I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Heaven I was thinking of these guys www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/women-suffering/employer-information/ - at the bottom of that page there are links to some orgs that could help incl ACAS and Maternity Action - this link could be helpful www.maternityaction.org.uk/wp/advice-2/mums-dads-scenarios/#more-'

bugista · 12/09/2015 19:59

Thanks Mellee that's reassuring. It's amazing what a battering our bodies can take and still get through to the other side!

Heavenscent86 · 12/09/2015 20:03

Bugista I will take a look at those links. Thank you. Hopefully there will be something useful on there.
Mellee I'm very much hoping I won't have to go back unless I turn a dramatic corner before then. Thursday morning I cleaned my living room and then spent Friday vomiting profusely and today feeling very nauseous with a couple of short sessions. I don't know if it was down to cleaning Thursday but it certainly made me wonder.

bugista · 12/09/2015 20:14

I couldn't see a response to your question/situation in the links Heaven but they have an advice line you can call. I def think doing a lot one day has a knock on effect the next day!

Reebok thanks for your comment, hopefully I too will turn a corner at 16 if not 14weeks!

Melleebacca · 12/09/2015 20:16

Heaven - I would go to my in laws once a week for social company as the family business is run from their house. Just putting on a brave face for 8 hours while lying on their sofa/spare bed would mean I would feel worse than if I had spent the day at home. I would get back and run from car to toilet and hurl until bedtime. But the social aspect was worth it, hence I kept doing it.

Reebok · 12/09/2015 20:35

Thanks for the info Melee. I agree about the big babies. Once I got over the hg my bump took most the weight...never did put it on anywhere else. But dd was a decent weight 7lb 11oz. They take all the good stuff and leave nothing for the mamas which is why they're fine despite the hg.

Have been vomiting up non stop and feeling better for it. Was vomiting acid initially so decided to eat some cereal in a teeny bit of milk just to wet it and it all came up but I feel better for it.

Heaven I don't know how you can clean. My home is a mess but I don't care. I have no energy to do anything except lay down. Wow Melee! I applaud you! That takes some guts to travel with hg. My parents have been trying to come over to see me but I just don't want to see anyone. I feel sicker when I talk. Seeing people means having to talk. That sounds crazy I guess.

Roll on Monday....dd at nursery and oh at work...back to peace and quiet. There's been too much noise today at home. It's made me feel worse. I need silence.

Ems10000 · 12/09/2015 20:38

lilac what lovely news- huge congratulations to you and your family and hopefully a boost for those on here that are suffering so badly. reebok I wonder if the nausea after naps is due to your stomach being so empty. I used to find that although I could barely eat anything nibbling at digestive biscuits/ dry sugar puffs before a sleep helped me feel better. I really hope the ondansetron starts to work for you soon, I was still very sick on it at first but gradually got better and the excess saliva improved after a few weeks. Hugs to you all, another day nearly done!

eallison88 · 12/09/2015 20:41

Ondansetron was a miracle for a week, then wore off and was a disaster, so dose was upped massively. I was on highest dose and it managed stuff - no miracle in that I suddenly felt normal, but it gave me the opportunity to start eating a little and drinking a bit. Then as I got strobger it was more. It made a massive difference but didn't take it away. It was certainly the only drug that touched the nausea or sickness at all.

Reebok · 12/09/2015 20:43

It could be ems. I'm afraid to snack before a nap though in case I vomit in my sleep or acid reflux plays up. Thank you. I really hope it works soon too. My head is pounding. Not been able to drink much today.

shoopshoopsong · 12/09/2015 20:47

Argh, Heaven that sounds a nightmare with the pay (or lack of). I really really need to sort myself out financially. I'm self employed so I have just taken on less work recently and so made much less money than I should be, but I have one really important job on which will seriously damage my reputation if I don't do well and in time.. Which I haven't had the energy to start yet. Really shitting myself about that but I couldn't pass it up.

Frozen watermelon sounds amazing I'm definitely going to try that.

I have been on Cyclizine since on the drip in hospital on Weds and am doing much better at the moment - I'm really hoping that's because it's the drug for me rather than just my body is temporarily energised from the drip! We are going on holiday on Monday and it's a 4/5 hour drive away which I am obviously dreading but also.. At least it's a chance of scenery being sick somewhere else. There's certain rooms in my house I can't go in at the moment because the smell of them makes my stomach turn (they're not actually smelly I'm just being sensitive)

Heavenscent86 · 12/09/2015 20:53

Reebok I felt a little better Thursday. Literally all I did was chuck toys in a box and whizz the Hoover over the floor and then I was exhausted. It's a mess again now and everywhere else is a mess but I can't do anymore at the moment.
Shoop every time I walk into my house from doing the school run I have to make a mad sprint to the loo because it makes me feel so sick. As you say it doesn't smell. It just makes me feel ill. Crazy really.

bugista · 12/09/2015 21:23

The smell thing is annoying, I just spent ages trying to figure out what was smelling weird on my bedside table and it was a sandwich bag! I made OH move it and he looked at me and said "you know this doesn't smell" but it DID and it was evil.

I also think this is related to the fact our OH and kids start to smell strange too!

Shoop that must be stressful about work. Hope you feel better enough to be able to do the work but don't push yourself if you're not well! Have a nice hol.

eallison88 · 13/09/2015 05:04

Argh! Just woken up to vomit violently (made it to loo, no idea how!). Haven't woken in the night to spew for months.husband still asleep and I'm wrapped in towels on bathroom floor, unable to move cos I still feel sick and no energy. Luckily I grabbed my phone as a light on the way so I've got solitaire...!

