I am 43 and currently pg with DC2, due early January. I thought it would be nice to have a thread for the pregnant ladies of 'older vintage', similar to the 40+ ttc thread, for advice, support and the occasional moan.

Brooke thinking of you. I hope all was well.

brookeberry · 07/10/2015 09:34

It went well! Smile What a huge relief, I really had prepared for the worst. Thank you so much for your lovely messages, and apologies for the delay - we went to tell our parents and then collapsed once we got home. The support here really does make a difference, thank you again.

I need your advice already! The sonographer didn't manage to get a dating measurement because the bub was jumping about and not in the right position, she tried for ages. So she has told me to come back in three weeks. I have had two previous scans and by the dates given then, it would make me 15 + 4 at the next scan. Isn't that way outside the nuchal translucency window?

But so happy. And DH couldn't believe his eyes - little arms and legs waving about Grin

I hope everyone is doing well and thank you again for your amazing support Flowers

Sezramum · 07/10/2015 09:48

Yay! I was so pleased to read your post Grin I have been desperately waiting for your news and checked first thing this morning. I am so pleased for you and DH!

It would be outside the window for the nuchal scan. Could they not do it any earlier? Maybe next week?

mooncalf · 07/10/2015 10:14

Yay!!! So glad to hear your fantastic news **Brooke, you must be so relieved and happy!

I guess talk to your midwife about the screening test, because that has to be done by 14+1... And you will be outside that range by then. I'm sure they can arrange/rearrange the scan for you.

But for now you can celebrate getting over another hurdle :)

Sending love to you :) xx

cloudjumper · 07/10/2015 10:22

What brilliant news, brook, so happy for you!

Agree with what others have said, speak to your midwife, if you want the NT screening, it needs to be done before 14 weeks.

Phew, I was hoping that you were just too busy celebrating to post on mn. I'm so happy for you!

The dating measurement would most likely to be crown to rump, did they definitely not get the nuchal fold measurement? Did you get sent for the blood test afterwards?

Definitely ask your midwife about it.

brookeberry · 07/10/2015 11:20

Thanks all! Smile She didn't try the nuchal measurement at all. I was eyeing it up something rotten having googled like mad! I didn't get a blood test either. She did a vague crown to rump at around 6cms, but the rump was never fully in the picture.

I am seeing a consultant on Tuesday so I guess I can ask her about it then.

I think my brain stopped functioning at the word 'heartbeat' and I didn't ask a thing Blush

Nicky333 · 07/10/2015 11:46

Thank goodness for that! I saw your name as the last person posting on this thread and I was almost too worried to click into it, Brooke.

I'm sooooo pleased for you!

ababsurdum · 07/10/2015 11:47

I would call the midwife today rather than waiting till Tues so they can get you a new appt asap.

You must all be so thrilled. How did your parents take the news?

brookeberry · 07/10/2015 12:28

Aww thanks Nicky, that really is sweet. But I know what you mean, I worry and wonder when others are going for their early scans.

Yes, good advice abab. Call me naïve, but is my midwife the one who did my booking in appointment? I really am a first-timer!

My parents were shocked I think, but so happy Smile I laid out all the little pictures in front of my dad and he just couldn't believe it.

ababsurdum · 07/10/2015 12:58

Sorry, I think my wording sounded like there was a chance they might not be happy about it. I just meant how excited were they? Smile. My mum sobbed down the phone when I told her after my scan. This was after being told off by me quite early on our ttc journey when she started constantly asking if I was pregnant yet beginning when we got back from our honeymoon. We were only away 10 days!

I would just call whichever number they/she gave you or is in your pack. The person you speak to will either be able to help or direct you to someone who can. It varies by area, in mine they work as a team so you generally see someone different each time. When you call you reach an answerphone and someone calls you back.

Feeling a bit anxious about the Harmony test, I just wish it was all out of the way.

Flottilaz · 07/10/2015 13:03

Whoopee!! What a treat, Brooke! Yes, do ring your midwife/antenatal number on your maternity notes and tell them you need a nuchal scan performing before you are 13+6.

Oh, I'm so happy for you!

Bottlecap · 07/10/2015 14:19

Hi all. Congrats Brooke, I think you can start to breathe easy, yes?

