Labour around the corner? Lost mucus plug!

I am 38+4 with DS1 and very excited to meet him so just garnering some opinions really!

Yesterday I was so sick in the morning, puked my porridge up horribly! Along with the quite strong braxton hicks that have ramped up recently, I have also had the runs. Although tbf, I did have a curry last night so that could account for that!

Felt a bit periody earlier but not much. And then a couple of hours ago, I lost my mucus plug :-). So I'm happy things are progressing as they should. I know it could still be a while before labour starts but wondered about people's personal experiences with this! How long after you lost your mucus plug before labour started?

ooh I also had sex last night for the first time in a little while so wondered if that could have helped speed things along a little?

Aw sandgrown I really hope you're right! I have a feeling I'll be one of those that has to wait ages still though! :-/

My show went a few times (in chunks and it can regenerate) with DD (now 6) but when it went properly it was a huge amount of jelly... Ran around my mum's house showing everyone because I'd never seen anything like it at all!! My waters broke about an hour later and DD was born 4.5 hours later.

Have you given your midwife a call? Xx

RockerMummy184 · 20/09/2015 11:45

I've lost mine this morning. I also have a bit of tummy/back ache and have started having a few BH. I've made my husband take me on a drive down some bumpy/windy country lanes! Grin
I hope this is it, I'm soooo ready!
You had any movement yet?

Doublebubblebubble · 20/09/2015 11:49

Ooooh sounds good rockermummy and plonkie you sound well on your way!! Good luck girlies!! Xxx

plonkie · 20/09/2015 12:12

Oh how exciting rocker :-). Things seem to have ground to a halt for me except still losing bits of plug I think. Not as mivh as last night though, that was like a jelly fish (ha sorry tmi but lets face it, labour is gross!!).

Nope not rang midwife, it'll be a call straight to MAU when I'm sure it's labour. Want to stay at home as long as poss and only 5 mins down the road from hospital anyway :-).

Ugh I feel like nothing's going to happen today now!! Grrr

Bump again! More stories people please!

Since this morning I've had some strong braxton hicks but nothing regular. Bah.

I lost my mucus plug about two weeks before I went into labour. I spent two weeks with huge Braxton hicks (having to stop and breathe through, unable to move, all sorts) but then my waters broke naturally a couple of weeks later, and I went into active labour.

Either way, you are definitely getting closer. Good luck.

RockerMummy184 · 20/09/2015 17:32

I don't seem to be getting anywhere at the moment. Things are very much as they were earlier, but I didn't show any signs of going into labour at all with DS and was induced at 42 weeks so this is all exciting for me! Grin
I'm bouncing on my birthing ball like a crazy person! I'm hoping something progresses so I don't have to be induced again next week! The thought of having that drip again makes me feel ill.

Doublebubblebubble · 20/09/2015 18:41

plonkie is baby engaged do you know? If he's not get on all fours and try to lift your legs up behind you (kind of like a yoga position whose name escapes me) i know it doesn't work for everyone but raspberry leaf tea was a God send for me with DD and it really got her moving...

lauraa4 · 20/09/2015 18:48

plonkie I'm 39+4, had a sweep on Thursday, lost mucus plug just over 24 hours ago. I've been having period type pains on and off since Thursday but nothing else :(

I am booked in for another sweep on Wednesday (due date) so will let you know how I get on if anything happens before then!

plonkie · 20/09/2015 18:50

True mad woman, we're definitely getting closer (even if it does take bloody ages!). :-)

Rockermummy I feel your pain! I don't think I have enough energy to be bouncing up and down though!

Double, when I last saw midwife two weeks ago baby was starting to engage, was 4/5ths. It feels like he's engaged more now, more pressure, fanny daggers etc :-). Ooh I've not heard of raspberry leaf tea??

Hi Plonkie

Am due Tuesday this week, had show Thurs morning following sweep last weds. And on fri morning and this morning.....my 4th DC and have never have BH and was apparently 3 cm dilated on Weds but nothing as yet. MW comment was that it could be within 24 hours or take over a week. Helpful!

Bit bored now. Hope yours gets moving sooner.

Doublebubblebubble · 20/09/2015 21:07

Wow lost 3cms on Wednesday... I'd have been kicking down the doors of the mat unit tryign to get them to get the baby out... You must have the patience of a saint xx :)

plonkie · 20/09/2015 21:42

Ooh how exciting everyone, there's a few of us in a similar situation! I am so excited though, I just want it to happen now :-)

LostInMess · 20/09/2015 21:58

Have to say, double, I was rather expecting something to happen fairly soon after, especially with MW saying all seemed favourable and that I'd be admitted into a mat unit if I had contractions at 3 cm ....lots of dull achiness and then it all stopped. Then did it all again and then stopped. Still can't quite believe that I could stay at 3cm dilated for a week, but apparently so. Should really have known better, other 3 were all late. humph.

Going back to your original question though, plonkie, it did strike me that I should give you the slightly more encouraging tale of DC2's birth. 2 days late, show around 10 am, bit achy in the day but had a bit of an energy surge and got lots of last min Christmas shopping done (was early Dec - the most organised I've ever been!), then very mild contractions started around 6pm, baby born just after midnight and the easiest birth of them all. So something a bit more encouraging there!

The waiting's a killer though, isn't it?

Dixiechick17 · 20/09/2015 22:00

I had my sweep on a Wednesday followed by a bloody show, then on the Sunday morning a thick discharge streaked with blood and regular braxton hicks all day. About 11pm I timed the BH's for an hour an a half, started getting period type pain, waters started going at 1am and my DD had arrived by 7.17am :)

Dixiechick17 · 20/09/2015 22:01

I was also 3cm when I had the sweep. FX it'll be soon for all of you :D

LostInMess · 20/09/2015 22:12

You do realise now, dixie, that I shall be sitting up in bed drumming my fingers expectantly at 11pm.....

Dixiechick17 · 20/09/2015 22:15

Ha ha sorry lost, sending labour vibes your way :)

LostInMess · 20/09/2015 22:23

They are very welcome, thanks dixieSmile

plonkie · 20/09/2015 23:14

Aw thanks Dixie and Lost :-). I've loved being pregnant but yes, the waiting is a real killer! I'm so ready for this labour now. My body needs a break (ha! Unlikely it'll get one, what with breastfeeding and sleepless nights etc).
