1st Trimester Diet?

brookeberry · 22/09/2015 16:52

I am the only one not being able to stomach veg right now?! Is everyone eating really healthily, or just what your body tells you to eat - for me it's potato and bread and all things pale . . . I'm eating some fruit, but I'm not sure it's the healthiest diet going (I was better before being pregnant). Should I just force the broccoli down (ugh!)? x

First trimester is very much eat what you can when you can. The baby needs very little from you at the moment. Eat what you fancy and doesn't make you feel sick. If you're worried you're not getting enough of something, top it up with vitamin supplements. I can't have milk so having plenty of calcium tablets instead.

thisisnow · 22/09/2015 17:18

I've eaten the worst I've ever eaten in my whole life, bacon sandwiches and super noodles most days. My doctor said not to worry just eat what your body tells you to. I miss my fruit and veg though!

Daffydil · 22/09/2015 17:21

First tri was all about chips and buttered toast for me. All fruit and veg was out completely. It just made me hurl.

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 22/09/2015 17:22

Oh no, hate to be all 'goody-two-shoes' about it but about the only thing I can stomach at the moment is veg! I'm literally obsessed with Morrison's Roast Vegetable pizza - honestly, in the freezer section, £1.50. It's amazing.

Totally gone off meat. And all I want to drink is juice.

But echoing what everyone else is saying - I think as long as you're managing to keep it down, it's all good!

Sezramum · 22/09/2015 18:38

I am normally good with fruit but I am struggling to eat it. The main things I can stomach are toast but only with Marmite or peanut butter, or scrambled eggs on toast. I do try an eat a proper meal at night with veg but I have to make myself eat it and don't really enjoy it at all at the moment. I also struggle to know what to cook for myself and DP in the evening as I just don't fancy anything which is quite hard when I also feel so hungry constantly!

I was quite pleased with myself today as I ate some melon! Grin

lljkk · 22/09/2015 18:44

chocolate, soda, salt and vinegar crisps, whatever I could choke down is what I ate.

Junosmum · 22/09/2015 18:52

first trimester was all about what I could keep down! I lost 8lbs, putting it back on now and a much healthier diet.

Junosmum · 22/09/2015 18:53

which is to say, don't worry!

brookeberry · 22/09/2015 18:55

Oh thank goodness! Just ate bread and crisps as my after work snack, and now I don't feel bad about it, hurrah!! Thanks all xx

I really wanted to eat healthily but I'm so tired all the time, I just eat shite. Carbs carbs carbs and then some more carbs. My midwife said it was ok though, whatever gets you through!

brookeberry · 22/09/2015 18:56

Juno, I've lost 4lbs and I'm certainly not trying to lose weight. I'm hungry all the time and certainly am eating, but maybe smaller portions. Thank you!

Mashed potato, baked beans, scrambled egg and weetabix. Tried other stuff but it generally didn't stay down. Managed mushrooms the other day but most fruit and veg is out of the question. Have eaten the occasional apple or orange. I can only drink water and sometimes a hot chocolate if I don't feel too queasy but that's recent since my nausea eased slightly. Don't worry about what you are eating. Just eat whatever you can stomach.

Pixi2 · 22/09/2015 18:58

For the first 5 months of both pregnancies I lived on 1 packet of crisps per day (eaten on a crisp per hour basis) and a diet coke. Plus pregnancy multi vitamins and folic acid. IMO if you can keep any food down you're doing just fine. I was ravenous, but struggled to keep water down.

brookeberry · 22/09/2015 18:58

Yes Twll, that's it, I'm so sleepy, I just want mashed potato at all times!

brookeberry · 22/09/2015 19:00

Oh Pixi, that's terrible! I've been sick, but I can still eat a lot of things. Heaven, you've just described my diet, except I'm on branflakes instead of Weetabix!

Nothing wrong with mashed potato. I try to have mine with cheese in for extra calories as I've lost 10lb.

Heavenscent86 · 22/09/2015 19:01

I'm glad to know someone has as inventive a diet as me!!

Mulligrubs · 22/09/2015 19:05

Up til about 16 weeks both times I could only eat rich tea biscuits, chips, toast and rice. Basically carbs. Fruit, veg and meat turned my stomach. I packed on the weight as the only time I didn't feel sick was when I was eating!

Then all of a sudden I wanted to eat lovely healthy things again and it didn't make me feel ill! Im 34 weeks now and surviving on whatever I fancy, but making a conscious effort to ear fruit, veg and meat as I am anaemic and on awful tablets which haven't helped (the anaemia most likely predated my pregnancy so my first tri diet didn't cause it or anything). Just eat what you can when you can.

brookeberry · 22/09/2015 19:06

I'm making my favourite right now - cheesy beano baked potato - bliss. x

I was beginning to think I was the only one who has put on weight Mulligrubs! I am the same, need to eat to stop the nausea but very picky about what I can eat. That hasn't stopped me putting on 7lbs so far and I am only 9+3!

TwllBach · 22/09/2015 19:41

I also haven't lost any weight. The only time I don't feel sick is when I'm eating. Today I ate an apple for my breakfast (same as most days - feel too sick in the mornings to stomach anything else) but then by lunch I'm ravenous so I had -

  • tuna pasta pot with an egg
  • salt and vinegar crisps
  • cheese and onion roll
  • dairy milk

For dinner i had cheese, beans and egg on toast. Then some more chocolate.

I'm really struggling to drink as well... Liquid makes me feel sick Sad

I'm so dehydrated my lips get chapped.

Heavenscent86 · 22/09/2015 19:43

I miss chocolate so much. And tea!

Heavenscent86 · 22/09/2015 19:45

Do you have ketostix Twll? If you are getting very dehydrated you need to make sure you are not getting high ketones. If you do it's important to get rehydrated at the hospital. I had to do that and felt so much better after.

TwllBach · 22/09/2015 20:07

Oh I don't know! I shall google. I'm drinking maybe 2 75cl bottles of liquid a day.

yeOldeTrout · 22/09/2015 21:38

I went lactose intolerant in my pregnancies. That wasn't much fun.
One pregnancy garlic made me sick, another pregnancy garlic was my mainstay (sigh).
