Must admit i've eaten more so shouldn't be surprised but i definitely have a bump although partly food but its hard and i definitely think i'm showing earlier this time round but if i cut back and start eating healthily everyone tells me i shouldn't diet and tries to fatten me up but its not dieting its healthy eating!!

My husband brings me home chocolate everyday and turned up yesterday with a whole chocolate cake that his mother had made for me as he said i liked chocolate?!! Trying to fill my fridge with fruit and lean meat etc but have to move the cake out of the way to get to it!!

Anyone else piling on the pounds early?

Me too Lolabelle but I've been eating pretty healthily. I'm 13+3 and I've been in maternity bottoms for about 3 weeks now

Lolabelle · 14/11/2006 10:46

I'm in maternity clothes - not fully but jeans and trousers and my bum is growing nicely as well! Looked at myself naked from behind and its bad. Very, very bad.

Can you use cellulite cream when you are pregnant?!

Don't know but I don't see the point myself. Your body is making a baby, just relax and enjoy it.

Booboobedoo · 14/11/2006 12:31

Lolabelle: I put on 8lbs by 12 weeks. I was throwing up several times a day, and forcing myself to eat enough to keep going.

If you're worried about the cake, invite some friends round to eat it .

MKG · 14/11/2006 12:56

Don't worry, it's different for everyone. My first pregnancy I gained 20 pounds in the first trimester and 55 total, I did lose 30 in the first two post-partum weeks. Must have been a lot of fluid. This pregnancy I'm eating like a horse, and have only put on 3 lbs in 12 weeks. Don't worry about weight gain too much. Make sure you get some exericise, even a ten minute walk will help.

Enjoy the excuse to eat while you can, because you have all the time in world to lose it after the baby is born.

msrlmoss · 14/11/2006 13:20

Lolabelle I am 18 wks pg and during my first twelve weeks I put on so much weight because I had really bad sickness and anything healthy made me heave. I practically lived off jam butties and choccies until my sickness passed.

DH does all the cooking and spent those first twelve weeks fretting and trying to blend up veggies really finely with mashed potatoes and covering them in a rich gravy just so I could get some nutritional value!

I was really upset at first that I was putting on so much weight, but now I feel a lot more sanguine about it. I'm not as sick now so can eat healthily, and also, I've spent most of my adult life constantly dieting and battling just to keep my weight stable. Just for once in my life I want to be able to eat the naughty things that I can't normally!

I would say, enjoy it and learn to love those dimpled thighs

Lolabelle · 14/11/2006 14:57

Im up to 16 pounds and i'm 14 weeks gone ;o - i am going to try and eat a bit healthier now as it may help the spotty face problem and purple sprouting broccolli look on my butt/thighs and it will obviously be nice for the baby to get a few vitamins and minerals! As long as i don't stay at this rate i don't mind - just not ready to say goodbye to my pre-pregnancy wardrobe forever and whats more we are going on holiday in january and i don't want to scare everyone on the beach when i unveil myself!!

I put on 12lbs in first trimester both pregnancies (mostly due to being on steroids for first 12 weeks, but also due to chocolate and cake!) and then very little the second trimester: its different for everyone. I'm now almost full-term, and have put on a total of 25lbs which is fine - look like me with a big bump is all - but at 12 weeks I was panicking too!

Bet your appetite levels out, and your weight with it...bodies are good at that...

rainbowgirl · 14/11/2006 23:08

WORRY ABOUT IT AFTER THE BABY IS BORN!! you'll have plenty of time for Weightwatchers then .. there really isn't much you can do about it now anyway, i don't know about you but my eating seems actually to be beyond my control, some days i'm eating hardly anything because i still feel sick, other days a LOT without really realising it .. just go with it.. you're pg!

macneil · 15/11/2006 01:49

"had really bad sickness and anything healthy made me heave."

Yep, this happened to me, and at 36 weeks, I'm still throwing up most days. I did lose a lot of weight when the morning sickness started, but eating M&S toasted ciabatta in olive oil and breadsticks CONSTANTLY was the only way I could stop myself throwing up. I've now gained about 32 pounds, and was pretty tiny to start with, so it's a big gain. Gwyneth Paltrow says she gained 40 pounds with each pregnancy and lost 20 pounds immediately, which makes me feel a bit better, but she is 5'10" and was movie star skinny before, whereas I am 5'2" and was not movie star skinny. I don't know where the 32 pounds is being stored, though! My hips and bum are quite a bit bigger, but not that much, and everything else looks about the same size. Obviously there's that big bump sitting in front of me, but only, what, 7 pounds of that is baby!

Still... I hear breastfeeding takes the weight out of you very quickly!

msrlmoss · 15/11/2006 10:00

Macneil, sorry to hear your sickness is still carrying on after so long! Hasn't it eased up at all?

When I was sick I really got sick (excuse the pun) of people saying "ooh, what you need is ginger biccies / crystalised ginger / root ginger / ginger ale / etc, worked a treat for me". I ended up getting really cross I'm afraid; didn't they think I'd already tried everything?

Did you get that at all? Do you still get it now? What do you say to people!

Although the toasted ciabatta still sounds healthier than the Findus Crispy Pancakes I was obsessed by

Yes I heard that about breastfeeding too. Fingers crossed you'll have to let me know how it goes!

