I am 43 and currently pg with DC2, due early January. I thought it would be nice to have a thread for the pregnant ladies of 'older vintage', similar to the 40+ ttc thread, for advice, support and the occasional moan.

vik , how frightening , hope he's on the mend now
daft I'm not allowed a home birth because of my age and this being my fifth pregnancy( risk of bleeding afterwards ) so lucky you

crumble74 · 01/08/2015 14:14

vik How terrifying! I heard of febrile seizures in a child first aid course but it must be so scary when it happens to your baby!

grizzer I'm 19 weeks on Monday and movements are still really random, sometimes absent for a long time. Still also really light so I also do a double take going "Was that what I think it was?" I don't even have an anterior placenta so I think you need to worry.

lisa, I'm also on Clexane second time round. I had an ELCS and the spinal anaesthetic is practically an epidural so I was told to miss the previous day's dose of Clexane and that was it. My next day's dose of Clexane was 5 hrs after DS was born. Before the ELCS was on the cards I was told to stop the Clexane if I feel labour is approaching.

bring Congrats on the Harmony results!

crumble74 · 01/08/2015 14:16

grizzer Sorry I meant you don't need to worry!

Grizzer · 01/08/2015 16:02

Ha ha thanks Crumble, I hoped that was what you meant! I feel reassured - thank you all.

loveandsmiles · 01/08/2015 16:22

Oohhh just found this thread - probably a bit late in joining in - so good to know lots of others in 40s pregnantSmile

I will be 48 in October and am due DC6 next week! My other DC are 13, 10, 7, 5 and 2 and are all getting very excited. My pregnancy has been trouble free but I have just worried constantly due to my age - won't relax until I have baby in my arms.

Good luck and best wishes to you all - having DC in your 40s definitely keeps you young!! Flowers

GoooRooo · 01/08/2015 16:27

Welceme to the thread loveandsmiles. How many people have said 'oh you'll have your hands full'? Or have you lost count? Wink

loveandsmiles · 01/08/2015 16:35

goooo thank you!

To be honest most comments I've had haven't been too nice - "you're too old, you can't have time for them all, not another girl (already have 4), your poor husband/son". Heard it all last time so have hardly told anyone this time round (never look very pregnant) - will surprise a lot of people when school goes back after the holdSmile

loveandsmiles · 01/08/2015 16:36

Oops sorry - holidays

GoooRooo · 01/08/2015 16:41

People are arseholes, or at least very thoughtless. We can all pump you for information as ours gets older though as you've more experience than most here!

loveandsmiles · 01/08/2015 16:48

If people can't say anything nice they shouldn't say anything at all.

Not sure about experience - every new baby seems to bring a new learning curveSmile

bringthethunda · 01/08/2015 17:39

Vic that sounds very scary, my sister had them when she was very small as well
taranta I have been told they will bring me in to induce me before my due date, seeing as I'm 40 and a geriatric
GoooRooo I'm sorry about your wee dog, hope you're okay
daftada I have thought of a few names but I think I might get a name book out of the pound shop to peruse !

DaftAda · 01/08/2015 17:48

Go loveandsmiles I think I am going to bow out at 5, having a small baby may keep me young, but being pregnant is taking its toll.

lola I hate the talk of 'not allowed' - it's your body. Have you researched the multigravida haemorrhage risk? It seemed to me that most of the studies were done in developing countries on women that had had many babies often close together so there were additional health issues. Anyway, give birth where you will feel safest, but don't let yourself be bullied :)

I've been having a little read this afternoon about stop-start labours and multiparty. Seems pretty common. Do remind me of this when I start whinging ;)

DaftAda · 01/08/2015 17:50

XP thunda gosh! aren't some of these consultants bossy?!

bringthethunda · 01/08/2015 19:45

I have reached the age now where the male consultant at my booking appt was much much younger than me, and I felt a bit "young maaaaaaan". Everything said very slowly and carefully just so my elderly ears could take it all in...especially about the risks seeing as you're over 40 and foolishly got yourself up the duff.

Vik298 · 01/08/2015 19:51

Hi yes it was very scary but we are all fine now thanks gooo rooo ....back to nausea and feeling sorry myself again haha ???? xx

DaftAda · 01/08/2015 22:33

Ha hathunda I hope you dug out your reading specs to look at your notes. Most of the male medical students at Uni were arrogant arses - I expect the profession still attracts many of the same ilk.

In all seriousness I am developing dreadful presbyopia. I will have to wear my glasses to focus on a baby at the breast. That's going to really suck at 3am.

SeldomAthleticFC · 01/08/2015 22:55

Ha, Thunda, you made me LOL with your "young maaaan!"
I'm feeling mildly panicky because tomorrow morning I'm driving my 2DCs + 2 teenage nieces to the airport and we're off on a big family holiday for 2 weeks: my parents, my siblings and their families. It'll be great when we get there. I'm just stressing about getting there. What essential items will I forget?
I guess my main worry is that'll I'll have to let everyone know I'm PG and I'm not sure how they'll react. I'm nearly 9 weeks now. 12 week scan booked for the week after I get back. But I still can't believe I'm going to have a baby...
At least DP is coming out for a few days. Will be odd for him. He met my parents for about an hour at Christmas and now this... Poor lad!

IslaMann · 02/08/2015 09:48

Hello everyone, may I please join? I'm 44, and currently 13+3, EDD 4th Feb, although that may change after my dating scan tomorrow morning. This is pregnancy #3 for me, I have a DS 18yo, and had a MMC16 years ago, after which I had big complications and after a while was told I was then infertile. I have been married toDH for 2.5 years, and so this BFP was a total surprise and shock, but we are over the moon!

crumble74 · 02/08/2015 09:57

Congrats and welcome loveandsmiles!

Good luck today Seldom and enjoy your holiday! Hopefully everyone will be happy for you - as they all should!

Lolababy00 · 02/08/2015 10:19

daft thanks for the info will definitely look into it as it would be much easier for me to have a home birth.

DaftAda · 02/08/2015 13:20

info on hb and multiparity lola

DaftAda · 02/08/2015 13:22

Hi Isla how very exciting! Good luck with the dating scan.

loveandsmiles · 02/08/2015 18:30

Thanks crumble

Never say never daft!

IslaMann · 03/08/2015 18:25

Well, had my scan today, and my dates are spot on, so EDD 4th Feb.

GoooRooo · 03/08/2015 18:30

Hurrah, Isla!

I'm 32 weeks today and so so so so tired. Two weeks until my consultant appointment when I'll get a definite date for induction so the end is in sight.
