I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Yes gd....gestational diabetes. Due to my ethnic origin I'm likely to get it if I take steroids so I said no.

shoopshoopsong · 29/11/2015 15:19

Hi all, have been quiet recently but reading the thread and thinking of you all. icant are you still at home?

Thanks for asking after me MoP the vomitting has got much better only about once a day now, but I can't say I'm feeling better unfortunately. Exhausted and fatigued and very depressed. Have been staying with my mum a few days now so have emotional support during the day as well as babysitting help. I can't parent properly at the moment. It's putting a massive strain on DH as everyone is asking him why I'm not better yet, and he feels helpless. It's really hard on our relationship. 23 weeks tomorrow I think, not sure how I'm going to make it.

PoppieD · 29/11/2015 16:10

Just wanted to say hello- am In week 9 and struggling so much, sick about 10 times a day at the moment- I just feel disgusting and drained all the time. I'm trying to look at it light heartedly and that at least I'll be used to having sick in my hair and down me when I've not made it to the loo in time! (Sorry tmi indeed!)

spandau1980 · 29/11/2015 16:58

Shoop.have you been offered a CPN !?
You need.one ... I'm worried about you.. more woman self harm after baby due to hormones pls pls pls ask your gp or midwife to refer you... thy are usually very lovely unjudgemental ladies and can save a life ...

Depression veteran ;)

shoopshoopsong · 29/11/2015 17:49

What is cpn spandau?

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 29/11/2015 18:06

HI poppie and welcome, congrats and commiserations!

Have you had any meds? there are some that are -safe- to take in preg and they can help quite a bit.

In haste - meerka

amysmummy12345 · 29/11/2015 18:13

Waves to poppie xx

squeezed · 29/11/2015 18:37

Shoop Your midwife can refer you quickly for support. They do speed things up when you're pregnant. I'm seeing a consultant tomorrow due to my previous depression. Even if it's just to talk it through, it may help. These pesky hormones make everything more difficult.

CharlieHamer1985 · 29/11/2015 18:40

Have been suffering more in the last 48hrs with ongoing acidy stomach and severe indegestion. Taking Rantidine and Rennies. Last nite it was so bad it was making me gag lots. Has been bad all day today constantly there) too and gets worse wen i attempt to eat anything.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 29/11/2015 18:42

Welcome Poppie sorry you've had to join the group :(
Reebok it sounds like a rough time, tiredness deffo makes things worse. I'm in same boat with OH working and just me & DS. I feel for you having work tomorrow :(
Shoop - been wondering how you are? It sounds pretty rough :( I agree with spandau and seeking a CPN, I was meant to see someone before discharge as its affecting me a lot and suprise suprise I've seen no one - but I'll be asking again this week. Just under a constant black cloud - I never realised the impact HG could have on mental health. (And I've worked in MH)

Sorry was just a quick pass through so not replied to everyone. Sickness not too bad today only about 3 times, just awful heartburn but not allowed my ranitidine/omeprazole all week until the gastroscope & biopsys Friday as they mask what's going on apparently? Sorry been quiet been quite down and just trying to rest as really want to avoid hospital before Thursday.

Always thinking of you all Flowers

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 29/11/2015 18:45

X posted with a few sorry - charlie that sounds rough :( can you try gaviscon? Though that can make some even more sick! How do Rennies work? I may try that some time.
squeezed I'm glad your consultant will see you and talk things through - it really helps.
How are you meerka? And little eallison?

spandau1980 · 29/11/2015 19:15

Shoop
A CPN is a community psychiatric nurse .. don't panic not as scary as it sounds it's just a nurse who specialises in that area.
A doc once said to me if you broke your leg you'd seek help correct? Same with the mind ...
Tbh didn't really need much after ds and dd birth but it was the safety net of having them there... I think that actually made me feel better if that makes sense. Not being alone.
I can't .. you ll have to push to see someone they are useless in Wales :(
I'm rooting for you every day missie. . Your a starStar
Charlie my reflux is actually the worst bit now.. I think if you had reflux prior preg it's 10 x worse when preg ... its making me feel sick with constant ache in stomach and like I have food stuck really making me feel low... I'm. Off to docs asap this week need some omeprazole .. rantidine ain't doing much ...

Reebok no wonder your knackered girl ! I'm amazed your still standing you have alot of inner strength :)

CharlieHamer1985 · 29/11/2015 19:18

Icant - Rennies sometimes help after food. I cant gaviscon down. I tried the tablets and liquids in all flavours and makes me sick. In my 1st pregnancy would have glass of milk but this time round i find sometimes i vomit after milk. Thats a tough gig not being able to have ur omperazole or ranitidine. I really hope they help get u better soon, seems like your really up against it. I feel thankfull im not being sick as much but acidy stomach is making me very uncomfy.

Spandau i didnt get it before pregnancy. Dr said my stomach maybe tempermental though coz i had gastric bypass surgery 5yrs ago. Wen its bad it hurts to move around or getting up from sitting down. Hopefully dr can give u something to help improve it, if not stop it.

