks. Though never tested me for Ketones etc. It just seems now they are like you should be fine, you aren't dehydrated etc. I am just amazed, is that not we are supposed to do, prevent it rather than get to crisis point? Yes it is being managed, but I am nauseaus zombine on meds lol. Shoop, I wish! Maybe a plan for when I am well haha!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 17/12/2015 14:35

The preg sickness support has a lot of advice about handling HG, including tips on eating and on what meds you can use ... take a look at the site =)

The helpline, well you can talk to people who have actually been through it and sometimes that really does help. I think they can actually assign someone who's been through it to be a buddy, if you would like that. The elderly doctor there is very experienced and very patient. He has co-written papers on HG and he has a list of Health care professionals who know about HG, unlike many HCP's (sadly). He was also willing to prescribe me ondansetron on the phone and send it out overseas to me. (he's a hero imo).

wht meds are you on? there are some that don't make you sleepy

Pebbles601 · 17/12/2015 14:53

Wow! He sounds great and understanding! I am on cyclizine, which just knocks me out but they have refused to give me anything else as they seem to be reducing the sickness. I think I will look into changing GP surgery. Just at the min, I can't think about anything except feeling sick & weak!

Peyia · 17/12/2015 16:07

Thanks once and eallison! It's good to just hear kind words. I did initially check the link on the front page but must not have looked properly because I couldn't see anything.

I've had to come home from work as I feel so bad!

How are you both? When did it pass or do you still have it?
