Ok so I feel a bit silly asking this but my midwife said this week that as there is physically nowhere left for baby to go I could give birth early as this can happen with petite ladies (I'm 5 foot and 37 weeks)

Is this true for any short ladies out there? It does technically make sense but I also think it sounds silly but surely a midwife would know! Petite ladies let me know were you early or late?

I am 5ft 0, DS was overdue, I was taken in for induction which didn't work so had a section. He was 9lb 9oz so was probably for the best.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 04/10/2015 19:34

I'm 5'2. 39+3, 37 (induced due to low AF) and 39+3, DC4 due February.

2 of my friends both went a week over, 1 is 4'11, 1 is 5'. DSS was 10 days late and his DM is 4'10.

Impatientwino · 04/10/2015 19:34

My sister in law is 5ft and her baby didn't come early. My niece was born over 40 weeks but I'm not sure by how much.

BeautifulLiar · 04/10/2015 19:35

I'm 5 foot.

First baby - 5 days over and induced as he was so small

Second baby - only just two days over (12:14am!)

Third baby - due date

Ladypug · 04/10/2015 19:35

Ah ok so doesn't look like it's true then

5ft1...dd was 10 days late!

CrazySexyCool123 · 04/10/2015 19:38

5ft 2 - 1st was 10 days late (9lb9), 2nd 4 days late (8lb 6)

Dixiechick17 · 04/10/2015 19:38

I'm 5ft 1, I was as risk of going into early labour from 24 weeks due to issues with my cervix. Stopped my medication for this at 36 weeks, was 1cm dilated by 37 weeks and still went overdue by five days. Sorry.

Bishboshbash · 04/10/2015 19:40

I'm 5ft and DS was 16 days late!

FreeButtonBee · 04/10/2015 19:42

I got to 39 weeks with twins at 5 ft 3. It's amazing how far your skin can stretch

ApplesTheHare · 04/10/2015 19:42

Oh that's interesting. Two friends of mine both believe that petite women go into labour earlier and spent my pregnancy telling me DD would be early. I didn't really think anything of it but then she turned up at 38 weeks. The midwives didn't say anything about me being small (4ft 11, ended up having a 5lb 13 baby) but also all thought I'd go into labour early because of how low DD was by about 36/37 weeks.

To throw the theory totally out of the window, MIL is 5ft 1, and was overdue with both of hers!

Good luck either way! Flowers

winchester1 · 04/10/2015 19:42

I'm also 5ft dc1 was 5 days early and dc2 was on her due date.

HirplesWithHaggis · 04/10/2015 19:43

5 foot (and half an inch, as my mw insisted on pointing out! Grin ). DS1, gawd alone knows how late he was as due date was revised a couple of times, but at least a fortnight overdue, and induced. DS2, 19 days past due date, also induced. Both good weights - 7lb 12oz (bang on average) for ds1, 8lb 3oz with ds2.

Boosiehs · 04/10/2015 19:44

Bollocks. 5"2 and DS was 13 days late and 9lb11.

RandomMess · 04/10/2015 19:45

Load of bollock.

I was induced with all 4 of mine (I'm 5') wait to 17 days over with #2 and still didn't go into labour Sad

Be warned I also had notably large babies (didn't need any delivery assistance bar pain relief)...

5madthings · 04/10/2015 19:47

Bollocks I am 5 2 and all five of mine had to be induced as even waiting til three weeks overdue I didn't go into labour.

Smallest baby was 8lb, biggest was 10lb 13oz. With all pregnancies the Head engaged early, I think as I have long babies and they had to space wise. I always had a small neat bump, they were just squashed in!

blibblobblub · 04/10/2015 19:49

That sounds a bit weird to me.

I'm 5'1. DD was born bang on 41 weeks.

Mrsjayy · 04/10/2015 19:50

Im 4ft 11 i had mine early but i had other complications my gynae was talking about inducing me at 38weeks they did a hip measurement but thats a myth isnt it of course there is room all the women in my family are under 5ft 2 and i dont think anybody bar me and a cousin who had twins went early.

blibblobblub · 04/10/2015 19:50

Oh, she was only 7lb tho, just to balance out the bigger babies on here! Smile I did have a loooong labour though.

Diddlydokey · 04/10/2015 19:51

Well she's not wrong, you should be expecting your baby anytime from now but that's any pregnant woman.

Ahardmanisgoodtofind · 04/10/2015 19:52

Im 4"11 5 foot and went five over with ds,dd came right on her due date Grin

Mrsjayy · 04/10/2015 19:58

My 4ft 10 aunt had a 12lb 12 oz baby he was almost her height he was huge. Op next week you will be considered full term anyway

Rummikub · 04/10/2015 20:01

Hello similar height people Grin I went almost 2 weeks over with dc1, dc2 was 2 weeks early.

Ladypug · 04/10/2015 20:07

Ah ok well it looks like there isn't a correlation although it does make sense that if baby can't grow or develop any more it is ready. Did sound strange though. Not sure if she meant all petite ladies or specifically me as she had a good feel of baby and where it's positioned - sounded like a general thing though