Booboobedoo · 15/11/2006 12:04

macneil - I'm just past 24 weeks, and I'm still being sick too. You just eat what you can, don't you? No point worrying about weight. In fact, I find I can't bring myself to care at the moment (and that's not like me).

Msrlmoss: I got sick of the constant folk-remedies people tried to suggest too. I know they're trying to be kind, but...

I've found that now I'm coming up to 6 months and it's still happening, people tend not to do it any more.

Daisypops · 15/11/2006 12:08

I didn't start putting weight on til about 4 months then I started piling it on. Now 32 weeks and I've put on approx 2 and a half stone. I had low blood sugar levels and was told to eat more sugar so get those cream cakes and cookies eaten ladies!

macneil · 15/11/2006 17:54

Totally! I've started eating greens again recently, just because I've accepted that nothing stops the sickness, but in the first six months it was pretty much just bread products and meat, and hoping the baby would find nutrients in whatever I'd saved up pre-pregnancy. I'm sure there are lots of healthy babies born to mums with unhealthy diets, the food you eat when you're actually ALIVE must count for more. I had an okay period in the late 20s weeks, fingers crossed that yours eases soon.

MumtoBen · 15/11/2006 21:02

I didn't put on any weight 1st time round in the first trimester and nothing as yet this time (9 weeks). Appetite completely gone, but no ms. People do say you show earlier 2nd time round.

I just wanted to reassure you I put on 26lbs in the 1st pregnancy and lost 28 in the first 3 weeks, most of it in the first 2 weeks. No dieting or exercise involved (could barely walk actually!). Hoping for the same this time round.

lorie · 15/11/2006 21:08

I've not even got on the scales. I've not been stuffing myself but have eaten whatever I have wanted! Don't worry about it ladies!

Lolabelle · 15/11/2006 21:09

I know i shouldn't care, i know i should sod it and stuff my face but i look so hideous!! Reckon winter has a lot to do with it as well though as i need to pamper myself and find a safe fake tan and a few nice maternity clothes as baggy tracksuit bottoms and mens jeans aren't doing me any favours!!

I love fashion normally and am feeling like a bloated slob so maybe i need to embrace my new size - bum included - and find my inner glow!!

OP posts:
rainbowgirl · 15/11/2006 22:40

i put on almost 4 stone with dd (gulp) but i was tiny when i got pg. i did lose almost all of it in the end but it took a while! imho the breastfeeding thing is a myth, my breasts were so enormous till i stopped breastfeeding, when i did, i lost about 1/2 a stone instantly

this time round i guess i'm eating less but only because i've had bad ms so less appetite..

yes embrace your new shape lolabelle!

i was watching trinny and susannah last night they had a thing about dressing for your bump, they said wear stuff under it, basically, and not too clingy on your bum.. i desperately need some trousers that look ok from behind, but at least i'm blissfully unaware of how i look from the back!

macneil · 15/11/2006 22:47

I've found ALL maternity bottoms are really clingy on my bum, they're like those jersey trousers, and stretch skirts, and stretch jeans, and things I would never have worn pre-preg because of my massive saddle bag thighs. I always wore A line - proper A line, not stretch denim A line pretending to be A line like maternity shops sell - and non-stretchy jeans. And now my arse is massive it looks double bad. If I can ever be bothered, I'm going to start up a business making maternity clothes that have stretch waistbands but non-stretch arse coverage.

I really miss clothes shopping for things that make me look pretty, rather than things that cover the new bit of skin that's started to pop out. And I spent my whole life learning to dress a figure that was only thin at the waist, and now I understand that with a c-section you don't get your waist back for AGES because you can't use your stomach muscles.

yomellamoHelly · 15/11/2006 23:02

Put on a total 3 stone with ds (mostly in 2nd trimester) and lost 1/2 stone on giving birth. (Have put on 2 stone this time - currently 35 weeks.)
The rest, though, hung around until I stopped bfing and then fell off me over about 2 weeks. Felt I ended up looking slimmer than before because my body shape changed after, so not all bad.
Have a few friends who had same weightloss experience so would query the myth about bf helping you get your shape back (was contiuously starving whilst bfing and ate loads more as a consequence). So not expecting any miracle weightloss 'til db2 weaned!

micra · 16/11/2006 13:02

Yes, with both pregnancies I put loads on in first 3 months when all the books say you don't -didnt' show at all with first, showed a bit with 2nd! Then wnet thru phase where should've started piling weight on but didn't - esp with first. Then just steady. Put 2.5 - 3 stone on with each. lost it reasonably quickly, esp with first, down to less than was originally - but put it back on once started eating and sleeping again!

twickersmum · 16/11/2006 13:32

with dd2, i had put on a stone by 14 weeks and then only another 1/2 stone right to the end. my tummy just grew and grew but the scales stayed quite still - strange...

peacemakerukuk · 16/11/2006 14:21

I am only 14 weeks but have a big tummy already and I have to say, its only when I'm pregnant I can relax about my weight. My DH absolutely loves what he calls my "mummy tummy" and is always rubbing or patting it

tb · 16/11/2006 14:29

I actually lost a stone and a half while pregnant - but when my daughter weaned herself just before she was 2 my thyroid packed up and I put on 6 stone before I could get any treatment!! With hindsight I wish I had put on some weight and not had the thyroid problem!!
