Anyone else had or planning a hypnobirth? My due date is 4th October and we are 2 classes in to our course. Makes sense so far but would love to hear others experiences post birth in particular. I'm hoping for a water birth but I have a reherniated disc so will have to see how I get on on the day (whenever that will be!)

I'm stunned that women are being told that there is a "right birth" because that implies that anything else is a "wrong birth". How can a birth be wrong? Difficult, easy, painful, painless, vaginal, caesarean, upright, lying down etc etc, yes. But "right"? Surely that just sets up hundreds of women to feel that their birth is "wrong" and a failure.

Hypnobirthing should be about keeping calm and positive and coping with pain, not dictating to people or setting expectations about what is right or wrong. I'm amazed this is going on.

Well I would say that a lot of what happens is inevitable - the physical stuff like whether you sneeze the baby out or need every intervention under the sun. The difference between a good and bad experience (I don't like the idea of right vs wrong either), is ime how you are treated by health professionals and whether you felt fully informed and listened to, and were given as much choice as was possible given the situation.

Am reading this with interest as I've signed up to hypnobirthing classes.

My main reason is to help me get through my fear. I want a c section at the moment because I'm scared I won't cope, will struggle and then before you know it the forceps are out.

There is no way on this earth I'm having forceps. I've had 3 mcs before this pregnancy so anyone spouting to me about how natural it is to give birth and you'll be fine... Well I don't want to hear it.

I'm in the 1% of women that have 3 miscarriages in a row after being told "it's really rare" so I genuinely don't believe anyone when they say "I'll be fine"
I'm doing hypnobirthing to cope with my fear so that I don't panic.

No idea if it will help though!!!
