I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Chatty As in my post a bit below, and as sapndau says, do please go to the gp for meds. They will be safe. Also, do invest in some kestostix from a chemist (or online) for checking dehydration - accurate in the early stages of that at least. It must be incredibly hard coping with a baby or toddler.
Reebok No wonder you cried. What a horrible combination of pains. I hope you feel a little better today? Good luck at work.
Charlie Sorry ranatidine didn't work. This gastric by pass thing sounds awful - do they only recommend it in exceptional circumstances?
Sorry ranatidine not working. I hope they can find something that does.
spandau That sounds pretty bad, too.
Good luck amysmummy with scan, and good luck Iam with doctors.
Apologies if I've ignored anyone.

i believe that a gastric bypass can be very successful sometimes. An acquaintance had one done on the NHS after struggling with her weight for many years, partly for medical reasons. 2 years later she was unrecognisably slimmer and is fitter, healthier and certainly happier for it all round. Less knee problems too. Mind you, she had to change some eating habits too, but the medical team guided her through that.

CharlieHamer1985 · 30/11/2015 13:04

Lucinda - I needed to lose alot of weight and had tried all kinds of diets. They said polycystic ovaries cant be cured but managed and best way to do that is to control your weight. I went years having one or two periods a year. Then after that it went the other way where they were lasting 17 weeks a time on average. Its the best thing ive done as im now healthy, have much more confidents and i now get 5 day periods monthly.

Chatty i know what you mean with having a LO to chase after. My son is 9 months old and crawling. At 9 weeks i was so drained from weeks of not eating because of being sick so much and my OH works 8 til 8. Luckly je does nap twice a day somi would force myself to sleep whilst he was or i would put him in his cot or jumperoo with cbeebies on. Most of the anti sickness they gave me didnt make any difference. They change came for me at 10 weeks. I broke down in tears in the doctors office and told her i cant do this pregnancy because im struggling to do the most simple things and that im finding it hard to look after my son and feel like a bad parent for not giving him the attention i normally would. Thats wen she put me on ondanstron. It isnt a magic fix but has helped reduced the vomiting/gagging, allowing me to get some food and fluids down. I take the tablet before bed each day as they make me very drowsy and i cant afford to fall asleep home alone with LO. I have been on the lowest dose as wasnt keen on taking stuff wen pregnant. Im 18wks 2moro and it has improved so much. Is there any friends/family that can help u out?

CharlieHamer1985 · 30/11/2015 13:12

Wow Charlie you've done so well!!! Xx

CharlieHamer1985 · 30/11/2015 13:31

I really pray that by xmas day i am better! So want to be at that stage where i have an appetite and dont have to worry if im going to be sick. I really feel like ive put off so much social stuff the last 4.5months because of dealing with HG. Just want to get back to normal.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 30/11/2015 13:48

What an amazing transformation charlie , can I ask how they came to the decision to do it? (Personal question so I understand if you don't want to answer!) only asking as I'm a chronic yo-yo dieter, lose
Weight for it to come back on plus more I really struggle. The only thing that works for me is the hyperemisis diet!
How was the scan Amy? Will you see a midwife the same time? If so maybe she could dip your wee if you can't get in the Drs?
Glad a kind man gave you a seat reebok, they are very rare!
Spandau - I hope some good days come soon.

I'm struggling with sickness today but really hungry too, think I've got a
Serious case of the steroid munchies as I've not had an appetite in so long. Just had half a ton of soup and slice of bread so hoping it stays down.
Taking DS for his flu thing so dreading the walk to the Drs for that, think my PICC line is blocked and can't get it checked until weds so I'm hoping that maybe the nurse that does DS flu thing will unblock it for me fingers crossed. Highly unlikely though!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 30/11/2015 13:51

Charlie I didn't think about Xmas - I'll be 20 weeks then so hoping it won't be as bad. If not it'll be on top of the ondanstaron but that gives me awful headaches and constipation Confused

On a different note I read that ondanstaron constipation is a way of preparing us for labour - personally it's true for me - I didn't realise I was pushing DS I thought I was going to the loo Blush sorry for the tmi!