Don't mean to spoil the mood in here but I think I might be having a miscarriage - I realise it's hard to tell. Mild to moderate cramping & a bit of blood which started quite pink and is now red, but really not a lot - I haven't been wearing a pad. More like I see it when I go to the bathroom.

Any thoughts?

I'm guessing I won't be able to tell definitively until a scan, unless the bleeding picks up. At the moment it's kind of like a teaspoon size amount (so sorry for the TMI).

brookeberry · 07/10/2015 14:37

Oh gawd bottle, do you have a scan booked?

cloudjumper · 07/10/2015 14:42

bottle So sorry that you are having this worry! It is just awful, and there really isn't anything one can do at this stage.
However, cramping, spotting and bleeding in early pregnancy is very common, so don't give up hope just yet! I spotted/bled between Week to 10 with this pregnancy, and had cramping all the way through the first trimester.
How far along are you? Most likely, you will just have to wait and see what happens - which is horrible, I know. But don't give up hope! Crossing everything for you xxxx

Sezramum · 07/10/2015 14:43

Oh Bottle I hope everything is ok for you. When is your scan?

It could be implantation bleeding but I have never had this, so I am not sure what it is like.

I hate to say it but it sounds like when my MC started. I truly hope this is not the case for you. Flowers

DreamingOfThruxtons · 07/10/2015 14:43

Bottlecap, you should definitely call your midwife or GP for advice. I had similar bleeding in my last pregnancy, though, and all was fine. Fingers crossed for you. Flowers

mooncalf · 07/10/2015 14:58

Bottle I don't have much to add, other than my very best wishes that all is ok with you, and to echo other people saying get in for a scan at the epac pronto, and try not to assume too much (sorry, fairly pointless advice really, as how can you not?!) - sometimes bleeding and cramping is not the end. I had no bleeding with my m/c, just loss of symptoms.

And sending you virtual hugs and lots of love

Bottlecap · 07/10/2015 15:00

Sezra thanks for your candour, I am assuming the worst at this point.

Dreaming I don't even have a midwife yet, I am seeing my GP on Monday - my first appt. I figured I could book in a scan for Monday privately if I don't have any kind of dramatic bleeding, i.e. I'm left uncertain as to the viability of this pregnancy.

I've been a bit teary about it, but my husband has been a real champ - took me to lunch and ordered me a big glass of vino. I'm fine, like I said upthread a bit I was having some ambivalence about this (my youngest is ten!).

Sezramum · 07/10/2015 15:13

Don't give up hope Bottlecap. I regretted posting what I did afterwards as you just never know what it could be. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way. I am glad DH is being so supportive and looking after you.

brookeberry · 07/10/2015 15:24

Yes bottle you have a lovely DH! As cloud says bleeding is very common and doesn't always mean the worst. When I had my earlyish mc, it was very much like my period, not like a teaspoon!

ababsurdum · 07/10/2015 17:08

Bottle I would call the epu, it shouldn't matter that you haven't seen a midwife yet. I haven't either and if I was spotting I would still call them. Wishing you lots of luck and sending lots of love.

Nicky333 · 07/10/2015 17:15

Yes, I would also call the EPU, despite not having seen a midwife. Fingers crossed that it's just normal spotting as lots of people on here have had xox

Bottlecap · 07/10/2015 17:45

thanks everyone (and you're making me a bit teary again, so nice you all are). Just so I understand, what could the epu unit do? This is really just to gather information rather than them actuallly intervening, correct?

thanks again guys. Really great to have this thread because no one IRL knows apart from my husband, and I've really leaned on him today.

RooibosTeaAgain · 07/10/2015 17:56

Congrats brooke

Hope bleeding stops Bottle. I bled 3 times before 8/9 weeks and I had a scan at 7/8 weeks as it was already booked for a different reason. Cannot self refer to EPU here, only a midwife or dr can - but know other areas are different! The EPU asked me my dates, did a quick scan ( thankfully was heartbeat at 7plus few days) and said could not see site of blood. Was told to to wait for 12 week scan after this as no obvious problem. They suggested it was the bleeding I would get if period due as that can happen ( except first bleed was at 6 weeks - which could have been implantation). I was not given blood tests as visible baby on screen. Think if you are 4/5 weeks they can do tests to see if Hcg levels are rising correctly.
