Labour around the corner? Lost mucus plug!

I am 38+4 with DS1 and very excited to meet him so just garnering some opinions really!

Yesterday I was so sick in the morning, puked my porridge up horribly! Along with the quite strong braxton hicks that have ramped up recently, I have also had the runs. Although tbf, I did have a curry last night so that could account for that!

Felt a bit periody earlier but not much. And then a couple of hours ago, I lost my mucus plug :-). So I'm happy things are progressing as they should. I know it could still be a while before labour starts but wondered about people's personal experiences with this! How long after you lost your mucus plug before labour started?

Have sex again.
Worked for me.
Twice!

plonkie · 21/09/2015 00:20

Haha! Really InkleWinkle? That's interesting! I guess I'd best work on being a bit more alluring then. I'm sat here smearing cream all over my poor cracked and bleeding heels, wondering if my waters had broken... turns out I've just got a sweaty bum because I haven't moved in ages. Sexy!

Ergh....I'm awake, I'm pain.
They're not so bad I think I'm in actual labour and need to call anyone, but they're bad enough I can't get back to sleep.
Fingers crossed something happens! Can't be bothered with 2 weeks of slow labour (which the women in my family are notorious for!)

poocatcherchampion · 21/09/2015 05:40

Exciting guys! I'm rooting for you all.

Bit early for me as I'm only 32 weeks but awake, as you do...

plonkie · 21/09/2015 07:42

Ooh rocker! I haven't been to bloody sleep either. Just really achy tummy, period type pains. Baby very active as well. I feel so sick now too, just eaten porridge (breakfast of champions! ) and, once again, expecting it to make a reappearance.

I, too, so hope I haven't got two weeks of this. Argh sod that.

Thanks Poocatcher!

Any news ladies??? Xx

OffMyAyersRocker · 21/09/2015 10:56

Well my waters broke yesterday morning. Went into triage around 11.30, seen at 12.30, 0 cm dilated no regular pain. Dd2 born 4.30pm yesterday Shock

Good luck ladies, very exciting!

Doublebubblebubble · 21/09/2015 11:00

Wow!! Congratulations and Well done you!! Flowers
Hope you're enjoying your new DD!! Are you back at home now xx

plonkie · 21/09/2015 13:10

Congratulations OffMyAyersRocker!! That's amazing news! :-) how are you feeling?
No such luck for me, aside from an achy tum I have no further signs today that labour is on its way. Booooooo!

OffMyAyersRocker · 21/09/2015 14:12

Thanks, we have to stay in 24 hours but hopefully home this evening.

I hope it happens soon for you plonkie. Even though dd2 was early l was ready too and the waiting is really annoying!

LostInMess · 22/09/2015 07:40

Morning all.

And I woke with pains around 3am yesterday - came into birth centre at 6 am, 5 cm dilated, no progress by 10.30, so they broke my waters (same happened with my last birth) and bouncing DS2 arrived in the pool at 1.30. All very straightforward except that I managed to supersize him to 10lbs1oz so we've been kept in overnight to make sure that his blood sugar levels are ok. All seems fine though so hopefully off home today.

Good luck to those of you still waiting and congratulations to those of you enjoying newborns - they are at least all worth the wait once out the other side!

Dixiechick17 · 22/09/2015 10:22

Congratulations lost, that's an amazing weight!

so you followed the same amount of days from sweep to birth as me :) was worried I had got your hopes up ha ha, hope you get home today :)

plonkie · 22/09/2015 14:35

LostInMess that's fantastic news! Congratulations :-).
Also thanks for mentioning that they've kept him in re blood sugar as I'm apparently having a mahoosive baby too, so I'll be prepared for them keeping him in now :-).

In fact, just came back from my midwives appointment and I'm measuring 42cm and I'm only 39 weeks today. She just kept feeling my tummy and saying 'he's so big. He's just soooo big'. Er yes, I know. I can bloody tell! I've got to go for a growth scan tomorrow to check all ok.

All of these stories are making me very impatient for my little (err fuck off massive) one.

My mum keeps telling me to have sex. Stop saying sex mum!!

LostInMess · 22/09/2015 23:31

Thanks, ladies - yes, dixie, you were spot on! Back at home now, happy to say, all settling in nicely.

And good luck to all still waiting - plonkie, no one had mentioned his size throughout pregnancy (except
me!) and I was assured he was fine, so hope all is ok. He may have been on 90 something-th centile but head only 75th, so birth fine.

