get this kid out of me!!

I'm really clutching at straws - 40+3 - nothing is working. Baby still is really high up. 3/5 engaged. I had an attempted sweep yesterday but apparently it wasn't possible (my uterus js an impenetrable fortress) so midwife did a "cervical massage" (I have never heard of cervical massage - has anyone had one that brought on labour). I have another sweep booked for the 13th and induction booked for the 16th... Do not want to go this late.

I've tried everything .

  • i walked a mile yesterday (I know that's not that much but I have spd and swelling and I am just generally lazy)
-I've been drinking raspberry leaf tea like its going out of fashion -I ate a pineapple -I've been bouncing on a gym ball no stop since 7am this morning -i got the ol' boobies out and expressed a bit -Ive tried curries (not a big spicy food eater at all) -I've tried lunges - spd hindered this a fair bit. -tried dtd - impossible feat as I am sooo swollen. -Tried scary movies -Tried tear jerker's (apparently it relaxes your body when you cry...)

Does anyone have any (other) suggestions what so ever that might help. My reasons for wanting him out are I'm overdue and fed up but most importantly my DD has a school assembly this Friday!! (she's (yr1) and in a school play and is a main character... It will destroy her if we cant at least be there and my brother goes in place of us..

Help!!!

Can you not be induced? I lost my first at 31 weeks and since her stillbirth I've had another girl and am now 14 weeks pregnant. My consultant won't let me go over and I'm being induced at 38/39 weeks the same as last time. It certainly helped to ease my anxiety!

Shellybaby · 08/10/2015 17:26

Aww bless you I must admitt I had 2 failed sweeps and all they did was massage the cervix and booked me in to be induced at exactly 42 weeks but he came out at 42 weeks + 3 days after having the full works. But i Tryed everything like you going for walks, walking up and down the stairs, keeping myself busy by tidying up, eating pineapple chunks, eating spicy food etc.. I think it's all down to when they are ready they will come out x hope you get to see your little one soon and good luck xx

Babbafish · 08/10/2015 18:01

We DTD with all 3 in the morning and the came that night!!! Who cares if it's a mood killer ... Just do your job!!!! I was shouting it's only ever gonna be an exit if you don't enter and empty NOW!!!!
I also did some totally crazy walk.... Next lamp post .... Jog (-ish)... Next lamp post ... Walk visa Versa... Proved very entertaining for everyone driving past in thier car. Take 2 co-codamol before this activity if you have SPD !!! ( I learnt this the hard way with DS2)

Go to IKEA, walk miles looking for one particular thing. Be told its in the wrong place and walk miles back. Have a lie down in the bed dept and weep a bit. Go home empty handed. Waters will go early next morning, Baby should arrive in the evening.

mummymiles
I could've had a csec by now (I was offered by my consultant 3 times) but i am very stubborn and said no - I've got this not realising I would go over what a dum-dum*
I would quite like to do it as naturally as possible (ido have another sweep booked for 13th and induction for the 16th :S) I dont want to use any drugs other than gas and air (again I'm very stubborn) as i had to be induced for the twins and it wasn't the greatest experience in the world having all that intervention as well as losing them x Also I'm ver sorry for your loss too Flowers - its such a scary time being pregnant...

garden hahaha I would but I don't live anywhere near an Ikea (wish I did) need to get some paint so might waddle to b&q in the next few days and try to do the same thing...

every how did your consultant go?

Its dd's school performance tomorrow morning so I'm hoping I can be as dramatic as poosible/she is she has decided to become an actooooor you know (6) and have my waters break in front of all the children, parents and teachers :)

A curry worked with DS1, nipple tweaking with DS2 and I was in hospital with a lady who took some cod liver oil and within minutes was deep in labour. She didn't even have time to sort childcare for her DS so he had to come along to the hospital as well!

Diddlydokey · 09/10/2015 18:29

Any progress?

