I am 43 and currently pg with DC2, due early January. I thought it would be nice to have a thread for the pregnant ladies of 'older vintage', similar to the 40+ ttc thread, for advice, support and the occasional moan.

eagleray wonderful wonderful news!!!
ababsurdum do not read them!!!! No no no!!!Smile you will stress (voice of experience here)

We have a cot from John Lewis. It is still standing my wild barbarian of a toddler!!

Paperblank · 25/09/2015 21:44

Great news about your scans Grin it's amazing to see these tiny babe's wriggling about...I cried happy tears throughout my first scan.

Sezramum · 25/09/2015 22:52

Great news eagleray! Smile

ababsurdum · 25/09/2015 22:56

We have the Rachel cotbed from John Lewis. It's white and looks nice but white does reflect every bit of light I found. The end has been chewed by my toddler as it's nearest his door. They put bite guards along the sides but not the ends Smile

I think I've learned my lesson, I won't look at any more of them. Whatever happens it's done now, I just have to stay positive and think that this was meant to be.

cloudjumper · 26/09/2015 04:52

Another fan of the Stokke Sleepi cot here! We bought it secondhand as well, they so expensive. Still paid quite a lot for it, as we had to get a new mattress, the one that came with it was mouldy. I love it, really looking forward to getting it out again.

I can't sleep Angry Woke up with a blocked nose (I've got a bit of a cold) and have not been able to go back to sleep since then. Propped up with 3 pillows, but feeling restless and uncomfortable. Sigh

Hi, may I join? Been lurking for a while but too nervous to post. Am 14 weeks, aged 40, with one dc aged 3. History of infertility, mc and stillbirth so anxious but the Hospital is not - first midwife appointment will be next week at 15weeks ( they were too busy before then) and had 12 week scan and anomaly is booked.

brookeberry · 26/09/2015 11:41

Great cloudjumper, it's good to get a recommendation as I have no clue what I'm doing. Not only would this be my first, I haven't really been around babies . . . . may need quite a lot of advice along the way! Hope you sleep better tonight!

Hello rooibos - so sorry for all you have been through - I have had 3 mcs, all relatively early but still heartbreaking, so I can only imagine what you have experienced. I'm still waiting for my 12 wk scan in just over a week, although I've had one at 10wks and so far so good. Good luck! Smile

ababsurdum · 26/09/2015 15:54

I hope you managed to get some more sleep in the end Cloud.

Rooibos congratulations and welcome. I'm so so sorry for what you have been through, it must have been awful. Here's to a happy and healthy pregnancy this time.

Still not feeling pregnant here, it's the oddest thing but familiar from last time. I didn't even get any cravings last time I was just generally very hungry. I often forget that I am pregnant at the moment, is that strange? It was so all consuming last time as I had the worry that it might be our one and only shot at pregnancy, this time it's quite different.

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend, it's wonderfully sunny here.

Paperblank · 26/09/2015 16:15

Ababsurdum

I know what you mean. I forget too!! I thought I would have craving, morning sickness and every other symptom under the sun but so far (touch wood) I've generally sailed through these first weeks. At the moment I think I can feel the baby moving (16+6) but not 100% sure I'm not making it up.

I have been and bought maternity clothes this afternoon so that's made me feel a bit more mum-to-be rather than just a bit fat!

ababsurdum · 26/09/2015 16:20

Paperblank I felt my ds move at 16.5 weeks so it could well be. About a week or so later my dh could feel it too Smile

The only symptom I have at the moment is tiredness, I'm asleep on the sofa every night. I'm such a fun wife!!

brookeberry · 26/09/2015 16:47

I am asleep at 9.30pm every night right now - unbelievable! And I'm incredibly hungry all the time, uncomfortably so (11 + 1 wks). I do forget I'm pregnant sometimes though and I think that's okay. We won't be able to forget when we're huge!

I'm getting sharpish twinges very low to one side of my abdomen so I'm hoping these are signs of stretching, or something else normal . . . not sore, just sharpish.

Hope everyone is good. Smile

Nicky333 · 26/09/2015 16:53

I still don't think I'm pregnant at almost 6 weeks. I have sort of feelings in my stomach (as though I need to go to the bathroom) sometimes and I got a cramp this morning, but other than that, nothing. Although I ran a parkrun this morning (5k) and I was very, very slow.

So yes, I forget I'm pregnant too. Or was, anyway. I might buy some more tests...

ababsurdum · 26/09/2015 17:00

brooke twinges are very normal, you will get lots of them as you and the baby grow Grin

brookeberry · 26/09/2015 19:27

Thanks ababsurdum, that's reassuring. I think I need to get to my 12 wk scan before I believe this is really possible for me. Smile

Sezramum · 26/09/2015 19:41

Hello all Smile Hope you are all enjoying the weekend?