amysmummy12345 · 30/11/2015 13:59

Scans not until 3:30pm, getting anxious about it now 😞 from what I remember from last time it's just in and out with sonographer... X

CharlieHamer1985 · 30/11/2015 14:03

Icant- I had tried various diets for years. Then doctor gave me slimming tabs that supress your apppetite. They were helping as loss 3.5stone in a year but they put my blood pressure up so had to take me off them. So then they put me on tablets that absorb fat but they made me really sick. I then was refered to a surgeon as i had a high enough bmi and 2 exsisting health conditions. One of which was Polycystic ovaries and the other is i only had 1 functioning kidney so they were concerned the weight could put pressure on it. I was told to expect to wait for a year for surgery but it happened it 6 months. My health since has been great (with exception of hg in both pregnancies).

shoopshoopsong · 30/11/2015 14:52

Saw a GP today for more ondansetron and spoke about my depression too... She asked if I had tried excercising! I laughed. Nice thought, but I can barely stand up! Had to come and tell you all.. At least she didn't use the G word.

CharlieHamer1985 · 30/11/2015 15:18

Shoop -quite clearly they havent suffered from bad nausea and vomiting loads! If only u had the energy. On a bad day getting up and dressed feels like an achievement.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 30/11/2015 15:52

shoop what an absolute dick!! It's GPs like that make me nervous about approaching them about my depression. I've had the excersise thing off my midwife.
Hope you got the ondanstaron

MotherofPearl · 30/11/2015 16:39

Shoop, sorry about idiot GP, and sorry that you're still struggling with the depression. It's really not helpful when you raise this and then aren't taken seriously. Might your midwife be more helpful in referring you for specialist help, I wonder?
Amys, hope the scan went well?
I'm on day two of lowered Ondansetron dose. Just threw up about an hour ago, which is earlier than my traditional 5pm vom. I suppose this might be a one-off, or the result of only taking my first dose of the day at midday (which is normally when I take my second dose). Feeling exhausted today as had bad heartburn and insomnia last night. Moan moan moan!
Chatty, I really hope you'll do as Spandau and others suggest and get yourself some meds. They can help a lot.
Icant, glad that your appetite has returned! That must surely be a good sign.
Waves to Lucinda, Meer and everyone who I have rudely neglected.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 30/11/2015 16:48

shoop agreed, try the midwife. there has to be someone who will listen ...

MoP might it be the insomnia that was making the HG worse rather than missing a dose of ondan? Also, if you're not quite sure about missing a dose, is it possible to cut the tablet in half even?

iamdivergent · 30/11/2015 16:49

Just back from drs - he has move due onto prochlorperazine 5mg 3x per day - never heard of them and no info leaflet - goes off the Google!

amysmummy12345 · 30/11/2015 17:45

Hey all, scan didn't go so well, nuchal test measured 3.7mm which is over the 3.5mm guideline, so being referred for cvs test to determine if its down syndrome our some other complication 😓 feeling pretty heartbroken at the minute xxx

shoopshoopsong · 30/11/2015 17:52

Are you sure you are ready to decrease the dose MoP? I think I'm going to wait til there are no vomits

shoopshoopsong · 30/11/2015 17:54

So sorry x posted any so sorry about the scan, when will you hear about further tests?

iamdivergent · 30/11/2015 18:01

Oh amy don't know what to say xx

LucindaE · 30/11/2015 18:07

amysmummy I am so sorry, how heartbreaking for you. Did they give you any idea of what the risk of Downs is with that measurement? I hope they don't keep you waiting long, that's a horrible situation to be in.

OP posts:
amysmummy12345 · 30/11/2015 18:09

They took nuchal bloods while we were there and they've referred us to a consultant and the big city hospital near us will be in touch for the CVs test. There's a small risk of miscarriage with the CVs test but I feel like the more prepared we are the better... I've already read lots of positive stories about ladies with similar readings to mine xxx

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 30/11/2015 18:11

amys I'm so sorry to hear that :( I hope you get answers soon and everything is ok. I had the same with DS and turned out there was nothing wrong. Thinking of you Flowers
