I am 43 and currently pg with DC2, due early January. I thought it would be nice to have a thread for the pregnant ladies of 'older vintage', similar to the 40+ ttc thread, for advice, support and the occasional moan.

Hello - well I'm 40 and am currently 8 weeks pregnant. I have a DS of 3.5 and this was our last ditch attempt at another.

After it taking nearly 10 years to conceive DS, this one happened 1st month of trying - which freaked me out as the OPK that I had bought didn't show I'd ovulated that month. I took 3 tests before I could believe what I was seeing.

Been interesting reading through this thread - makes you realise that you're not alone! Smile

Flottila · 20/08/2015 22:35

Hello! I found you at last

crumble26 · 21/08/2015 09:49

Hi notfrom and flottila and congrats on your pregnancies!

notfrom That's amazing after 10 years of trying, I was at the end of my tether after our long journey to no.1, it took 2yrs7m to finally hold a baby. No.2 happened within a few months. We really thought we weren't going to be able to have another one. Smile

Sezramum · 21/08/2015 14:26

Hello notfrom and flottila Smile

Today is a good day. It is my birthday (43) Cake and I have bitten the bullet and just booked an early scan! Grin

I will be 9+1 (it is two weeks on Monday) as I wanted to wait until after 8 but it also need to be when the kids have gone back to school!

I am actually very excited, but also desperately hoping that I make it that far this time! I know opinion is divided on whether it is a good idea but I would love the reassurance and also just to check there is only one!

crumble26 · 21/08/2015 18:28

Happy birthday sezra!

I think it's totally understandable to want to have an early scan. Good on you for booking it.

Grizzer · 21/08/2015 22:18

Happy birthday Sezra!! Hope you've had a lovely day.
Good for you for booking a scan. It's the only way to reassure ourselves at that moment. I usually start worrying again by the next day but hopefully that's just me!
I haven't been able to log on for the last few days. Tried to change passwords as advised after the hacking but couldn't do that either. I guess everyone was doing it at the same time. I had withdrawal symptoms!!
20 week scan for me on Sunday. Can't wait. Dh is so anxious about everything I'm basically dragging him kicking & screaming but tough - he needs to man up Grin.
Glad you found us Flotillas. Sorry to hear about your bum!!
Congratulations Notfrom. 1 month is very impressive!
Waves to everyone else. Time for sleep. Will catch up properly tomorrow.

Sezramum · 22/08/2015 11:36

Thank you for the birthday wishes crumble and Grizzer.

Grizzer I hope your scan goes well tomorrow, will look forward to hearing your news Smile!

Cineraria · 23/08/2015 08:38

Good luck with your scan today, Grizzer! I hope it puts your DH's mind at rest too so you can both enjoy planning for your baby's arrival together.

It was so hot yesterday that when DH put the sprinkler on the lawn, I put my swimsuit on and stood under it! I hope I didn't put the neighbours off their barbecue though. I got him to make ice cream in the evening too, chocolate and cherry, mmm!

Grizzer · 23/08/2015 13:57

Hi all, scan went well. I particularly enjoy the long, drawn out silences!! The lady said everything looked normal though so that's a relief.
I was looking forward to attempting to relax for the next 20 weeks but have read through the report & it says nuchal fold is 5.7. I assume, as she said that everything was normal, that it grows with the baby but it has made me slightly nervous as it was 2.2. I didn't think it was an issue after the 12 week scan. I had a genetic blood test which gave me a down's risk of 1:103 which I was happy with but this NF reading has made me a bit nervous. Excuse my ignorance but does it get bigger?
Sprinkler action sounds good Cineraria. Getting caught in the rain today was not so good! What a difference.

Grizzer · 23/08/2015 14:14

Have googled a bit more & it seems between 5 & 6 mm is normal at 20 weeks. I am officially calm Grin.
Oh & dds insistence that I was having a girl, even before we told her I was pregnant has now changed. Apparently she heard the baby burp so it's a boy GrinGrin.
Only another 20 weeks to wait......

Sezramum · 23/08/2015 18:03

Great news Grizzer!

I am pleased to hear that all is ok and that you have been reassured about the nuchal fold measurement. I would not have had a clue about that. Just goes to show you never stop learning. Hope you can try and relax a bit now Smile.

cloudjumper · 23/08/2015 18:10

Fab news, Grizzer! Hope you can relax a bit now! I feel a lot calmer since the 20-week scan.
No idea about the NF, though, I'm surprised they even measured it at your scan, what is it supposed to tell them at this point? But if the sonographer didn't flag it up, I wouldn't worry about it!

I'm now getting more and more movements, which is lovely!
Oh, and the app which tells you he size of the baby? DS told his nursery workers the other day that the baby is an artichoke GrinGrin

Flottila · 23/08/2015 19:33

Great news,Grizzer! I have no fear about the 20-wk scan (so much kicking in here!); just pure excitement to find out the sex. After my nausea and sickening fatigue left a few weeks ago I am suddenly floored again with tiredness. Is this normal at 17 weeks?

