I am 43 and currently pg with DC2, due early January. I thought it would be nice to have a thread for the pregnant ladies of 'older vintage', similar to the 40+ ttc thread, for advice, support and the occasional moan.

Welcome titch I'm also 43 and 25 weeks today!

Isla I think that the scanxiety never really goes away... I have found that it gets less, but I still go very nervous as I climbed on the bench for my 20-week one. Hope it all went OK for you.

I handed in my 'official' notification at work today, stating when I want to start maternity leave. DH spent a lot of time last night, trying to figure out how we'll manage with my maternity pay, what to do about childcare for DS, how long I will be able to take off etc. It's all getting real now, eek!

All was well, have a low lying anterior placenta which explains why I'm not always feeling movements. Having been scanned today for over half an hour (baby wouldn't get in right position for all measurements without a lot of jiggling on my part) I am reassured that he/she doesn't actually stop!

Grizzer · 19/09/2015 08:31

Welcome Titch & congratulations on your pregnancy. I'm 42 & almost 24 weeks.
I have a very wriggly baby too Isla. Every scan I've had (10 so far!!) the baby has been waving & dancing. Lovely to see but I'm starting to feel nervous it might never sleep! Grin did you find out the sex?
I find it interesting that every single person I talk to in England wants to know but when we visited dh's family in Northern Ireland they don't mention it. It's really not the norm to find out the sex there. Will they scan you again to see if placenta has moved? Mine was low anterior but is now high.
I need to start going through the figures too Cloud. Really hoping I can take 10 months off.

IslaMann · 19/09/2015 09:45

No Grizzer we've chosen not to find out the sex, this was a surprise baby so want the surprise to continue. Yes I'll be having another scan at 32 weeks. I'm having an elective section anyway, so won't make much difference if it hasn't moved up as long as it's not in the way of the incision area.

Lolababy00 · 19/09/2015 15:17

Congratulations siesta what a lovely picture Smile

GoooRooo · 20/09/2015 07:09

Our beautiful daughter, Rachel Rose, arrived yesterday! She was undiagnosed breech do ended up with an EMCS. I'm very sore but apart from that we are both doing great. Her big brother is chuffed to bits.

Congrats to you too Siesta!

Nearly 24 weeks & my belly moved tonight! So exciting Grin
Has anyone used keratin/Brazilian blow dry on their hair? I have very curly, frizzy hair & loved my treatment that straightened it for a few months. I decided not to have it while pregnant but am so fed up of straightening it every day. I'm going to Spain in October & am dreaming of swimming every day & not getting out the pool looking like Diana Ross!! Is it like hair dye & no risk really or should I just wait & make it my post birth treat?

Grizzer · 20/09/2015 21:04

Ok, don't even answer that! I've just read about a few people who say the mc'd after having it. (A few years ago admittedly). I'm pretty sure it no longer contains formaldehyde but I will be giving it a miss anyway. I will learn to embrace the frizz!!

ababsurdum · 21/09/2015 12:32

Exciting seeing your belly move Grizzer Grin

7+1 today, we have our early scan tomorrow. Hoping things will all be ok.

Sanshine · 21/09/2015 13:11

Hi, I'm 41 and just found out I'm pregnant with my second, my DD is 11 months old.
Early days, a bit worried till the first scan.
Very excited and happy.
:-)

Sezramum · 21/09/2015 13:28

Congratulations Siesta and Gooo What beautiful babies! Flowers

I love belly moving Grizzer. I cant wait to get to that stage!

I have still been holding back a bit on the forum but I am now 9+1 and no longer panicking about MC. Although I do realise that there is always still a risk.

I have decided to go for a private nuchal scan and blood test and I am hoping that this is the right thing to have done. Apparently latest research suggests the blood test is best done around 9 weeks and then the Dr scans between 12-13 weeks to get the best possible results. I just thought that I wanted to get my 'odds' as accurate as possible in case I had to make decisions about further testing especially as I expect them to be high Sad. I do have faith in the Doctor and her experience but there is a bit of me that is worried I should just stick to the NHS Confused

Anyway, bloods to be taken tomorrow PLUS I get an extra scan whilst I am there Smile. At our early scan baby was just a blob with a heart beat so I am hoping to see a bit more tomorrow. Downside is that DP gets to see me being a complete wuss when I have my blood taken! Blush

Siesta · 21/09/2015 13:36

Congratulations GoooRoo! She is gorgeous.

I got home from the hospital with little Emile on Saturday ( they keep you in a long time in Spain) and I'm really happy to be home. I think I'll be making an appearance on the breastfeeding forums soon. It's a tricky business!

