Induction...your thoughts?

Hi ladies,

Currently booked in to have induction on Tuesday at 39+2 due to baby's growth as she is slightly on the smaller side & she hasnt grown much since 36 week scan. Consultant thinks it would be best to induce me rather than leave her be. I'm soooo nervous but of course excited too.

Would like to hear your experiences etc

Thanks!

Xx

Oh I should add - no intervention required and just one stitch. I don't know how to prepare as I had no warning but I was very naive about the whole process and think that helped as I just happily thought I was meeting DS soon and my horrible pregnancy was over!

HollyC255552 · 10/07/2015 21:17

Venus - i'm impressed!

I keep going from one min thinking I can't wait and the next think in sssshhhiittt its actually happening, sometimes I forget I am pregnant its so serial still. I can't believe there's a full born baby inside me! Shock

lexyloub · 10/07/2015 21:36

I was induced with 2 out of 3 pregnancies given the choice id choose induction every time. You can prepare yourself and everybody else for baby's arrival and once induction kicks in it kicks out most off the slow labour. Good luck.

Oh my god i know..its amazing how there is a full grown baby inside me & she'll be here this time next week! Eeeek!

Oh really? Thats what my partner keeps saying 'at least you know what day or around about when we'll be having her'. Basically induction can be pretty quick if all goes to plan?

I had an induction with ds at 36 weeks as I had a blood disorder. It's been 10.5 years now but I still remember it as a very positive experience. Had to have the pessary first thing then waited, went for a walk, watched tv (it was Xmas week so lots on!) started getting pains about 7pm after mw broke my waters. Ds was born as 9pm gas and air only - it was amazing. Good luck I hope you have a positive experience too Smile

VenusVanDamme · 10/07/2015 21:56

Holly - don't be too impressed, he was under 4lb so a few friends kindly suggested that I just sneezed him out ???? it definitely wasn't like that and I had a good grab a DH hand but it was manageable at least.

HollyC255552 · 10/07/2015 21:57

Wow honeyandfizz i really hope it all goes smoothly for me like it did for you. I know its out of my control though. I would love to have little pain relief as possible. I can imagine its easier said than done though.

Cervical ripening balloon catheter is the proper name

HollyC255552 · 10/07/2015 22:01

Oh my 4lb..that is tiny. I think my little beauty is fairly small 'apparently' she was around 5lb 14 3 weeks ago & she hasnt grown much since.

Wildfire wasn't we due the same day? Have u had a sweep?

ScorpioMermaid · 11/07/2015 02:32

I'm being induced on my due date on Monday. I'm a little apprehensive as I have been induced before and It was so painful. Pessary inserted at 9pm (possibly later) baby born at midnight. Like a pp said, it's like going from 0-100mph in a flash.

lexyloub · 11/07/2015 03:24

Sometimes the pessaries don't work straight away and you might need a couple. Certainly in both my experience with 1st induction my contractions started straight away every 5 min but didn't last long over the next few hours they grew in intensity. 1st time I was 8.5hrs from having pessary to delivery. 2nd time the 1st gel did nothing but contractions started about 1.5 hr after 2nd pessary again at around 4/5 min apart then things really sped up I went from 3cm to delivered in just over an hour.

Scotinoz · 11/07/2015 03:24

I've had two inductions - ARM, drip etc. I've had two three and a bit hour labours, with a bit of gas and air. Induction was good for me Smile

Cloe2014 · 11/07/2015 11:56

Omg the ward has rang me I'm going in tomorrow at 10:30 to have the balloon Blush

HollyC255552 · 11/07/2015 12:41

Oh my god how come?! How are you feeling about that? Pleeeease let me know how you get on. X

OP posts:
Cloe2014 · 11/07/2015 15:56

Well it can take up to 24hours to work so I will prob go bk Monday at same time to have it removes.. this is all just a guess though I'll let you know more tomorrow I'm just hoping my cervix is open slightly so it can go in x

Beetleandbug · 11/07/2015 16:03

Baby arrived five hours after first propess. Intense and no time for pain relief (thank god for tens machine) but in retrospect I'm glad it was quick.

HollyC255552 · 11/07/2015 16:51

Thanks Scorpio, Lexyloub, Scotinoz and Beetleandbug just re-reading your posts..basically you just dont know quick its all going to happen eh? Everyone is different i guess. Is it better for it to all go 100mph or not?! Hmmm?!

Cloe - fingers crossed for you lovely, will be thinking of you. Look forward to the update tomorrow.

Hey Holly, I was induced with my first in March (am back on the pregnancy thread with a bit of bump envy!!) I was 38 weeks and induced because of slow growth. Hospital estimated his weight as 5lb 2oz the week before and he was 5lb 7oz when he was born so pretty spot on! I had the pessary at 10am, wandered round hospital most of the day with mild contractions. Was examined at 4pm and only 2cm. A couple of hours later it suddenly kicked in, last thing I remember is bouncing on the ball with gas and air, then I was pushing and he was born! From regular contractions to birth was just over an hour. I had the same go with the flow attitude although as I was pushing my husband said I was begging for an epidural! I would do it all over again right now! Good luck :-)