Grizzer · 23/08/2015 20:45

I'm still getting nausea too Flottila, especially when I'm hungry.
It's lovely to feel the movements isn't it? Cloud. You're getting them early Flotilla. I've only just started to properly feel them. Placenta is still anterior though but no longer low so that's good.
Ooh artichoke, I wonder if that's me on Tuesday or am I a couple of weeks behind you Cloud? I might have to take dd to the supermarket - not sure she's seen an artichoke!

cloudjumper · 23/08/2015 22:16

Grizzer We're now at pomegranate stage Grin I feel I need to buy some of those fruits - DS has a very varied diet, but not even we regularly eat artichokes or pomegranates! I think he just sees the funny cartoon picture and thinks that's a picture of the baby. I feel some explanations coming up... When are you due? My EDD is 1 Jan.

OP posts:
Grizzer · 23/08/2015 22:18

12th Jan for me so I'm a couple of fruits behind you!!

IslaMann · 26/08/2015 20:04

Found you again, lost the thread from TIO with the reboot hack stuff. Marking place.

GoooRooo · 26/08/2015 20:12

Baby is currently a coconut apparently. One and a half weeks and I'm giving her an eviction notice and will be on here begging you all to give me tips to go into labour.

35 + 2 and HAD ENOUGH.

Siesta · 26/08/2015 20:19

I'm not far behind you Gooorooo 34+4. He's measuring a week ahead and is head down, so I hope that's a sign that he'll come punctually!

GoooRooo · 26/08/2015 20:21

I was told she's head down at my last consultant appointment at 34 weeks. I've got a midwife appointment next Thursday and then a consultant appointment at 39 weeks for a sweep. I would dearly love to go into labour before that!

DS arrived at 37+3. If DD arrives at the same point it will be on my 41st birthday Grin

We'll have to cheer each other to the finish line, Siesta

Empem288 · 26/08/2015 22:18

Another one feeling fed up Confused can't breathe can't get up can't sit down can't do bugger all! And and I'm 40 on Friday Confused

Had mw today blood pressure up n measuring 34cm.. Weekly BP checks now and growth scan at 34 wks

I've taken week off work this week and have 4 weeks when I go back.. Now thinking I need to rethink??!

cloudjumper · 27/08/2015 11:46

Fingers crossed for goo and siesta that everything will kick off soon.

empem See how you feel - is your job very stressful? I've been told I will need weekly BP checks from a certain stage on (think it was 34 weeks), which is going to be a right pain in the behind because my GP surgery is sooo unorganised, and you always end up waiting for ages. Wondering if I could just get them done in a pharmacy? Really don't fancy having to traipse to my GP every week just for a BP check...

I've taken the plunge and signed up for pregnancy yoga. Loved it when pg with DS, but I'm so superstitious (and tight moneywise) now that I will only do it for the 3rd trimester... Finally starting to acknowledge that this is really going to happen. I was asked at work yesterday when I'll be going on mat leave, and I did a double take, this is all becoming 'official' now!

I am enormous already, though Confused - don't think I was this big with DS at the same stage.
21+6 today and getting more and more movements. Not very regular, but definitely noticeable Smile. Wondering when DH and DS will be able to feel them as well.

Hi,
I'm 47 and had twins 13 days ago, everything went really well.
As I'm over 40 I was on levothyroxine throughout my pregnancy, something which confused alot of pharmacists and doctors I met along the way, who assumed I had hyperthyroidism.

Siesta · 27/08/2015 13:59

Congratulations FluffieBabies! Flowers

Cineraria · 27/08/2015 14:28

I'm another one who can't wait until the baby's on the outside of me. I keep telling him "You need to start thinking of packing your bags and leaving if it's getting short of space in there" when he wriggles and shifts about as if he's not comfortable and then saying "but wait another week at least" because I know it's a bit early yet and would feel guilty if he came now and wasn't well.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Empem! Can you take a day's leave each week (although next week is Bank Holiday anyway) to make it easier on you if you do keep working. I'm going to be doing a day or two a week from home, which make a big difference to how tired I get.

Cloud, I love my pregnancy yoga too. I feel so good afterwards. Hope you enjoy yours.

We have been interviewing for my maternity cover for the last week and our chosen candidate has accepted the job AND is able to start from next week, giving me a four week handover. This is really handy I'm supposed to be part of a team of three but there is currently no team head and my colleague has only recently started with us, so it would have been horrible to leave him holding everything and trying to look after a new person too. I feel really happy leaving her looking after my job for a year and think she will really enjoy doing it, as it will use lots of her skills but in a new context, so good for her CV too.