Hope everyone's pregnancies are going well. It's all worth it in the end x

Sezramum · 21/09/2015 14:14

I just wanted to add that further to my post on the Nuchal screening, I can't find anything online that states when is best for the blood test (9 weeks or between 11 and 13 weeks). The only information I have is from the clinic website so I didn't want people worrying about when it is the best time. I am going to ask her tomorrow though Smile.

brookeberry · 22/09/2015 09:28

Very good luck for your scan today ababsurdum. I know it's nerve-wracking, but you'll get through it! x

Grizzer · 22/09/2015 20:51

Congratulations Sanshine.
How did scans go Sezra & Ababsurdum?

Titch2015 · 23/09/2015 09:23

Thanks for the welcome ladies.
It's been lovely reading through the thread & catching up with where everyone is at.
Congrats to those who have already had their babies too.

I finally plucked up the courage to make a docs appt, am seeing one this morning, eeeekkk!!!

notfromstepford · 23/09/2015 10:16

Not been on for ages - it's been brilliant catching up.
Congrats to everyone who's had their babies and lovely that you've shared those wonderful pictures Grin

My update is I had my 12 week scan last week and dates are bang on, so that's good. NT measurement good but still waiting for results from blood test for the odds.
Booked in for ELCS at 39 weeks which is the week before Easter - providing I get that far this time of course. (DS delivered at 35 weeks with IUGR) Next scan 20 weeks then every 4 weeks after that. Bit more relaxed now I've had the first scan.

I can't decide if the belly that I'm showing is down to pregnancy or my love of cake because I'm only 13 weeks, but my new maternity jeans are bloody comfy so grateful for that!

ababsurdum · 23/09/2015 19:34

That's weird, I must have got a glitch on the web page I have open for this thread as to me the site looked like it's been down for two days but obviously not! Hmm

I had my scan yesterday afternoon and thankfully all was fine. I was measuring 7 weeks which is almost bang on. There is also only one which was a BIG relief (twins the first time would have been fine but I was dreading the prospect this time round). The heart was beating away and even though it was less than a week later than the early scan we had for our ds you could see a real difference in the shape of the embryo. It's about 10mm big Smile

I called my surgery to make my booking appointment when we got home and they could only offer me mid Oct. I called the midwife and they said it was fine and that they'd send a separate form to book my 12 week scan so I have nothing now until the 13th October.

It's still really early so I'm a little cautious at the moment but so far so good. I hope everyone else is doing well.

EagleRay · 23/09/2015 21:27

So pleased your scan went well Ababsurdum! You must be very relieved.

And great news regarding yours too Notfromstepford. Hurrah for maternity clothes - I'm in the same boat but much earlier on Blush Haven't actually put on any weight but have no control over my tummy at all.

I've got my scan this Friday - trying to remain optimistic! My poor boobs feel like canonballs and I've had to finally throw in the towel regarding structured work trousers. Today I wore my old maternity skirt and it was bloody heaven! This week's been a bit of a struggle as it's the second week of my new job and so more is expected of me. Luckily I've only had one will I/won't I puke moment at my desk... DP away all week and wasn't able to get back midweek like he normally does so been exhausted dealing with toddler, commuting and new job. DD is going through a phase of wanting to be carried everywhere which is a nightmare.

Tonight I'm sat on the sofa with cheese sandwiches, crisps, trifle and a cup of tea after dinner snack while DD lies in bed with Peppa Pig on the ipad (bedtimes have been something else these last few days). There are so many wrongs with that last sentence I don't know where to start but right now I'm too tired to care.

I haven't sorted out booking appt yet - been given the details by the docs twice but will wait until after Friday. Bit nervous about how I'm going to manage all the appts (have twice as many as most people due to consultant care) and trying to do it without work knowing too much.

Nicky333 · 23/09/2015 23:09

Hi, I'm 40 and think I'm pregnant ?? According to my dates, I'm 5+1 and the four tests say I am but I just don't feel it. I feel a bit stouter but that's it. I had a bilateral mastectomy in 2006 so the boobs are no clue.

We were TTC for three years, got married in Vegas just over a year ago and had just booked to go again in May. If all goes to plan, my due date will be the day after we were supposed to get there.

We have our midwife appointment a week today and I'm hoping that she can give me a sign. Will she try to listen for a heartbeat at this appointment or is it too early? This is our first child so I have absolutely no idea ??

Nicky333 · 23/09/2015 23:10

Those question marks aren't supposed to be there in the first and last sentence - they're iPad emoticons gone wrong.