Doublebubblebubble · 09/10/2015 19:27

Diddly nope. Went for a fairly long walk again today and I've had chilli on everything I've eaten today (with the exception for my cereal). Haven't heard anything from Every for a while - I have my fingers crossed that its all over for her now xxx

Nope, still going over here Hmm

monkeyfacegrace · 09/10/2015 19:55

Wine and sex. Wine makes you relax. Honestly. Biiiiig glass of red!

Every1KnowsJeffTheJerkOlantern · 09/10/2015 19:58

Consultant ?

Not well. He seemed utterly convinced I shouldn't have the home birth we've been planning since the word go and told me 30 times we kept a tally that I will bleed to death if I go ahead and my baby will die because we have no neonatal facilities at home. He refused to give me another sweep. And he booked an induction for next Thursday which I'm not pleased about but have given in because I don't think this baby has any intention of arriving before then!

Doublebubblebubble · 09/10/2015 20:02

TMI

just did the horizontal wriggle --used the birthing ball to help and well that was a bust... Nothing (as of yet)... Come on hormones in sperm come on!!!!

Awwwww every I was getting really excited for you!!!

every well he seems nice and caring doesn't he...

I dont understand why you cant do it? Presumably you'd have a midwife with you during and are aware that if something were to go wrong you'd go straight to the hospital anyway.. Is it a placenta issue?? Can you not go to your actual midwife and get her to give you a sweep?? He's not the be all and end all of Drs is he xx

Every1KnowsJeffTheJerkOlantern · 09/10/2015 20:30

My midwife is fairly new in the job, I think she's nervous about not following the 'procedure' to the letter so I've had several tests and referrals back go the consultant for various reasons, all of which they haven't been concerned about.

Because its my fifth baby, there is a risk of post partum haemorrage but that is my only risk. There are things we can do to try to avoid it which I'm fine with but tbh there are first time mums who have pph's for no obvious reason, and yes, we would transfer immediately if there was a problem. We live 5 mins drive from our hospital.

My midwife is going to give me a sweep on tuesday. I already had one tuesday just gone but it was unsuccessful. Consultant just wouldn't give me another the bugger I really think they're trying to stop me staying at home.

Doublebubblebubble · 09/10/2015 20:50

Well I say boo to them. I get them erring on the side of caution maybe but they shouldn't force you to do anything that you dont want to do. X hopefully you'll go into labour in a minute soon and then there would be nothing they could do to stop you having your homebirth... X

Every1KnowsJeffTheJerkOlantern · 09/10/2015 21:07

I hope so too. Keeping my fingers crossed for us both!

Doublebubblebubble · 10/10/2015 15:10

Well I'm having some twinges... Not sure if it is anything exciting but its something. My mum made me a jacket potato with cheesey beans (she's round to help with DD and chores)..

Diddlydokey · 10/10/2015 15:56

Doublebubblebubble · 10/10/2015 16:07

OP... Where is that baby!!????!

Doublebubblebubble · 13/10/2015 06:51

Still in my blooming tum!!!!

I am having another sweep today at 10/10:30 (need to check my notes really...) really doubt this is going to happen without "proper" intervention which is giving me heart palpitations...

OP posts:
Doublebubblebubble · 13/10/2015 06:52

9 days overdue now!

OP posts:
Doublebubblebubble · 13/10/2015 12:37

Had another attempted stretch and sweep...cervix is really high and tightly closed. Looks like he's definitely going to be born on the 16th... Midwife pretty much guaranteed it. Came out of her office in tears!! I feel so dejected.

K2togm1 · 13/10/2015 15:37

Doublebubblebubble I feel your pain. Not sure if its been said before, but I read that for the pineapple thing to work you have to eat at least 40, and its not the bit you normally eat the one that helps, it's the core!! I also read that dried dates are good. Perhaps try stuffing yourself with dates?
Have you seen the website called spinningbabies? It's got an excercises called forward inversion, it's meant to help position baby optimally. If baby has engaged wrongly at 3/5ths then won't be able to descend anymore, so trying this inversion it's meant to help re-possition. Worth a try? All the best.