MotherofPearl · 13/09/2015 08:28

Oh dear Ealli, that sounds bad. Awful that you're stil being sick so late on. Thanks everyone for the reassurance about ondansetron. It may not be a miracle cure as I'd hoped, but still sounds pretty effective.
I'm still in bed, where I have been since Friday evening. Just been sick again, so I guess this is it and I've not escaped. Managed to eat a plain scotch pancake last night and keep it down, but really struggling to drink. Argh.

MotherofPearl · 13/09/2015 08:34

Scotch pancakes were something I remember Ealli mentioning and makes sense: soft, plain and I imagine not too bad if it comes back up.
How is everyone else this morning? Reebok, Heaven, Bugista, Shoop?

eallison88 · 13/09/2015 09:23

The heartburn this morning is horrendous! Luckily I've got a few omeprazole left so I'll take them again for a few days. Glad the scotch pancakes was alright mop! I shall be having the same this morning - found an emergency stash in the freezer!

Reebok · 13/09/2015 09:41

Eali and mop, sorry you're both so unwell this morning.

Definately agree about the smell of rooms, oh and kids. I can't stand the smell of anything or anyone. Much rather be alone all the time because of it.

Feeling nauseous this morning but trying to ignore it. Think I'm not drinking enough as I'm super thirsty and honestly wish I could take a massive swig of water. Bad case of indigestion too which is making me feel extra sick.

Why can't men go through pregnancy? It's so frustrating! Days like today I wish I could be a man!

LucindaE · 13/09/2015 09:49

My goodness, eallison that is bad. I am keeping all my fingers crossed baby makes a timely appearance.
Reebok Have they exhausted all the options regarding meds, as I'm worried you'll be getting dehydrated again? What do the ketones measure (I know they can be deceptive in some circumstances). Are longer nursery hours or whatever out of the question? I know it's distressing; but LO's do get over a period of comparative neglect very quickly; they're adaptable.
Shoop How have you been since being discharged, I can't find it on the thread?
MotherofPearl How are you feeling atm? You've been giving great advice, but must feel anxious.
I hope everyone else is coping. The nose does become so unbelievably sensitive. The smell of petrol or OH's [green].

Melleebacca · 13/09/2015 10:08

Hi all - as I get to the business end of pregnancy (almost at the point of counting down days till I can eat normal again!), I've been reading articles on labour signs.
This will make you all laugh - vomiting and nausea is a sign of impending labour! I'm sure it's a useful sign to all those who haven't been sick since day one!
Oh well, it made me chuckle.
Happy Sunday all!

shoopshoopsong · 13/09/2015 10:19

lucinda I've been much better since being discharged Thankyou but this morning has not been good and DH is out this afternoon and tonight and has been trying to talk to me about what food we have in the house so I can make dinner for DS... Really? I think chucking bread at him from a distance will be OK meal wise for today..
We are going on holiday tomorrow and I have been googling where the nearest hospitals are Sad

MotherofPearl · 13/09/2015 11:18

Thanks Lucinda. Have sent DP out for ketostix as seem to be going downhill pretty fast. Can't keep anything down. Tried a few spoons of tinned peaches but they reappeared. Already thinking 'what was I thinking, doing this again?'

Reebok · 13/09/2015 11:34

I'm on ondasetron, cyclizine and ranitidine although the cyclizine isn't doing much so I've come off it. I'm constipated, suffering from bad heartburn and indigestion. Got so desperate today that I took Los gripe water which has helped me burp a bit but still feel like lots of trapped burps....makes me feel so sick. Lovely side effect of acid reflux. No ketones Lucinda. I've been checking. I just feel the thirst a lot today and can't seem to drink. Things like sprite or lucozade come up. Coke aggravates the acid. Squash comes up too so only options are ice and sipping water. Seem to be able to drink overnight inbetween sleep...I wake up and feel thirsty and drink little bits throughout the night but can't seem to handle it day time.

Shoop and Melee thanks! Your posts made me smile. Just what I needed.

Reebok · 13/09/2015 11:34

Mop, I know the feeling. Sad

Heavenscent86 · 13/09/2015 12:01

Oh dear I'm feeling rough again today. Sounds as if so many people are which I'm sorry to hear about. I hope we all get some relief soon. I'm 11 weeks today!

MouldyPeach · 13/09/2015 12:28

MoP I know, the lack of awareness in the medical profession makes me so sad. I know there's a little more recognition in the public since Kate Middleton's HG was widely publicised but I suppose she is very lucky to have the very best doctors looking after her. Sorry, bit of a tangent, I just wish it was as widely known possible symptom of pregnancy as gestational diabetes or similar.

Shoop I'm sorry you had an awful time with the pharmacists etc. Blogging and raising awareness is a great idea but you're right, no-one with HG has the energy for that! I think I will want to put it all quickly behind me when it's eventually all over but I hope I keep hold of the feeling and try to do some good with it, although can't hink what that will be right now.

I have just ordered the book Details about Beyond Morning Sickness: Battling Hyperemesis Gravidarum - Ashli Foshee McCall and I'm hoping it comes in useful, or at least makes me more knowledgeable and able to help others.

Mellee I laughed at hyperemesis parasite babies! I do often refer to mine as baby sick bug, hoping to get out of that habit before he or she arrives!

Ealli poor you, at least you have your phone, mine's been a lifeline through all this, am slightly addicted to crosswords now.

Sorry to hear everyone is still feeling so rough. Hope you are all getting lots of rest and keeping as much liquid down as you can.