Good advice re the cots. I have never looked at the Stokke before. I love their Tripp Trapp chairs though and used to use them with my older children. I think I will need to consider second hand though. I also like the idea of the Amby but I guess I have plenty of time to think about it!

Welcome and congratulations Rooibos. Sorry to hear about your previous experiences. Wishing you lots of luck this time.

Ababsurdum How lovely to feel the baby move! I must admit I can't for that feeling!

When I do manage to forget that I am pregnant I manage to stop feeling nauseous. We went to a food festival today and I genuinely liked the look of everything and felt like I could happily eat it. DP thought I was faking it as we had friends with us! As soon as we were back and I looked at these amazing Brownies we had bought and sadly I was back to normal with both my head and stomach saying no Confused. I still might have to try though Grin

nashandra · 27/09/2015 18:32

Can I ask you wonderful ladies if you are hoping for a home birth or a hospital one? Wishing everyone a smooth, uncomplicated and happy birth whichever they choose Flowers

notsoold · 27/09/2015 19:22

Nashandra..... seem so faraway for me but a hospital one for sure.....xxx

ababsurdum · 27/09/2015 19:48

Arghh, lost my post!

I'll definitely be at the hospital, I'll have an elective section as with dc1.

Sezra I hope you enjoyed those brownies in the end!

I'm 8 weeks today. I can't believe it's nearly 4 weeks since I found out. We went to friends for lunch today and I had to decline all offers of wine. Luckily they didn't query it!

Allthefours · 28/09/2015 11:05

Hello ladies, have not posted much on the thread but have followed (although following the hacking scandal, I hadn't got around to changing my password!). Welcome to all the new members, there are plenty of us still on the journey to becoming parents.

Anyways, thought that I would update you all in the slightly earlier than planned delivery of Ted Alexander John born by c section at 36+6 weeks on 25th September weighing 7lb 5oz. We are still in hospital and Ted is having phototherapy for jaundice but hoping to be home in the next day or so.

I am totally smitten with this adorable baby and there is definitely merits of being an oldie!!

Bottlecap · 28/09/2015 11:21

May I join? Just got a positive test yesterday, I am absolutely reeling from the shock. 43. Did not expect this to work. I guess I'm due in June?

Congrats allthefours.

ababsurdum · 28/09/2015 11:55

Congratulations allthefours and welcome to the world baby Ted Flowers

Congratulations on your bfp bottlecap, I'm 43 and 8 weeks pregnant with dc2. Is this your first or do you already have dc?

I had another downs wobble last night. I just want to fast forward 4 weeks or so and know that everything is fine. Sigh, just have to stay positive.

Bottlecap · 28/09/2015 12:09

I have a 9 and 13 year old (both boys). I have no earthly idea why I am doing this all over again! My husband has been desperate for a baby girl for years, and I relented thinking it would never happen!

8 weeks is fairly safe - right? I've been googling this extensively.

I am just now contemplating how difficult socialising for the next 3 months is going to be sans alcohol, how will I explain this? Teetotaling seems ever so much more difficult in your 40s than your 30s.

notsoold · 28/09/2015 12:24

allthefours congratulations!!!! So good to know he arrived safe and is now in your arms!xx
bottlecap and ababsurdum..... I would join you ...but I am way behind.Grin
Hold on there.....

Ababsurdum would you consider the harmony test?

bottlecap I am 44 !!!! Welcome!!

ababsurdum · 28/09/2015 12:42

bottlecap do you mean in terms of the risk of miscarriage? I think by 8 weeks the risk is much reduced, it gets lower each week. No guarantees though.

Fingers crossed your dh gets a little girl this time. Re. The not drinking, all the usual excuses seem quite lame don't they? Still, we have a 20mo so quite frankly nights out are few and far between at the moment Grin

notsoold yes I think we will get the harmony test though I read you have to wait until you're 10 weeks? I googled the risk and it's 1:45 at 43 so 2.2%. That's much, much lower than I thought it was so it's given me some comfort.

Sezramum · 28/09/2015 13:03

Congratulations Allthefours, Ted is a great name! Flowers. Hope you get to take him home soon.

Welcome and congrats Bottlecap. I am 43 and pregnant with DC4. My youngest is also 9 (and a boy). I am holding off telling my DC until after my nuchal scan in 2 weeks (all being well)

Nashandra I will be having a hospital birth and for the first time requesting an elcs!

Ababsurdum I forced myself to try the Brownies Grin

I was wondering if any of you felt more emotional as an older expectant mum? I have moments where I really feel quite down and tearful for a couple of days. I worry about coping and feel a bit alone even though my DP is very fabulous. I blame it on my hormones but I am wondering if it is also my age? It does pass but seems to be a bit of a weekly occurrence! Maybe I should have started a new thread for this!