LucindaE · 29/11/2015 19:21

Poppie Welcome. Never worry about tmi on here. Regurgitated foam, bowels, everything has to be discussed. Are you on meds? There are a good few ones with a long safety record you can take safely now to help the vomiting. You need to be with that level of vomiting. Also, have you got kestostix to check for dehydration? They do check reliably for it in the earlier stages though can show starvation more if it keeps on a long time. How are liquids staying down? Do you find flat coke, the juice of tinned fruit, ice lollies or jelly any use? Or maybe soda water?
shoop Sorry you feel traumatised. The advice from sapndau and others is so good I can't add to it. Re: people asking DH, he can tell people that you have a serious pregnancy illness called Hyperemesis, which is different from ordinary ms, and can take much longer to improve and while in most people it gets a lot better in the second tri, a lot still feel debilitated and ill for a long time.
Charlie I've heard there's a brilliant anti acid I didn't know of - is it
ranatadine - not sure if you can get it over the counter, but there does seem to be some good ones you can get for that terrible heartburn. It is dreadful and can make one vomit even when the Hyperemesis is on the wane.
spandau Good advice. Hope you soon have one of those longed for good days.
amysmummy Goodness, you're right. It must have been awful for her to have it so badly at a time when it was so misunderstood.
Reebok I hope the day got a bit better. I so agree about spandau's praise of your strength.
Ican't I'm glad it isn't quite as bad as it has been today. Most people would regard 'only' three times as pretty bad. I so agree with spandau and others, you are indeed a star.
OnceaMeer and eallison Waves.

I meant, too, to ask how squeezed is?

OP posts:
spandau1980 · 29/11/2015 20:43

Charlie I get it because I had my g bladder out in 2011... I was so ill after that op.i lost soich weight cos I couldn't eat and was having spasms.. I started on nexium which helped a lot changed my diet and avoided triggers ... just can't do that now I'm pregnant grrr

Gastric bypass sounds scary ... xx

CharlieHamer1985 · 29/11/2015 21:43

Spandau - first 6months after gastric bypass is hard as your body is getting use to a smaller stomach and digestive system as only use my small intestine now. I would regularly gag but cud rarely be sick. I was on omperazole for a few years. However that feels like a walk in the park to how hg and all this indegestion makes me feel. Surgery helped me lose 11st and sorted out polycystic ovaries. So im very great as it has allowed me to get pregnant twice now. I cant believe im almost half way through this pregnancy now
Lucinda im currently on ranitidine but not really helping so may see if they will let me try something else.

Reebok · 30/11/2015 07:34

Thanks for the praise ladies but I feel like I was being a big baby this weekend. Was in tears because I felt so unwell. The blocked nose is aggravating the phlegm I already have from hg making me more nauseous! Plus ear ache, sore throat and migraine being added into the mix and you have lots of tears! Can't take lemon and honey like I usually would for a cold as I can't keep it down. Barely slept again as I couldn't breathe.

That sucks about those of you with extra gastric problems. Icant hope you can take meds soon for it. Those of you struggling on ranitidine please get on omprazole ASAP. I honestly think that alongside ondansetron has saved me this time.

On way to work and wonderful man gave up his seat. Bless him! Noticed it's never the ones in suits! Ah 3 more weeks to get through. I can do it. And in 2 weeks and a few days I get to see my baby again!

Hope everyone has a better day x

CharlieHamer1985 · 30/11/2015 08:25

Hope you dont feel to awful at work Reebook. Totally know how you feel with regards to the cold/viral symptoms really didnt help! So nice its been gone for a few days now for me and my LO. My OH is coming to the end of it. Hope everyones day isnt too bad.

amysmummy12345 · 30/11/2015 08:43

Morning all, scan day today!!!!!!!!! Fingers crossed all is well, feeling nauseous and nervous today, wasn't sick at all yesterday which was a lovely bonus, when I'm not sick the nausea seems worse though 😌 on top of that I think I've got thrush and a water infection but gp can't get me in til weds 😠 going to keep ringing in case there's a cancellation.... Have a good day all xxx

iamdivergent · 30/11/2015 08:59

Good luck amysmummy

I'm about to phone and see if dr will renew meds again, as he won't add them onto repeat - wish me luck!

amysmummy12345 · 30/11/2015 09:04

Hope you get more of the good stuff iam xx

Chattycat78 · 30/11/2015 10:27

Hi guys, please can I moan? I feel awful today. I was sick during the night, then at least another 3 times so far today and I still feel really sick. Sad I have to spend the day running after my 10 month old when I just want to go to bed! I wouldn't mind if I could see an end to this but it could go on for weeks!! This sucks.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 30/11/2015 11:02

amys good luck with the scan! think you're doing the right thing ringing for a cancellation, UTIs when preg can be nasty.

chatty of course you can moan. Everyone does. HG is a complete bastard and people are sicker than they've ever been in their lives, often. Having a baby crawling around is a real extra stress. thinking of you!

good luck with the meds iam

reebok I'm glad someone was decent enough to give you their seat. 2 1/2 weeks must seem a loooong way away ... but it -will- pass

charlie that's a massive weight loss, congrats!

wishing everyone a quiet and surviveable day

spandau1980 · 30/11/2015 11:16

Chatty get to docs for some meds pls x
Charlie I'm so pls ed the surgery gave you babies despite the crap HG :)

Amy enjoy your scan

Felt 'ok' this am til bout half 10 where I was struggling to vomit ... it wouldn't go up.or down... really hurt my throat now
