get this kid out of me!!

I'm really clutching at straws - 40+3 - nothing is working. Baby still is really high up. 3/5 engaged. I had an attempted sweep yesterday but apparently it wasn't possible (my uterus js an impenetrable fortress) so midwife did a "cervical massage" (I have never heard of cervical massage - has anyone had one that brought on labour). I have another sweep booked for the 13th and induction booked for the 16th... Do not want to go this late.

I've tried everything .

  • i walked a mile yesterday (I know that's not that much but I have spd and swelling and I am just generally lazy)
-I've been drinking raspberry leaf tea like its going out of fashion -I ate a pineapple -I've been bouncing on a gym ball no stop since 7am this morning -i got the ol' boobies out and expressed a bit -Ive tried curries (not a big spicy food eater at all) -I've tried lunges - spd hindered this a fair bit. -tried dtd - impossible feat as I am sooo swollen. -Tried scary movies -Tried tear jerker's (apparently it relaxes your body when you cry...)

Does anyone have any (other) suggestions what so ever that might help. My reasons for wanting him out are I'm overdue and fed up but most importantly my DD has a school assembly this Friday!! (she's (yr1) and in a school play and is a main character... It will destroy her if we cant at least be there and my brother goes in place of us..

Help!!!

Flowers & Cake

Sad

They'll be here soon. Will it be an elcs?

Oh Double, you sound so glum.

Can I just confirm for the record, that NONE of the old wives' tales work. None of them. There's no evidence to back up any of them working. There's the odd theory like there being prostaglandins in sperm. Well yes, that's true but they aren't in sufficient quantity, the type of prostaglandin it contains is much better absorbed orally anyway (so the theory should tell you to stick it in your tea imo) and in all scientific testing, it's never, ever been shown to work.

Chemical induction is the only thing that works. The rest of it makes you feel demoralised, exhausted and sore and categorically, and does not start labour.

I am on a bit of a one woman crusade to stop people telling pregnant women that they have control over this and if they'd only do x or y unwanted and uncomfortable activity, they'll have a baby. It just doesn't work like that. What an anxious, vulnerable, tired and sore pregnant woman should do is whatever the fuck she likes.

Three days is a long time in late pregnancy (amen, huh?). There's every chance that your baby will come in that time. I really hope it happens naturally for you, in the next couple of hours and doesn't hurt at all. Smile

showofhands I completely agree with you, despite what my previous post could suggest. The info about eating 40 pineapple cores is so ridiculous that it renders it useless. It's impossible to eat 40 inedible pineapple cores. The dates though was from a study maybe two years old now, that found it to be the only indicator of a higher percentage of successful spontaneous labours, or something of the sort. The positioning thing is true though, if baby isn't in an optimal position and its big, it won't descend. But this isn't to do with starting labour but with good progress, which if there is an induction is paramount.
HOWEVER, it seems to me that it is all down to luck. So you are ultimately right.

ShowOfHands · 13/10/2015 18:54

Yes, the pineapple thing you quoted is a very good case in point. It's based on a theory. Because pineapples do contain an enzyme associated with labour starting so that's where the pineapple old wives' tale started presumably. You don't just need to eat the core either, you'd need the skin too. Grin But in reality, you physically couldn't ingest the volume of pineapple needed in one sitting in order to replicate the natural process. It's a bit like telling a heroin addict to get a hit from sniffing a poppy. Opium might come from poppies so there's a theoretical musing to be had there. In practice, it doesn't work like that.

It's always nice to start labour with a baby in an optimal position and I have no problem with optimal foetal positioning. I tried it desperately with both of mine. Went into labour spontaneously with two terribly positioned babies. That's luck for you. Grin

Had reduced movements yesterday, so after a lengthy ctg yesterday I was booked for another ctg today at 10am... When my consultant heard that I was going to be possibly left for two days more she was extremely angry and called me personally very quick to get me in and induced and baby out...

So here I am (please excuse my swollen excuse for feet trotters) about to be induced. I'm a bit anxious to say the least but I am very very comforted by the fact that I have one of the midwives who helped to deliver my twins. X hopefully wont be too long until I'm posting a piccy of my boy :D sooooooo excited!!!

Dare I ask....? Smile

Doublebubblebubble · 15/10/2015 22:23

Well...

The good news is that I am having contraction like pains, fairly regularly. (I have gas and air to hand but I have been advised that proper air is best at the moment Hmm - the pain!!)

The bad news is that I am still on the antenatal ward and am a whole 0 cms dilated!!!!! (and have had two full blown panic attacks followed by giggle fits during VE's)

I love gas and air so so excited to announce that our beautiful son was born at 11:26 this morning - 12 days overdue - via emergency c section (well, planned emergency) weighing in at an almighty 10lb 1oz!!!! - he was a bit grumpy to start but is a very happy, hungry, handsome and most importantly healthy little boy. Hs looks so much like his daddy it is unreal he is currently feeding at the moment and I can't take a piccy as I've no hands free -(dh has gone to get dd from school - so excited to see her - have missed her like mad. We are sooooo happy. Anyway, got to go I've got a very cute (massive baby to attend too) thanks for all of the support through this pregnancy xx
