We're considering a few nights away (in the UK) before baby is born and wondered when others did or would do this? Is 36-37 weeks too late?

I'm planning on going away for a long weekend around 33-37 weeks but we are going to book last minute (a few days before) and only go to the coast a couple of hours drive away.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 10/05/2015 18:41

Luna - I would go early in that window rather than later if possible Smile. The 'oh my god sitting in the car is torture' phase can creep on you quite suddenly if you are one who is afflicted!

bigchangesabound · 10/05/2015 18:51

We are going away at the end of next week to Greece for a week- me at 20 weeks. Just thinking of it as our last holiday together. (also treated ourselves to Business Class as it may be a long time before the next one!).

whizzy1980 · 10/05/2015 19:05

We went for a long weekend in Brussels when I was 35 weeks, it was our first wedding anniversary and we wanted to celebrate. Did Eurostar rather than a plane. But going away fairly doesn't have to be a big deal. Go and have fun!

Skiptonlass · 10/05/2015 19:07

We are having one at about 23-25 as it coincides with us having to attend an event somewhere nice. We've just extended the weekend either side and booked into a nice hotel.

I saw it as a chance to go away before I get to the stage I'm so big I have my own gravity field...

Bath would be lovely, ladypug! I've not visited the spa there but it looks fabulous online. :)

Lunastarfish · 10/05/2015 20:30

Penguin - I agree! I have put a 2 hour driving limit on anywhere we go but we're in Surrey so most of the south-east coast is doable in that time.

Ladypug · 10/05/2015 21:06

Hi Focus,

Where in Cornwall are you looking? We're looking anywhere in the South West so open to recommendations! x

Second trimester! You are usually very uncomfortable in third trimester, especially that close to your due date.

Emz1989 · 12/05/2015 03:28

Dh and I went to dublin for a few days of sightseeing/relaxing over easter, which for me was at 29 weeks - I thoroughly enjoyed our time away but felt like I'd totally overdone it for a week or 2 when I got home, which defeated the object entirely!!!
I definitely think waiting until third trimester is crazy - earlier the better!

And for what it's worth... When we went away a few people referred to if as a 'babymoon', so it's obviously a term that has a varied meaning nowadays! (Although I have every intention of being on lockdown for a week or 2 post-delivery too, so will call that babymoon part 2!!!) x

We had a great two-night break before first DC when I was 36 weeks. We went to a town that was local enough to our chosen hospital but where I had never been before. It had lots of lovely restaurants and a castle - I have amazing memories of being together with DH, eating out and talking about names etc. We took the hospital bag in the back of the car.

The owner of the B&B took one look at me and asked if we'd "leave a note if you have to rush off in the night". I know it's not for everybody but it was lovely for us - you could always keep the time free in your diaries and get something last minute if you feel like it.

NobodyPutsMyBabyInTheCorner · 12/05/2015 10:26

So I've totally fucked up and booked 3 nights to the Lake District at 31 weeks for DH's Birthday.

Can I climb peaks at this point? wails

Hi Ladypug

We are going for a babymoon to Majorca for 5 nights when I am 22 weeks and the midwife confirmed that was fine :)

We thought it would be nice to get away just the two of us as it will be the last time for a while. I am quite big already but I am not worried as I plant o do alot of sitting under a parasol drinking cold drinks and reading!

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 12/05/2015 16:19

I had a lovely few days in a spa with my mum (DH was in Australia for a week) at 24 weeks - certainly far along enough to appreciate pregnancy treatments but not so far along that I was uncomfortable. I would definitely recommend it!

I have a week in the South of France booked for 29 to 30 weeks that I think should be fine but am a little bit nervous about! I am not planning on doing anything after that!

hestialou · 12/05/2015 18:57

We went at 20 weeks, as too ill before hand. Don't go anywhere to hot, walking around in 32 degree heat exhausted me.

birchwoods · 12/05/2015 20:44

I've just got back from a short break (five nights) in the south of France and I will be 28 weeks on Saturday. It was bliss!

cavamonster · 13/05/2015 05:07

I'm just back from a week in Italy at 23 weeks, it was lovely - I felt more awake than I have done and was able to walk and travel about really easily.

We have another week off at 32 weeks when im hoping to book a break around an hours drive away from home but will leave till last minute and see how I feel.

Hope you get something lovely booked, our break felt really special as we enjoyed it just being the two of us whilst being able to relax and get excited about baby coming!

icklekid · 13/05/2015 05:20

We went to Cornwall and even though I was still sick daily (with medication )I am really glad we went. Was lovely to have a final holiday just dh and I and we had a great time. We went in May and I was due start of July definitely no later!

Shantotto · 13/05/2015 11:05

We've left it quite late to go somewhere, we weren't that bothered but seem to be giving in to the peer pressure of 'OMG you must go away by yourselves before your lives are RUINED' type chat.

Due to DO's work being awkward, I'll be 30 weeks when we can get away in early June. Just planning on a few days in Bruges, so a few hours on Eurostar from us. Should be fine. Hopefully...

Ladypug · 13/05/2015 18:50

Hi ickle

Where in Cornwall did you go? We want to stay in the UK preferably

I have a third definition of baby moon. I always thought of it as the last 'wild' coupley holiday before you tried to get pregnant. I had a few over the years......

batfish · 13/05/2015 20:42

We are going on holiday to Seychelles when I will be 30 weeks (dr's note permitting) - it is only 4.5 hour flight from where I live so hopefully will be fine!

AmberLav · 14/05/2015 14:29

We went to a hotel about an hour away from home at about 7 months, for 2 nights leaving DS with the GPs. It was a spa hotel with a nice big pool with an outdoor pool bit that was bracing (it was February!) and i could do a manicure and pedicure as treatments, which I was happy with... I'm generally not fussed about massages and saunas etc...

I've heard the term Babymoon as the last break before baby arrives...

Ladypug · 14/05/2015 19:02

These all sound lovely :-)
