Labour around the corner? Lost mucus plug!

I am 38+4 with DS1 and very excited to meet him so just garnering some opinions really!

Yesterday I was so sick in the morning, puked my porridge up horribly! Along with the quite strong braxton hicks that have ramped up recently, I have also had the runs. Although tbf, I did have a curry last night so that could account for that!

Felt a bit periody earlier but not much. And then a couple of hours ago, I lost my mucus plug :-). So I'm happy things are progressing as they should. I know it could still be a while before labour starts but wondered about people's personal experiences with this! How long after you lost your mucus plug before labour started?

Hi Mooley! Isn't it strange how there's so many different experiences of labour! Hopefully it won't be such a long pregnancy for you this time though :-).
I think I'm like you last time, it's been pretty much a week since my plug first went but think it's regenerating itself and coming back out again. Yay! Haha.

I do feel very 'off' today, v nauseous and had the runs. But I've got excited about this before so not getting my hopes up!

I am worried about my waters going in public though. I'm carrying a bit of excess amniotic fluid and am concerned it's going to be a bit of a gush when they do. I've got to go in to town shortly so I think I'm going to arm myself with a secreted maternity pad. Just in case!!

Anything occurring ladies. I'm getting impatient for you lol

I've lost a bit of my show now (currently 38+5) I know it means nothing - see my previous post lol though I have been having period cramps...
Think it's all the jigging and fainting I've been doing lol x

lauraa4 · 25/09/2015 17:11

I've been having cramps on and off all day. After loss of bloody show early yesterday morning I've been experiencing a really watery discharge so having to use a pad...
Nothing else other than that though Hmm

plonkie · 26/09/2015 14:02

Bah, everything's ground to a halt for me!

Can I joing in? 39 weeks here, the whole of last week has just felt like something was going to happen, and never did. PMS symptoms, feeling like I'm about to start one heck of a period, cramps, loose bowels, nausea, BH, feeling his head right down. Then it all stops, driving me mad! Not to mention the mad mood swings that I've managed to avoid up to now - totally lost it a few days ago, because my partner hadn't turned on his psychic powers and offered to make dinner (I had said all day I'd make it, not like he was being a lazy arse). Now sat here with another bout of backache, hoping yelling at some rugby tonight will get things moving!

lauraa4 · 26/09/2015 14:34

missgentlybenevolent everything you have just described I experienced over the course of the last 24 hours. Woke up with cramps all day on and off yesterday, then last night about 7pm started getting what I thought was contractions every 5 or so minutes. Ended up in day assessment unit with reduced movements! Turns out everything is ok but midwife said what I was experiencing is very strong BH! Gutted :(

I didn't get to sleep until 5am this morning, they started up again about 12pm today but are so erratic. I'm so uncomfortable and in pain.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 26/09/2015 14:48

Aw laura, it's horrid isn't it? I was up most of Monday night with a horrible case of heartburn. I know that in itself isn't a symptom, but everytime that 'passed' or went back 'down', it caused a BH. So when it didn't feel like I was trying to vomit fire, it felt like he was on his was. Suffice to say, it was not a fun night. Hot baths and back rubs all around!

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 26/09/2015 14:49

That should be way, not was. Is losing a grasp on the English language a sign, because I've been having trouble with that as well Grin.

lauraa4 · 26/09/2015 14:53

I haven't experienced BH my entire pregnancy though which is why its so frustrating :(
I thought they were meant to be painless!? Like heck they are!

Doublebubblebubble · 26/09/2015 19:30

Has anyone been getting the dreaded fanny daggers?? I've lost a bit more show, had mad bh and now they're here. Hoping I'll have a few more days with baby inside of me as I keep saying I'm bored and ready for him but I'm not.. (I'm 38+6 - I'm being dramatic!! And scared now)

plonkie · 26/09/2015 20:21

Our bodies are so cruel! Conning us that it's going to happen. I'm going to be pregnant forever! Every twinge is potential labour!

Double- I've had fanny daggers throughout my whole pregnancy but I must say they've ramped up a gear recently. Kinda feels like someone's pinching my cervix with tweezers, dunno if its the same for you? Good signs I think!

I had a proper weird sensation in my back earlier, felt like someone had massive hands around my hips and back and was squeeeeezing. I was excited! Then it went.