And I do hope your mum stops saying "sex" Grin

sandgrown · 23/09/2015 08:01

Congratulations lost and rocker. Hope things are moving for you Plonkie. Keep moving as much as you can . When I had DD1 I had a hotel so was working until about 6 hours before he appeared ( plus first baby and not sure I was in labour!)but the birth was very easy . Good Luck Smile

jurisane · 23/09/2015 16:32

Lost my plug yesterday and more than a little nervous. I'm only 35+5 today and was hoping to go at least three more weeks. Called the 24hour help nurse and she said I could go into labor in the next two weeks. Anyone go longer than two weeks after losing theirs? I've had no contractions and my waters are still intact--so that's good at least... Confused

plonkie · 24/09/2015 10:36

Sandgrown, I really should be moving more! I'm so knackered I'm mainly in bed or the bath at the mo :-/. Apart from keeping the house clean and tidy as I would be so mad if I went into labour with a messy house!

Jurisane, I've been doing LOADS of reading about this as I was so excited and there's lots of stories out there about women going over two weeks after losing their plug. All it really means is that your cervix is starting to dilate but it can stay partially dilated for quite a while with no other labour signs. Obviously in my situation, that's infuriating! But for yourself I can understand why you'd want a bit longer :-).

I've had more of a show yesterday as well, so I've kind of been losing mine over a few days. Interestingly it was after I'd had sex the night before again. So sex does seem the way to go for those of us wanting oyr babies here.

Just don't mention mucus plug just before you're planning on dtd. I've found it doesn't work as a seduction technique :-/.

WhingyNinja · 24/09/2015 11:09

Argh I feel your pain OP! I lost my plug over a week ago now and was instantly on my birthing ball like a woman possessed trying to get this cheeky madam out! The bugger does regenerate too and I lose mine every day now, the consistency has changed though (sorry if TMI - late pregnancy is pretty dire!)

Today is my due date and I am super sensitive to any aches I get, praying my waters go every time I stand up haha I just want her here now!

Am also laughing at people saying the midwife has passed comment on how large the baby is! "soooo big!" I know! I have to lug the monster around Grin

I was told the other day that mine "won't be a tiddler" and is very long, she is both 2/5 engaged and right in my ribs with her legs curled around near my back so I get both rib kicks and "fanny daggers!!"

Really hope things get moving for you soon, I feel like I am going to be pregnant forever! Sad but she will be so worth it when she does arrive, I just tell myself to be flattered at how much she loves her temporary home!

plonkie · 24/09/2015 15:29

Whingy you sound just like me! Aw I hope yours comes soon too. Due date today? Exciting!

Yep I feel like I'm going to be pregnant forever too. It might sound weird but I'm really looking forward to not only labour but the birth itself! It'll be such a nuts experience, and this is likely to be our only dc so it'll be a once in a lifetime experience.

Come on contractions! !!

OP posts:
WhingyNinja · 24/09/2015 18:36

It's all very exciting! Had some awful back ache and tummy ache today but keep telling myself it's nothing as don't want to get my hopes up! Any twinges for you at all?

Waters haven't broken yet despite me bouncing on my ball and going for a walk this afternoon so I am currently in bed waiting for DP to get home and rub my back and soothe me haha!

We are already talking about our second, we want her to have at least 1 sibling but let's see how I get on with this little one first and we can go from there!

I completely understand what you mean re looking forward to labour and birth, I think it's the eternal optimism of FTM's like us talking though! It'll be an incredible experience and I am so excited but also aware it's going to bloody hurt! Grin I'm ready! Let's get this show on the road!

plonkie · 24/09/2015 19:16

Hehe yep been having lots of twinges! Period type pain off and on and some back pain. I want them to progress into the real thing. I'm having stronger braxton hicks but I want a really bloody painful contraction! Come on!

OP posts:
lauraa4 · 24/09/2015 23:50

Well after my third sweep yesterday, yes third! Still no sign of baby :(

I had a bloody show this morning about 7am, and dull period type pains but nothing more than that.

plonkie · 25/09/2015 00:08

Three sweeps, blimey Laura! You must feel like a chimney! ;-).

You've got a couple of good signs there that labour might be round the corner, so fingers crossed. How many weeks are you?

OP posts:
lauraa4 · 25/09/2015 00:14
Grin

I'm 40 + 1, been having these period pains throughout the day on and off since my first sweep a week ago. They are very mild though, and not getting any worse so it's very frustrating.

I just want it to be over now, the pressure pains down below are getting worse!

MooleyWooleyShamaLamaDingDong · 25/09/2015 08:24

Hi ladies, thought I'd add my experience. With my first DD I lost my mucus plug over the course of a few weeks, had a sweep at 40 weeks. Nothing. Nada. Like some ladies here I also had the cramping etc but at 40+11, after absolutely no signs of her arriving, I was induced.

Currently 36+1 with DC2 and have been having strong Brixton hicks and cramping for about 2 weeks now. Hoping he comes early as I'm struggling with looking after a 2 year old and being mahoosive!!

Not trying to be the harbinger of doom, but the mucus plug can regenerate and is not always a sure sign that things will happen any time soon - although we live in hope Smile and every woman/pregnancy/experience is different. I was just bloody unlucky that she was content in my womb!!!

Fingers crossed Plonkie that things get moving soon for you. And good luck to everyone else waiting!!! Grin
