CRAVING wine!

Not fancying it - craving it! Didn't have this last preg, wasn't fussed either way and never touched a drop. Not fussed in normal life either - have an average a few units a month - sometimes more, sometimes nothing at all. But now I'm pregnant (12 weeks) I'm thinking about it all the time! Had to get rid of household supplies as temptation was crazy!

Anybody else had this? Is there anything in the idea you crave what you need? NOT suggesting baby needs booze, but maybe it's something in the grapes or something I'm after ponders whether grapes would hit the spot - NO!

I found I really missed the social habit of drinking at the beginning and fooling myself with substitutes helped a bit. I'd recommend shloer served in a wine glass. With the White and bubbly ones, you can almost think you're drinking!

FeelTheNoise · 18/04/2015 23:39

Today I've been gagging for wine Shock it must be sunshine related Grin

DoNotDenyMe · 19/04/2015 00:16

I love a glass of wine... but not a red drinker. However this pregnancy (18wks) and last, I really fancied red wine. I told myself there must be something good in it that my body needed so treated/treat myself to a small one every now and again. Wink

crazycatlady82 · 19/04/2015 07:17

Oh me too!!!!

So so so desperate for a glass of wine. I was a total wino prior to being pregnant so it's not completely out of the blue.

I had 6 sips on holiday. I am allowing myself champagne for my anniversary and for the toast when my friend gets married. I am dreaming about those.

I sniff my husband's wine.

I can spend an hour googling wine and champagne varieties, vintages etc.

I have a problem Confused haha!!!

sizethree · 19/04/2015 08:48

I miss it greatly. I requested Appletise served in a wine glass when out for lunch yesterday.
I'm up in Edinburgh and at my booking appointment my MW drummed in that the recommended amount of alcohol in pregnancy in Scotland is a big fat zero.
So no matter how much I'm desperate for those sips (anniversary in2 weeks - aaaargh) I've just got to stay away. Only for another 6 months.

comeagainforbigfudge · 19/04/2015 08:54

Not wine, but with the sunshine I really want a cider, a fruity one. With ice

Or a lager shandy

Or a cocktail.

Never mind. Baby due in 8 weeks. I'll survive I'm sure......

HippyPottyMouth · 19/04/2015 08:59

Comeagain, the alcohol free fruity ciders are quite convincing. I think it's Kopparberg. They gave me terrible heartburn when pregnant but at the time it was worth it.

hestialou · 19/04/2015 08:59

Haven't drunk lager since a 20 and now fancy a shandy! Blame it on the hot weather.

InTheory · 19/04/2015 09:01

Oh I could really go a gin at the moment! 23 weeks so still ages to go till I can have one. I think it's the sunshine and the fact we have a few family celebrations happening just now!

comeagainforbigfudge · 19/04/2015 09:02

Ooh thanks hippy. Might go investigate them later today!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 19/04/2015 10:12

Gin. It near killed me to walk past the booze aisle on holiday this year where I'd usually pick up a bottle for half the price it is in the uk and take it back with me Confused

fackinell · 19/04/2015 10:51

Becks blue is nice. Pretty convincing too. Don't waste money on the alcohol removed wines, they're shite.

crazycatlady82 · 19/04/2015 10:51

Sizethree, I'm up north too (well Glasgow). And must be due the same time as I also have 6 months to go!

My midwife didn't say anything but dh and I did say I had completely drinking since finding out.

I was seeing my Mum and friend I'm Edinburgh yesterday and it was a beautiful day.

Not to high jack but... Is anyone else a little annoyed that their partner is still drinking?

DHs friend told him 'use every opportunity to drink now as it will be a thing of the past once the baby comes'. Advice he has taken quite literally! 2-3 ciders every night! I know it's not much but still...

Grr!!!

Pigriver · 19/04/2015 11:04

I craved wine for about 2 months non stop. I went on a night out and was dreading not being able to drink. Luckily my friend was drinking wine and it smelled VILE to me. Put me right off!
I have since had a few non alcoholic koppabergs that really hit the spot.

Charitygirl1 · 19/04/2015 11:12

Having never been a white wine drinker I craved it (and champagne) during both pregnancies. Also tomatoes - so I think I was after acidic tastes.

I would have a glass or two every week or so - so enjoyable!

Charitygirl1 · 19/04/2015 11:13

Oh, and I'd water down a glass with sparking water so I could have two!

DoNotDenyMe · 19/04/2015 11:23

crazycat, my dh made a deal with me during first pregnancy that he wouldn't drink in the house... only if we went out with others.
This time, he's not been as good...but still ok. He's only drinking in the house when I'm working late (10pm) and if we have guests over.
Think the stress of looking after dd made him rethink things Wink

Chickenfillets · 19/04/2015 20:29

I had a few sniffs of my dps dark fruits cider yesterday Grin sun was shining and I really fancied one. The sniffs just made me want one even more, but stuck to my bottle of water. 3 weeks to go and I cannot wait for a big glass of wine.

comeagainforbigfudge · 19/04/2015 20:37

I'm currently drinking a non-alcoholic mojito. It's not too bad needs rum tastes like a fruit pastille Grin

WilsonWilsonWoman · 19/04/2015 20:56

For beer fans, Erdinger alkoholfrei lager is a fantastic substitute and advertises itself as a low calorie isotonic drink with added folic acid and b vitamins! It's lovely and good for you! Grin

MummyPiggy87 · 19/04/2015 21:04

Sorry to hijack post, but is it okay to have a shandy? If I made my own with my dh's bud very weak? I have been craving it so badly this entire week. I don't normally drink! Or is any alcohol very bad??

Ragwort · 19/04/2015 21:17

Have a glass of wine/shandy if you want one.

A couple of alcoholic drinks a week is NOT going to harm your baby. The 'rules' are to avoid binge/excessive drinking, not the odd glass with dinner at the weekend.

I drank regularly during my pregnancy - no side effects. Smile

MummyPiggy I generally agree that a single drink isn't going to matter, however Becks Blue is alcohol free and very pleasant, esp with lemonade :)

willnotbetamed · 20/04/2015 16:01

I've never craved alcohol especially (I allow myself a glass of wine every now and then), but with DS2 I was really keen on anything with vinegar in. So salad dressings, sauerkraut (we live in Germany, thankfully, so plenty of that around), red cabbage in vinegar, pickled gherkins, etc. Could it be that that you're craving? I would definitely let yourself drink the odd glass of wine, but see whether any of the other vinegary things helps with the craving... Grin Wine