Personal experience - period cramps and loss of plug = imminent labour. Contractions started about 4 hours after I started losing my plug

lauraa4 · 26/09/2015 21:17

Fanny daggers have become a regular fixture in my day to day life Grin

S2b16 · 27/09/2015 20:58

I lost my plug at 8am, labour pains started while out shopping around 10am, 5cm at 5pm, waters went at 11pm, baby arrived 01.10....dc3 and only baby where I'd lost my plug (or noticed it) it's amazing how different everyone's labour is.
Good luck to you all xx

plonkie · 29/09/2015 19:06

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for everyone's stories, it's insane how different we all are.

I wanted your thoughts on this- since waking this morning I have had a constant 'stitch' type pain in my left side. Kinda on a level with my belly button but in my side.

I have been getting loads of braxton hicks but they are irregular. Sometimes ill get 3 in quick succession with only a minute in between and then they stop completely for a bit.

Had midwife appt earlier (was uncomfortable to walk but managed it! ) and she reckons it won't be long. I'm soooo hoping she's right!!! When she had a feel around my belly is very sore and I was wincing.

The contractions are so frequent! But they don't hurt, they're just uncomfortable. The stitch thing is sore though.

Thoughts? :-). It's my due date today by the way hehe.

Sounds good, plonkie! I had a few consistent 'hicks' this afternoon, really thought it had started. Of course, all stopped again now. My partner got me some raspberry leaf tea today, I know none of these things 'work', but reached the end of my teacher with things starting and stopping. Due date is end of the week, baby wants to live under my ribs forever it seems.

plonkie · 29/09/2015 20:17

:-) I know what you mean about trying anything by the end. I was pondering that tea too... What seems to have ramped the braxton hicks up for me is hand expressing colostrum. Apparently you need to do it for at least 15 mins for it to prompt the hormone oxytocin to be released. But defo had stronger contractions after!

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 29/09/2015 20:29

Read quite an odd one earlier - apparently having your ankles massaged can kick things off..... It just sounds too odd to me, I'll keep to the back rubs I think. Just had my first mug of Raspberry Leaf, I actually quite liked it! Partner said it tasted like bath water - the dog's bath water. I don't know how he would know what that taste like but there we go Grin. How are you feeling now, plonkie?

jurisane · 29/09/2015 20:35

A week now since I lost my plug and still hanging in there. I'm hoping to last at least another week. Still no contractions and water is still intact. I am constantly afraid of wetting myself and check my seat every time I stand up. Blush

I hope the rest of you ladies get some relief soon!

plonkie · 29/09/2015 21:05

Jurisane I won't leave the house without a (fuckin massive) maternity pad on now. I'm carrying extra fluid and apparently if my waters go it'll be a flood!

I'm in the bath and only had a couple of contractions so it's slowed down a bit. I keep getting a weird fluttery sensation in my pelvis, dunno what that is.

Can I join?? 37+4 lost mucus plug 2 weeks ago ?? And since have been having back cramps and period cramps! Also been having a lot more slimy mucus with each strong Braxton hick! 2 weeks of dirrahea too! Didn't have any of this with my 1st, so I'm getting fed up with all the 'signs' and nothing happening! Boooo

Doublebubblebubble · 30/09/2015 19:54

Wahey plonkie!!!

I'm on the raspberry leaf tea ?? now - currently 39+4!!! nearly there (had it with DD and had a 4.5 hour labour)

Thought something interesting was happening last night (I was in so much pain) turns out drinking four cans of cream soda leads to incredibly painful contraction-like wind my poor dh lying next to me last night lol

Seriously considering shouting "get this baby out of me now.."

plonkie · 30/09/2015 22:59

Hey everyone! Guess what? I'm in labour!

Contracting every 2-3 mins and each one lasting about a minute . Rang the hospital a couple of hours ago and they asked me if I could breathe through the contractions, to stay at home until they become unbearable.

Hm. That's a bit of an odd way of measuring it as everyone is different? But hey ho, I really don't want to rush in so suits me.

They've ramped up and are rather painful now, but bearable! Feels like really bad period pain and in my back too. But just as it gets really bad, it starts to ebb away. Love the ebbing away bit haha!

Just in bath, then considering going in. But not sure as want to leave it as late as possible!

Hope everyone else is good too! :-)
