CRAVING wine!

Not fancying it - craving it! Didn't have this last preg, wasn't fussed either way and never touched a drop. Not fussed in normal life either - have an average a few units a month - sometimes more, sometimes nothing at all. But now I'm pregnant (12 weeks) I'm thinking about it all the time! Had to get rid of household supplies as temptation was crazy!

Anybody else had this? Is there anything in the idea you crave what you need? NOT suggesting baby needs booze, but maybe it's something in the grapes or something I'm after ponders whether grapes would hit the spot - NO!

I've been fancying wine but not caved in. Shloer with ice has been my substitute

MummyPiggy87 · 21/04/2015 00:32

Haven't heard of that, is this UK? I will have a look. Thank you x

MummyPiggy87 · 21/04/2015 00:33

Sorry that message was referring to becksblue drink, I've heard of shloerGrin

I had one glass of chardonnay every Friday after work when I was pregnant, it was wonderful. I really don't think that's going to do any harm to anyone.

Thanks to the wonderfulness of mn, I found the "alcohol free" section in my local tesco (never occurred to me to check) and I now have TWO ciders chilling in fridge. Will do my wee chores then sit out with a good book and a cider

Strawberry and lime, do you think that can count towards my 5 a day? Grin

MrsD14 · 21/04/2015 19:48

I was looking for alcohol free bubbly for our anniversary (I know one glass of something real would be fine, but I irrationally worry and DH barely drinks so we'd waste a bottle!) I found this website - www.alcoholfree.co.uk - which looked interesting! Might try something sparkly!

brokencrayons · 21/04/2015 21:03

Scotland has a strict no drinking any amount of booze when pregnant, it's not bothering me though as it actually makes me want to puke! I used to love my wine sooo much too.

MrsD14 · 23/04/2015 06:06

We're Scotland too but my sister (in England) had the same advice from her MW so maybe it's more general advice?

pearpotter · 23/04/2015 06:16

Just have some wine. Chances are one glass will be enough to satisfy the craving. I had the odd glass of wine throught pregnancy with DD1, only ever one glass at a time, no more than one in a week and never felt like more. With DD2 I didn't feel like it so much and had even less.

Floppityflop · 23/04/2015 06:45

Erdinger alkoholfrei is the best, also Becks blue not bad either. TBH I can barely taste the difference between Erdinger alkoholfrei and the normal one.

eleanoralice11 · 23/04/2015 06:48

All I've wanted since day dot (I'm 14wks) is a glass of red! My partner drinks it and I'm always having a sniff!

iwantgin · 23/04/2015 06:54

Have a small glass then. The more you deny yourself of it the worse the craving.

A small measure in a nice glass with dinner will make you feel far less deprived.

I agree with you Sweet - people really need to use common sense, a small glass of wine or two occasionally is not going to harm your baby - all this stressing and worrying about it is much more likely to Grin.

KCOZ · 23/04/2015 10:55

Drink the wine! Don't get hammered, but if you feel like it, go ahead. And Google Emily Oster if you want a sensible analysis of the data so you can form your own risk assessment.

I LOVE wine, ice cold pinot! Could drink buckets full before I started IVf in November and am now pregnant.

I have not touched a drop of white but after my 12 weeks I did have a glass of red (not as good as my lovely white but still hits the spot). We went out on Saturday night for a friends 40th birthday meal and I allowed myself 2 small red wines over the course of the evening all washed down with lots of mineral water.

Surprisingly I have not missed it as much as I thought I would BUT if I am going out or really fancy it one night after work in the week I will follow the guidelines of 1-2 units once or twice a week.

I do not think there is anything wrong with that and at the end of the day the decision is down to us no one else.

crazycatlady82 · 24/04/2015 10:05

Omg!!! So, so, so excited!!!

I am off to a very nice hotel for the night and am allowing myself (at 15 weeks) my first glass of wine!!!

The question is...

Do I have a glass of champagne as an aperitif or a glass of Viognier with dinner?

Decisions decisions...

anroga · 24/04/2015 10:50

VIOGNIER WITH DINNER!!!!

crazycatlady82 · 24/04/2015 20:54

LIKE!!! Wine

lauraam2001 · 24/04/2015 21:37

A Mojito or frozen margarita in a beer garden in Glasgow would be amazing, but sadly, September seems like forever away :'( Bizarrely, before being preggers, I barely drank,.
