How much were your 12 wk scan pics?

Firstly I know point of scan is to check safety of baby
My local hospital has just gone from £2 pic to baby TV receipt unit charging 2 for £10 or 4 for £18!! Given it a but of a thing offered in stunned at this increase
Combined with extortionate parking charges and travel to hospital it actually makes the private scan at £40 very good value- 4 photos, free parking, 30 minute session, and at time to suit/ evenings weekends etc
The staff were handing out complaint forms and encouraging comments yet were disgusted at the charge and the amount of people who couldn't have one now Hmm
I'm disappointed especially as the cash doesn't even go into the same unit or hospital
I can afford it but many can't, seems so wrong

That is really really bad.

Ours are free, they suggest a donation of £1 or so and most people put in a bit more but not everybody can.

Definitely complain!

Ems1812 · 08/04/2015 09:41

Mine were £7 & I got about 5 pictures. Then with my 20 week scan I was charged the same & got 10 or 12 pictures. That is an awful lot of money at your hospital! I resented paying at all tbh, I can afford it but I know others that can't & havent been able to keep their pictures or have had to borrow money from a relative which seems awfully unfair.

Superexcited · 08/04/2015 09:43

Ours are £2 apparently. I don't know if that is per picture or more than one, I will find out today when I go for my scan. I don't mind paying £2 per pic as obviously there are costs involved in the printing but £18 for 4 is daylight robbery.

WinterBabyof89 · 08/04/2015 09:51

Ours were £4 per picture.. It's a shame because for those living on a tight budget it can make pictures a luxury.. £2 is more achievable for the masses and IMO it should be a flat rate across the board (never going to happen thought sadly)..

maccie · 08/04/2015 09:52

Ours are £3 per picture. You are asked in the scan room if you want a picture of the baby, pictures are taken and then as you leave the room you are told to purchase the correct amount of stamps from a machine on the wall, then you have to take them to a receptionist who prints the pictures and takes your stamps.

quesadillas · 08/04/2015 09:53

£3 for one. They didn't charge double for twins.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/04/2015 09:56

Oddly they were £2 with DS1 6 years ago and free with DS2 last year. Same hospital.

PazRaz1975 · 08/04/2015 09:57

£5 for a selection of about 6/8 piccies - depending on the sonographer and the clarity of the pics!

FernGullysWoollyPully · 08/04/2015 09:58

£5 for 1.

We did get 4 from our 12 week scan but only paid for 1. The sonographer was so lovely and because the baby was really wriggly she gave us spares!

maccie · 08/04/2015 09:59

And I swear the receptionist must be on commission as the fuss she made and the way she raised her voice unnecessarily when I said that no I didn't want pictures this time. She was quite insistent it was only £3 if I just wanted one.

I was there for a very late pregnancy scan sent down unexpectedly from another dept because of concerns for my baby's health. I did not need berating for the lack of available pound coins for bloody stamps.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 08/04/2015 10:00

£2 when I was in London last year, and £5 in Hertfordshire this year. I did get them free at my 20 week scan as they found a problem (although DS is here and fine now) so I think I got them for free as some sort of losers prize!

DoctorDonnaNoble · 08/04/2015 10:04

We got ours free as they couldn't get a decent picture. Was nice of the sonographer. Which seems to suggest with the experience of others that sonographers don't approve if the charges.

MsRyanGosling · 08/04/2015 10:08

£5 each - West Yorkshire

Sometimes given more than one - depending on sonographer but not more than three.

GoooRooo · 08/04/2015 10:08

£5 each.

Gillian1980 · 08/04/2015 10:12

£5 each at our hospital.
At the 12 week scan though they let us have one for free as a thank you for letting a trainee sonographer do the scan (under full supervision).
We have got one each time as it's such a special thing but as you say, with petrol and rip off parking it really starts to add up.

sianihedgehog · 08/04/2015 10:18

£4 or £5 for one. However, at both scans the sonographer said "oops, I wasn't paying attention, so have three". I'm not too bothered by the charge, I'm happy to have some money go into public health services, and photos do strike me as a luxury. I might feel differently if they were a tenner, mind!

butterfly86 · 08/04/2015 10:31

Our 12 week ones were free and 20 week ones were £2 but we only had to pay for 1 and were given 3 or 4. Had lots of growth scan and never had to pay for those pics.

Justyouwaitandsee · 08/04/2015 10:33

Ours were £5 each or 3 for £10 at both the 12 and 20 week scan...

Choccyhobnob · 08/04/2015 11:16

Ours were £7 for 2 or £13 for 4. I didn't really mind paying but it's amazing the difference in prices across the country! Our hospital does do the harmony test for free though so saved £500 there though..... Hmm

Lego80 · 08/04/2015 11:20

£10 each!!! But the sonographer kindly gave us 3 on the sly

frangipani13 · 08/04/2015 12:50

We paid £10 for three in Cambridge. .. again happy to pay if the money is going back in to the NHS.

Rikalaily · 08/04/2015 12:54

Free, as were the 20 week pics. The local hospital charge (not sure how much) but I'm with one to one midwives who have their own scanning place.

CoodleMoodle · 08/04/2015 12:59

Our hospital asked for a donation. I think we put about £3 in the box, it was all we had on us but they said that was fine. Then we had another scan and did the same.

Chips1999 · 08/04/2015 13:02

Ours was £5 for one photo.

Fanby · 08/04/2015 13:03

£1.50 per photo at Kings in London, you have to buy tokens from the receptionist prior to going to in. We bought 4 but the sonographer kindly gave us 6 as baby wasn't that cooperative at the 12 week scan
