Lucozade test

Has anyone here had it? Hoping for some experience / advice.

I'm having it on Thursday due to DS' weight (10lb 4oz).

Midwife said it would make me feel really unwell; if you've had the test did you find this? I'm fucking crap with needles at the best of times so to know that I'm going to be feeling rubbish is making me pretty anxious.

What were the results of your test (if you don't mind sharing of course) and what did that mean for your pregnancy?

Thanks in advance for any nuggets of wisdom.

I had a glucose tolerance test - it wasn't lucozade but fasting for 12 hours then a glucose drink then fasting for 2 more hours. I felt absolutely fine - thought I was going to feel awful!

I had the GTT a few weeks ago now and the results all came back normal. Baby is measuring bang on for weeks of gestation so I'm at all worried about it. I don't have gestational diabetes thankfully.

Thanks twister - I guess it's the same thing. My leaflet says Lucozade specifically (I wonder if whoever makes Lucozade gives the NHS a little backhander for that?!) and I also have to fast. JOY.

I didn't feel unwell (although chugging the glucose drink was pretty yuck!)
Results were borderline (whatever that means!) No impact on pregnancy.
I would take care as you may feel light headed or dizzy if fasting.

I had the GTT and do have gestational diabetes. They use lucazade here, it didn't make me feel ill just very gassy.

I've had two GTTsin two pregnancies. Felt fine both times, if bloody hungry. First time pre and post test results were the same, second time they were 4 point something and 6 point something which was within their range.

First time I drank what tasted like cheap flat one, which was on, but second time it was a thick orange squash type drink which I didn't enjoy at all.

Passed both tests so no implications for pregnancy.

Had it last pregnancy. Nice drink of lucizade and a sit down. Felt absolutely fine and it came back normal.

I had GTT once with DC2 and twice with DC3.

I hate Lucozade and that was the most disgusting thing, especially the third time when it was warm!

First pregnancy: GTT post reading 10+ on insulin straightaway. Diet adapted to remove sweets/lots of carbs, didn't put any Weight on third tri. Csection for breech at 38+6 (they deliver you by 39wks due to associated risks of big baby delivery but also as the placenta gets weakened with the extra sugars so a 39w cord is like a 42w one) my baby was 7.13lbs.

Second/current pregnancy: insulin from 14weeks, diet adapted throughout. Current weight gain for total pregnancy 11lbs, we'll see what baby weighs later this week!

I had the GTT, no gestational diabetes just a fucking humongous baby

It was fine and I hate needles. Bloody boring sitting around the antenatal waiting room for hours with no TV, no phone signal and a sweaty chair though.

Sorry to answer your question, I didn't feel ill at all from the drink! I didn't find it to bad with the diet or insulin, but I'm fine with needles.

Thanks all, this is really interesting.

Glad to see the general consensus is that it doesn't make you feel too ill, and those who did have to adapt as a result of the test thanks for sharing that.

My results were just under so technically don't have it but baby is now measuring big so who knows...

Bring a sandwich for after though - something protein and carb. I had a cheese sandwich and nuts!

No worries with gtt, mine was negative but I still ended up on insulin last time. This time it's had more impact on pregnancy as I've been glucose testing 4 times a day since 6 weeks and am currently seeing consultant every 2 weeks....and I don't even have diabetes this time! Just precaution, as I had it last time

I must admit, I really didn't feel great after mine - I felt very nauseous after the Lucozade (though not a fan anyway), and ended up feeling really wiped out for the rest of the day. I wouldn't plan anything very energetic for the afternoon if I were you!

My pre-Lucozade levels were fine (4 something) but my post-Lucozade levels were very close to the diagnosis point so I've been advised to cut out all added sugar and avoid high-GI foods. Fell off the wagon rather dramatically this weekend so crossing my fingers that all is ok at this week's midwife appointment...

I had GD both pregnancies. First time my GTT was with Lucozade which was ok, but my second one was with glucose powder dissolved in water and that was truly disgusting, I was nearly sick after it. Yuck!

I was diet-controlled, ate really healthily on a low GI diet. I saw a consultant twice a week and if my numbers hadn't have stayed under control I would have had to start taking Metformin. My deliveries were both induced at term but that was the only specific thing that happened relating to the GD, in all other aspects it was treated as a normal induced birth. When I was tested post pregnancy, everything was back to normal. The marvellous thing was, with DC1 I weighed the same at term as I did at my first midwife appt and I settled at about 1.5 stone lighter post birth which was an unexpected bonus!!

One thing I would say is that I remember from reading up about it on here at the time that depending on where you were in the country, your treatment and management throughout pregnancy and at birth could differ considerably. So if you do end up with GD please don't presume anything about your treatment til you've met the GD team in your area.

I had it I drank the lucazade and after 10 minutes I had to run to the toilet to be sick. I told the midwife I had been sick and brought it all back. she still made me sit for two hours she took more blood then told me I would have to come back. luckily when I came back everything was fine. I now hate lucazade with a passion lol

I've had 7 GTTs all came back negative, I also grow mahoosive babies! I declined it for this pregnancy as I thought it was bloody pointless and my midwife agreed.

they're not so bad though in themselves. its just a bit hard chugging all that lucozade on an empty stomach made me feel a bit sick if im honest.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how crazy their baby went after having the glucose drink. I didn't have GD but had the GTT and while I was waiting in between blood tests, dd was having a right old sugar rush. Felt like she was having a party in my tummy!

I did the 3 hour GTT that they do here in the US if you fail the 1 hour screening. I was worried that the glucose drink they give you would make me sick. It didn't. The blood draws, the boredom, and the crankiness at the end were worse than the stuff I had to drink. I was kind of angry when I got the results, too- my one hour result was beliw the threshold for GD for a three hour result. They could have sent me home then, but they didn't.
