pregnancy insomnia

I'm only just pregnant but have acquired raging insomnia in the last ten days. What's that about? Anyone else have this. I'm cream crackered!

I had this for the first trimester. Waking up every two hours or not being able to get to sleep at all. Plus having to wee every few hours! Once the uterus rises up out of your pelvis, towards the second trimester, things should get better for a while.

I've had it until recently (sorry 24 weeks). But I have started taking more iron recently and I'm wondering if it is /was connected. I'm also quite anxious about the pregnancy. A bath does seem to get me into a deep sleep for one good cycle at least. I hope it is a brief stage for you!

I'm glad it's not just me! I thought this was something you got towards the end of pregnancy. I've had it for the past few days and it's driving me mad. The last two nights I sprayed some lavender spray on my pillow which seemed to help a bit.....and it smells lovely.

Ooh lavender that's a good tip. The lack of sleep is giving me horrible headaches which then make me not sleep so it's becoming a vicious circle

It's horrible isn't it, I know your meant to listen to your body and nap when you get tired etc but I've found that makes my insomnia worse so I try not to now. Luckily I work full time so don't get a chance in the week but at the weekends I could sleep all day haha

In other news a small rant.
Pockets.
My maternity clothing has no bloody pockets! (Obviously as a pregnant person I never want to have a hankie on me for my snuffles).
BUT shopping for baby clothes today. Apparently my (when) newborn baby boy might need somewhere to stash his keys

Yup I got it first trimester and it's returned final trimester ..... Soon much fun with a three year old..... Next person who tells me to appreciate sleep before a newborn is getting chucked in a vat of mouldy coleslaw I swear

I checked into a hotel the other week for a work thing and on the pillow was a little 'sleep well' box, with an oil and a spray, promising a great night's sleep. I was so happy!

Until I read the box and it had a warning about not using during pregnancy! Teasing me, they were

I had it from the night before I found out I was pregnant until after my son was born. Hard work, nothing helped at all unfortunately. On the plus side I actually got more sleep once my son was born so possibly made having a baby a bit easier to deal with!

For some reassurance -

I couldn't sleep for the first 5 weeks of pregnancy.

Soon as the sixth + week hit, I'm sleeping like a baby again - it was the hormones messing with my sleep at the very start.

i feel your pain. i even got up at 4am the other day and just fired up the laptop to do some work. it drives me nuts because I'm sooooooooo tired all the time!!!

Is about 5am right now and I have been up for the last 1.5 hours due to insomnia,feeling abit frustrated as I really really want to sleep but can't!3 days in a row now!i am 37 weeks pregnant tomorrow.Feeling especially tired and emotional this week as well!i have suddenly notice my face is lot rounder and my double chin is more 'defined' now,And I can't see my once sexy collar bone anymore and I swear it was still there 2 weeks ago!!!!!!my arms suddenly got flabbier,new stretch marks on belly have surfaced,and my 'uh hum' desperately needs a good trim,I feel like a whale and not to mention those bags beneath my eyes and they are not even bloody designer!!!!!!Doesn't help when I have issues with a prestigious departmental store which send me a package and the goods I received looks like a ex display set!got on the phone with customer service and I was reduced to tears!!
I cried for the first time today in front of my husband and my husband,bless him,just hugged me tight and reassured me that I am beautiful(still felt shite!) but I think I just needed a hug.....
Oh,not to mention I am having this weird worry/phobia that my water will break anytime and destroy my beautiful new bed and mattress doesn't help matters because I am not about to sleep in a bath tub!!
I eyes look like a panda bear right now and not in a cute way!
Not sure why I am feeling like that at this stage of pregnancy and if it's 'normal'.

I got this both pregnancies. Try not to get anxious about it. Read a book and then listen to some hypnobirthing. This always helped me get back to sleep.

Rant away :-) if it's any consolation I'm also awake , 34 weeks here, DH is snoring , ds 1 who ended up with us due to another bee nightmare (don't ask lol) is snuggled into my back and doing cute 3 year old snores and since the bee incident at 2 am I have no chance of getting back to sleep

Trouble is lying awake means you stress about all the stuff in the day doesn't it?

39 weeks and wide awake! I'm booked for an induction next Friday due to gestational diabetes, and also being closely monitored for preeclampsia. I seem to spend most of my time at the hospital these days. I'm willing my waters to break (although I'm worried too about ruining my bed!). You can force labour to start through sheer determination, right?

Oh dear. 24 weeks here and awake since 3am. About half an hour to go till 3yo DS bounces into consciousness. For some reason naps and falling asleep at 8pm is fine, but staying asleep? Nope!

Ok so I am actually shock that's a reply to my post at this time?!?!?not being smug here but looks like insomnia hits all stages of pregnancy!!yes,Euri,probably same process repeats again tomorrow(joy!).am trying to get back to sleep but is amidst 6am now,is there any point?hey tootsie,I think I know what you are insinuating,sexy time is last thing on my mind although I have heard so much about it,saying how it would help.just don't feel remotely sexy at the moment ??

I'll be 11weeks pregnant by this Friday, since 2days now have not being sleeping at all,both night and day.. Is this normal or what the cause I didn't experience this in my first pregnancy, have being sleeping well beginning of the pregnancy,but this jst started, it making me feeling awful, have anyone experience it..

I suffered with insomnia throughout my first trimester. Biggest joke mother nature is playing on you - absolutely shattered and cannot stay asleep. Small things like having no light displays (alarm clock, tv light, phone etc) helped but not drastically. I started to sleep better around 13 weeks but it has since returned and I am 21 weeks. I'm now get tucked up in my pregnancy pillow and listening to hypnobirthing CDs until I fall asleep and some nights that has helped. Also just grabbing a nap when I can and being lazy when life allows it - naps on the couch at the weekend that sort of thing.

One of the wonderful things you never knew about pregnancy until it happens

I didn't suffer from insomnia at the early part of pregnancy,is really the later bit.mainly I think because Mother Nature getting your body ready for sleepless nights to come as you need up wake up to check on baby and feed them as well,at least that's what I read.
Also,as your belly gets bigger,is quite hard to turn side to side when you are in bed!not to mention the frequent trips to toilet doesn't help matters either but hey,all part and parcel of pregnancy ; )

Ok...Thanks very mch, am also suffering from lower back ache, it comes more painful during the night,can it also be the cause of it, is it advisable to request for sleeping pills or shld I jst leave it has it comes, when am I going 2 get my sleep bck... Feeling worried for myself and my baby
