When would you have a Babymoon?

We're considering a few nights away (in the UK) before baby is born and wondered when others did or would do this? Is 36-37 weeks too late?

37 weeks is too near the delivery date, it's a lovely idea tho I'd organise something for a few weeks earlier.

I like the idea but I'd be worried about being too far from home. Also I'm only 25 weeks but already really uncomfortable - I don't think I'd really enjoy a short break in the way I usually would.

Thanks everyone, thought that might be the case, looking at our work dates we could do it at around 37 weeks or 24 weeks so maybe 24 is better! X

I thought a baby moon was when you take to your bed following the birth and do bugger all except feed , sleep and cuddle for a few weeks

If it's a long weekend locally 37 weeks is fine, I would have loved that.
As someone who was late with every baby, 41 weeks, 40.5 weeks, 42 weeks and whose partner was away at 37 weeks, the timing would not bother me.
But that said I would rather do something expensive on the doorstep than travel anywhere .
24 weeks if you are still wanting to dtd, unless that was part of the plan later to bring on labour.
Had only used theword babymoon for spending a week/fortnight in bed with newborns cosleeping/breastfeeding until milk in /latch fine/over the birth: can heartily vouch for that. Good luck

Yes. The term babymoon seems to have been hijacked to sell mini breaks since the meaning it had with DD1.

Oh lol maybe I'm confused with what a Babymoon is! Hehe should have called it minibreak. It would be local eg within an hour of where we live, just thought breakfast in bed, swimming, spa etc might be nice x

Yy to doing things together before baby gets here that will be harder once you have dc.

24 weeks much better idea than 37 because if baby early you'd lose out plus at 37 weeks you'll probably be really uncomfortable and not up to doing much.

Where you go at 24 weeks depends on how much travelling you prepared to do. I went to turkey at 26 weeks. I was in some serious discomfort because my neck froze and I couldn't take ibuprofen. I also had SPD and actually found the long break off my feet did it the world of good.

The problem with a spa at 37 weeks (even if local) is that you are just so big and everything is so awkward.

So, breakfast in bed is lovely in theory. In reality, you often can't sit/lie in a very comfortable position and need to get up and walk around after waking up.

A massage is lovely in theory, but by the time you have a massive bump, the lying/leaning positions often aren't marvellously comfortable.

I'd definitely go second trimester.

It has become a recognised meaning of babymoon OP. I just prefer the old (non commercial) one

I would go for around 15 weeks personally! When (in theory) the morning sickness has stopped but other problems like SPD haven't really kicked in yet. Either way, enjoy it! We had a lovely holiday just before I got pregnant and we still look back on that baby-free time fondly

Yeah I'm not the best at travelling abroad at the best of time as terrified of flying so thought a few nights in Cornwall/devon/Bath would be good. Until a few weeks ago i felt so rough I didn't think I would ever want to but morning sickness seems to have vanished!

Definitely but don't leave it too late. We never made our trip to Harrogate that was booked for 36+2 as baby came unexpectedly early at 35+5. We enjoyed our break to Berlin when I was around 23 weeks though

Thanks so much everyone, Penguin made me giggle! I've got such a romantic idea haven't i?! I will be a whale by then! I will book it for mid 20 weeks xx

Ps our last minibreak was how we ended up expecting in the first place!

I was also confused by the thread title, as afaik baby moon is the hunkering down together just after the baby is born, binding as a family and whatnot!

When I was looking at pregnancy spas last pregnancy they wouldn't take me past 35 weeks - double check before booking.

I'm going to a mummy and little me pregnancy retreat at a champneus spa at six and a half months pregnant - they do pamper pregnancy babymoon :-)

Agree, term used extensively by the active birth movement from 1970s onwards.

I was very confused by thread title, as only possible destination for a real babymoon is home.

We are away right now in Spain at 15 weeks for me :) its been lovely, been swimming and sunbathing. Got a short bout of tummy bug but that disappeared ?? will go for another short getaway in Cornwall after the 20 week scan.
